Using watercolours on them with a brush is such a good idea! The reason why I haven't taken out my glass pen is because the 2 inks I have don't work very well with it/don't look so nice, but I have really pretty shimmer watercolours 😭 I can't wait to try this out now
I just got my first glass pen yesterday and I’m so in love!! This video was a game changer for me because I had no idea I could do the things you demonstrated which only makes me love this pen even more! Thank you for sharing!!
I make glass beads and I tried to make a pen, but it was really hard to do! I’m currently waiting for a cheap glass pen to be delivered so that I can try it out.... and I’m also hoping that when I physically have one in my hand it might make it easier to figure out how to make my own! Thanks for the videos!
I just broke the tip on mine this weekend. Don't drop them into a glass jar of water to clean them off. Seems like a no brainer. So whats that say about me 🤣
Depending on the break, it is might be possible to sand the point with 320 grit sandpaper or a fine nail file to make the pen work again. That being said, it is likely that sanding the tip will change the thickness of the line - which is not always a bad thing.
Well dear, it can happen to everyone, do not beat yourself up about that, such a waste of energy. Simply buy an even more amazing looking one and see it as meant to be 😄😉

:) I’m bullet journaling this year and I wanted to include calligraphy and all that handletering in it. Then I found this channel! I love your vids and you inspire me to continue hand lettering
I'm left handed. I've struggled with the twist style pens in the past. Probably due to the angle I work at. I think the straight pens work better for me. Would love to find one with a thicker nib for my shimmer inks.
There are monoline calligraphy nibs that come in bigger sizes! Also the caran d’ache fiber tipped waterbrush is a great monoline option for shimmery watercolor!
@@EnsignInsights Hello, The link to the handblown ones does not work. I wanted one with the same kind of comfortable handle as the two hand blown ones. Please can you recommend me any that have comfortable handles and easy to write with and grip. There are too many on Amazon and I would like a recommendation, thankyou. x
Ah! Thank you for this! I couldn't manage my glass pen when I first bought it about two years ago but... I was using India inks! I dusted off my old glass pen today and tried it out with watercolors (liquid dye based watercolors, and watered down tube watercolors and of course metallic watercolors brushed onto the pen tip, used mostly on mixed media paper) and I was having so much success. I'm totally obsessed and inspired now, thinking of all the ways I can utilize my gorgeous glass pen. Question: do you notice much difference in the pens writing ability between; 1. The hand blown glass pens and the mass produced glass pens? 2. Between the two different nib styles like the long straight nib vs the teardrop shape nib?
I have two glass pens and love love love them . They are so much fun to work with and so much you can do with them . I love your video it was full of information on how to use it. I use Indian ink that works so beautiful, because it won’t bleed when using watercolors with it.
until recently i didn't even know that there are such wonderful tools made of glass that you can also write with and if someone had told me you could also write with artistically shaped pretty glass pens, i would hardly have believed it, or thought that this is possible. .. but it really works and i can understand very well that you would like to have more than just a glass nib, because this is a very pretty useful tool. :)
I had a glass pen years ago but I have no idea where it is, so I bought another one, from Temu. My new one arrived yesterday, in a sturdy black box. It came complete with 6 jars of ink and a glass pen rest. All the inks seem to have a gold shimmer in them, which is nice, but unexpected. My friend said hers was the same. So...now for the playing!
Your work is simply gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I'm hoping that someone will please answer a few questions for me. (Or point me in the right direction.) Do glass pens and fluid writer pens use the same ink? Are there benefits (or downfalls) to one type of pen over the other? I am thinking of buying the supplies for my 17-year old niece, so any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time. 🥰❣️ 🥰❣️
Sarah I just can't have worksheets coz it's difficult for me to get smooth paper here . Is it very very important to practice with them or should I continue my practice by looking and doing from vids. Personally I think that's not much difference between the two.
I just got a glass pen set with some inks. I am doing something for my mom's birthday and I'm so happy they are easier to use than the dip pens I used before. WIsh me luck.
