I made one of these books because I don't have a lot of room for bigger storage anymore in my craft area so I found this to be so cute and way useful with all the assortment of things you can add to it! I have all my washi tapes both purchased and made in it and a ton of ribbons and trims and even some paper strips. I keep the bulk of the items stored in my attic and when my book runs out I can go up and get some more to put in it! Great idea! So glad you did this video!!
Jennibellie...I just wanted to let you know that I think this is brilliant. I've been wanting a quick and simple way to use boxes pitched in the recycling bin and you've come up with my solution! thank you for posting this viddy!
I absolutely adore all of your videos and I LOVE your accent! You are an amazing artist and I am very inspired by what you do! Please keep up all the great work!
Wow Jennie, another fabulous video, so easy to follow and inspirational. Can see lots of uses for this and maybe a way to tidy up that big box of very untidy ribbons and lace I have. Thanks xx
Bookbinding always seemed to be so difficult and 'insider-like' and you make it look like a very fun and easy thing to do! I have actually almost finished my version of this booklet, but I wonder if the middle signature shouldn't be stuck into INSIDE FIRST and not the other way around. Also: I think this would be a wonderfull math project. Would raise lots of questions and puzzling, but in the end, no one would lose. Thanks for making seemingly heavy things so much more easy.
Oh my gosh, I need to make one, I'm only just starting with Washi (yes, last person on the planet as per usual) and I bought a set on all these little wooden reels, super cute, but pain the rear to store... so.... DA DA! I needz to make one of these super cute little books! TY so much again, always you blow me away - happy holiday too and cannot wait to see the washi tape tut!
Saw a video where someone pulled tape out of a book like this and I was distracted from the video! The creator was kind enough to tell me about this video. Love these washi books.
so the wax paper keeps the washi tape sticky? I guess all my washi tape is in rolls already so not sure if I would you this idea for washi tape but definitely for fibers and ribbons. Great video!
Thank you for the great video. I will definitely try making one of these. I am always looking for more storage ideas and this one is excellent! I love the fact that I can use these cereal boxes that I keep hoarding (so I can eventually use them for my crafting of course... lol).
Just found you. I'm a late bloomer and love, love your talent. Love the make the book from a box idea. Simplifies having to much "stuff" around. ... chipboard and the like. Thanks tons for sharing. ~~~Joyce
lol thanks Barbi, glad you liked it =) I'm not a hoarder either, just someone who sees the potential in probably too many things lol thanks for watching x
Wow Jennibellie - think how many migraines could be recycled as these beautiful little books lol! I love this project! I simply must stop throwing things away... Love your Washi tapes too. Really pretty! Thanks for sharing this gorgeous project. Shoshi
I love this book and have spent the evening making one (did not know what washi tape was before today either!) - it occured to me that rather than using waxpaper (that i did not have) and glue that using double sided tape and not removing the backing would work - it seems ok so far - also as i only had paper gold adhesive photo corners I decided to glue them on before sticking in the front papers - this covered more of the ugly self adhesive black back. love love love your tutorials x thank you
Hi arizonahippiechic, yeah I'm space-ally challenged too so have to be craft about my solutions, so glad you enjoyed the video & made a book =) much love xxx
Okay, this is starting to get weird. I just made tape using the wrapping paper from the zine I rec'd today. You are becoming supernatural. ☺Thanks for the tip...can't wait to make this. Enjoy your vacation! Adriann
really nicely done! you do beautiful workmanship. Thanks for the inspirations - I have several videos downloaded to RealPlayer and in my Evernote for when I have no internet.. Great stuff you do here. Keep up the great works of love :)
Jennie- your books are so beautiful. Your colors and materials go together so well- and are uniquely you. I have problems with bubbles under the papers and bowed pages even after using a bone folder. What is your secret for keeping your pages so flat? do you weigh them?
What a lovely idea! I've made a slightly different holder for my washi tapes (which I posted a video tutorial for on my channel) but I think I'm going to make one of these to keep my ribbon in - I've got loads of short pieces currently stuffed in a box, and this would be a perfect way of displaying them so I can see them all :)
