Highly recommend Derek's courses where I learned to paint on on glass including using a dipping pen. It's an intuitive medium which feels familiar. Thanks Derek
Thanks so much Derek. I love your videos. I share many of them to my Adult Education course sites. I’ve just bought some dipping pens and am going to give it a go!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I’ve been tossing around a colored pensil drawing I did some years ago and painting it on glass, but couldn’t figure out how to do such feathered or furred effects. This will work beautifully, I think, after some much needed practice. You are always so helpful and I am always so grateful to you.
Love these projects! I had recently added the Pilot iro-utsushi to my art pens. Hoping it might work for this. It's a cross between fountain and dip pen, with a good nib that's very smooth and easy clean up.
love your work. I am a painter (born in Holland) and for many years worked as an etscher .Work now on oceanide 96 glass with fusing. Live in Israel and here only glassline and color powder available. Mixing color powder with standard medium works with drawing pens?
I've got a decent handle on pens, but have continually struggled with the viscocity of the paint. I suppose I simply need practice, but it's just me here in my studio-- hoping to find a bit more community of artists (whether glass or not) in the coming year
Hello Derek, your work is beautiful and thank you for all the tips, tutorials and advice in your videos, quick question, if I don't have a kiln yet, but would like to start adding details such as the ink additions here minus the advanced washes/layers etc (basically just the first step) can I set my oven to lowest and dry ink in there, or is it necessary to use a kiln for these pieces?
Depends on what oven you have. The paints are toxic so can’t go in a food oven. The paint needs to be fired at 650 centigrade to bake the paint on permanently, and anything under that temperature won’t really work. 🙂
@@DerekHuntArtist Thank you so much for this comment, I've been looking for something that would stick around long term (paint wise) without having to heat or fire. Once again, much appreciated. Time to start saving up! Happy New Year
Excellent tutorial, as usual. Can the paint be made with any other colors besides tracing black? If so, are the proportions of pigment to oils roughly the same?
Viscocity question: a) it doesn't flow but for about two lines. I add oil. Then it seems to not be opaque enough. Feels damned if I do, damned if I don't. 🤷♀️ Still struggling. Yours seemed perfect consistency from the get-go, hoping I figure it out eventually.
Ok try this - mix up a brand new batch of paint, 5ml of paint, 5 ml of lavender oil and 10ml of clove oil. Leave for 24 hours then try with your pens. Let me know how you get on 🙂
I've tried my first bird with a brush and no need to say it was far from being good hopefully next time I'll try dipping pen 😊
Practice makes perfect - let me know how you get on with a dip pen🙂

Great stuff! Not tried that particular pen before, let me know how you get on. 🙂
Another great demo Derek. I’m heading straight to Amazon now

Not sure, I use Reusche glass paints mixed with 2 parts clove oil to one part lavender oil and that works well.

Thank you for watching and for your support!🙏🙂

Yes, you can use this method with a variety of paints and also yellow silver stain. You’ll have to experiment a bit to make it work for you 🙂👍🏼

@@DerekHuntArtistwhen you say 5ml of paint... Do you mean the dry medium? You're not adding any water, just the clove and lavender oils?
sorry dipping pens
