1969 F100 Dyno Run and Sprayed with Nitrous on the Original Motor

  • I take the 1969 F100 to the dyno to get a baseline for the old tired 360 FE motor. Just to see what we can get out of it I spray it with a 100hp shot of nitrous!! Walk through the maintenance steps I took to give it the best chance for survival, before heading to the dyno.

    I typically hit those plastic posts like on the dash cluster with a small dab of thin super clue. Clean out any excess with air or a Q-tip. It helps fix any cracks you don't see before you run gently a screw back in.

    The rating on the door jam is for brake hp or at the crank. Your testing hp at the back wheel. Big difference. It did pretty good for a old wore out motor.

  • @kelvinhill9874
    @kelvinhill9874 4 роки тому +2

    The HP rating was crank HP, not wheel HP. You lose 50-80hp through your driveline from friction and viscous drag. So there was no way that it was ever going to make 175hp on the chassis dyno. It wouldn’t have done so, even when brand new.

  • @morgansword
    @morgansword 4 роки тому

    Funny but the public doesn't know all FE blocks have same bore and crank journals. Just toss in the rods that you desire and tag it. Definitely do a timing chain asa I have seen them running and you could make the chain nearly walk over the teeth cause the plastic come off the cam gear. Plus those chains stretch for miles/LOL I would roll bearings, rings and scuff the cylinder walls with a recreational cam and they wake right up. Try and find the biggest valves that you can and plain the heads on the piston side as well as the intake side then the intake too. It really makes a difference when you up the compression and the timing is tight... go electronic timing and put the points in the glove box and forget them. don't go fancy coil and cap, not worth it good video, new subscriber tonight

      @VTiredIron 4 роки тому

      If I’m not mistaken, the 390 has about a 1/4” more stroke on it than the 360. Not sure if longer rods/shorter pistons would make any difference in displacement (I suck at math lol) but those old FE’s are great engines. I especially love the sound of the 360’s.

      I'm just entertained by nitrous. I kinda wanted to see it make 175hp at the wheels... I should have driven the truck afterwards, used nitrous and seen if it would do a burnout... just for a fun butt dyno baseline. Cool that we basically have the same truck!

The chevelle’s both have a V8 one 502 the other a 283 but the 283 doesn’t fit your rulebook so we can’t count that one. My friend which I share workshop with has four running mopars with V8, and one of my closest friend is just wrapping up his old school flathead build as we speak. Which according to your rules neither can be counted. You are welcome to Norway, you clearly haven’t been here much.