hiya, thank you :) the by definition of the tape it shouldn't lift off as masking tape is designed not to remove anything underneath it & it's never removed any of mine but I think it also helps buying a tape with a porous (non-waxy I call it in the video) surface tape - that way the paint sinks into the surface of the tape, rather than sits upon it, therefore it's there for good. Hope that helps :) x
Hi cknlittle1, no I don't weight them but they are quite think papers so that may help. I also think using two kinds of glue helps - the wet glue seems to act as a 'moveable' agent to the dry glue - which once sets has a permanent effect. Also I cover every single mm of the paper with glue, I've always been a bit ott with glue but I really think it means there is no room for bubbles to form. Hope I've helped :) xx
Okay...I will never come out of my scraproom again! Just send food, water, soap, and a bucket! LOL Enjoy your vacation....I'll be pretty busy while you are gone! Tfs Hugs and much love~Lisa
Great video, well done! You make things look so easy. How long did it take you to make this little booklet? if you don't mind me asking? I love things made out of recylcled cardboard. I keep most of my boxes & anything else I think may come in handy for this same reason. Keep up the great work Jennibellie. *(ha ha I'm Jenn & my darling puppy is Belle)* close, well almost
Hi Joyce, thanks so much =) I'm afraid it's a double-edged sword - when you see everything as something you can make something out of you tend to collect more and more stuff lol so I wish I could say it's limits what you have around but unless you use it promptly you end up building quite a collection haha which is both a blessing and not sometimes. Thanks for watching, much love xx
What a brilliant tutorial, just found you and love your videos, pls can you tell me what you did with the metal corners was that a edger tool you used on them? Thanks so much.
How do you keep the tape from lifting off the paint on itself as you peel it? Do you seal it with something? By the way.....amazing videos....you are so talented.
^Thank you very much for this tutorial! I really like the idea that you can still add more signatures to the book if needed, even after finishing the book, as long as it fits in - it's an evolutive book! :)
Your tape and book are broth brilliant. I do have a question. You used watercolor to make some of your tapes. Doesn't that smear? Or come up when you remove the layer of tape over it? Thanks!
Hi it depends what kind of paint and tape you have usually they are compatible but if you get a tape that has a waxy surface to it then yes the paint will come off, but I haven't had any smearing so far. Thanks for watching happy new year to you =D
I'd test it with tape before putting it in the book ie see if it comes off easy enough if so then yeah should work fine. What about greaseproof paper that's used for baking? They should have that in supermarkets & should work as well =) thanks for watching x
lol @ you and your pups name, very cute =D I can't remember exactly how long it took to be honest it was quite a while ago now that I made them, I think may be an hour? It takes longer than a normal book because of the cutting and prepping of the papers with wax paper but I'd guestimate an hour or so, hope that helps =D
Love your tutorials, your an amazing artist! Are you selling these washi tape storage books??? If so I would love to buy a couple (with your homemade washi tape or without) .. If your willing to sell let me know just PM me..thanks!
Hi, I'm not quite sure where you live, I'm in the UK, I know it doesn't always go what your accent is being where you live, I'm a Scot living in Essex, England. Reason I've said this is I want to ask where do you get your waxed paper, and the photo corners, they are metal aren't they and are they easy to put on, I'd like to use these on a few books I have. Huggles xxxAnnxxx
I live in the US and I'm not familiar with a waxed paper that is only waxed on one side. We have wax paper, but it';s waxy on both sides. Wonder if that would work ... might have to tape down rather than glue it. Not sure. +Ann Littler (wife of Scrooge McMeany)
We have photo corners here in the states that are made of a paper material. I've never seen metal ones, though. We have waxed paper that is waxed on both sides and also a "parchment" paper that is used for baking, among other things. Parchment paper isn't waxed, but prevents cookies, for example, from sticking to a cookie sheet.

This is fabulous!!!! You'd never know by looking at it that it all started with a pill box! Love it!
Jennibellie...I just wanted to let you know that I think this is brilliant. I've been wanting a quick and simple way to use boxes pitched in the recycling bin and you've come up with my solution! thank you for posting this viddy!

What a cute idea. Thanks Would have never thought to do such a thing, but I love the concept.
That's really cool I love the colors and design of the book. Kudos for recycling as well!

Can you do this with tracing paper instead of wax paper?

Yes!! Freezer paper!!! Forgot about that one. it's waxy one one side only. I use it as freezer paper, but have used it in applique work for years.
+Cindy Wochner I think that's what it is x