Your handwriting is amazing!! Okay I really need to get my glass pens out and really really try harder to improve my handwriting and practice those gorgeous letterings
My dollar tree just started to sell like these glass pens that come with either pink ink or green ink and I bought one and I’m trying to learn how to use it!
I wrapped my pens in a small microfiber towel type thing to keep em from breaking. then I put the wrapped pens into a zip lock bag. also I bought the holder & cleaner from Amazon. it cleans well, but the holder is very fragile. jus letting yall know
I received a glass pen set for my birthday and have yet to use it but after watching your video I will start using and practicing with them. I gave both mixed media and water color papers. Other than writing with them are they good for drawings too? Enjoyed your calm voice and the video.
I absolutely love my Amazon glass pen. I also use the exact same gold ink. It's the one I find works best with it. I cannot, though, seem to get it to work well with inkjet printer refill ink.. I use it a lot for painting, but I find that I need to buy proper writing and drawing inks for my pens. My fountain pens, ofc will never be used with anything aside from fountain pen ink, or maybe food coloring once one starts to break/wear. See if that 'hack' works.. Love the videos. I thought I had wasted money on my glass pen until I found which inks work best. Ultra Black Chinese ink and Dr Ph Martin's. Other dip pen inks work ofc.
I just got my set of glass pens, new to this art, cross your fingers and toes I never thought to use watercolor paint. I tried it with my India inks, your right very hard to clean after…I dipped mine is alcohol to clean it…it worked but don’t know if that’s the right way to clean
I just tried to go to the firespider link you’ve posted and it does not exist, unless I did something wrong…just an fyi. I have glass pens and am anxious to use them. Thanks
You don't need to use any type of watercolor with glass pens, and most people I know do not use them. Glass pens work as well with calligraphy inks as do steel dip pens, and also work with some fountain pen inks.
I have a glass pen. I have found I can actually use a glass pen. Where I cannot use a fountain pen or a calligraphy pen. Because I am left-handed. Glass pens I have found work just as well when being pushed across the page as they do when being pulled. Which is extremely difficult with fountain or calligraphy pens.
Thanks for the well-put-together post & contact info for Skyler to get a hand blown glass pen - appreciated. After watching & listening in eager to get out my glass pens & liquid w/c inks & actually try them. I bought a couple cuz others made them look cool, but was too intimidated to give 'em a go -- thanks to you, now I'm willing to experiment. ;-)
my glass pen if from the dollar store and has a slight sharp edge to it. Like an angled it. It sharp enough to cut through the paper if i push too hard. Is that bad? or is there a way i could work with it?
If you can make it work without ripping the page that may work! Or maybe you could try a new one and see if it's doing the same thing? Mine could leave an imprint in the paper if I push hard enough but probably wouldn't rip the paper. I guess I also use thicker paper so they could probably rip through thin paper!
I paid only $5 for mine from Amazon. Just FYI all glass pens are hand blown. Some are crazy ornate and gorgeous and you can spend as much as you want. I love my $5 pen from Amazon. They're too expensive to make commercially. They'd have to charge us ALOT IF $$$. Hand blowing them is better for us and the people that blow these pens I love mine. It was messy the first time I opened my ink. I really love faux calligraphy and glass pens can only do mono-line lettering. I'm better at Faux but I'm getting better with brush pens.
I have a single glass pen in my collection and I still didn't find any use to it. Its really aesthetically pleasing to watch someone use it but not so fun writing with it yourself. Too much mess.
I'm in the same boat .. I'd love to actually be some one who not only likes to use it but is able to gracefully ... .. I think I'd like it if I was able to do anything with them I'm just not that talented
I enjoyed your video. Watching you letter with different media was absorbing. Please note, ALL glass pens are hand blown, even those cheep-o ones from China.
I loooove my glass pens. I never thought to use my Karin markers on them though, so thanks so much for the tip!!

Can I use normal Parker ink with glass pens if I want to?
You don't need to use any type of watercolor with glass pens, and most people I know do not use them. Glass pens work as well with calligraphy inks as do steel dip pens, and also work with some fountain pen inks.
