  • In this video I disassemble the rear axle of my 1987 Suzuki samurai. I show removing the brake drums, brake backing plates, 3rd member, and taking the differential carrier out. If you find this video helpful, please like and subscribe.

    there is no oil in that housing just crappy mud :( wonder how this work so long

      Yeah it was very dirty, but that was actually gear oil in the rear axle, it just had a lot of dirt or sand mixed in. I don't think the dirty oil caused any problems though. The pinion nut was loose and is most likely the only thing that caused any damage.

    I like how on bolt sizes you say "on mine". It reminds me of my 94 s10 where a guy that worked on it used bolts that the threads were right but the heads were different sizes.

      Yeah there is a reason I said that. who knows maybe the previous owner put non factory bolts or maybe they aren't all the same. I've seen stuff like that in the past.

      Yes, but I didn't make a video on it. But I do have videos on me putting together my cousins axle and my front axle. All are suzuki samurai axles.

    Wow, those pinion bearings were loooose!
    Did you end up reusing the gears or were they too damaged?

    • @davidcraft4909
      @davidcraft4909  4 роки тому +1

      No I did not use the same gears. I bought a used ring and pinion, and a used differential carrier. I think what made it loose was because the pinion nut wasn't tight or crimped. because the bearings actually seemed to be in decent shape, but i replaced all the bearings anyway.

    I like how I’m watching a how to for my junk axles with a shot of oil in the pumpkin and leaks from every seal and pivot 🤣

      @davidcraft4909  4 роки тому +1

      yeah these samurais are pretty tough but I'm starting to learn they need a fair amount of maintenance and as long as you keep that up nothing major really goes out unless you are really rough on them. thanks for watching

    Hey what is the tooth count of ring and pinion in 1988 jimny with F5A engine? Could you please help

    • @davidcraft4909
      @davidcraft4909  4 роки тому

      I'm sorry but I can't help you on that one. I live in the US and we only have samurais up to 95 and I believe they are all 1.3 L. I actually had to google search what a F5A engine is.

    Hola amigos soy de mexico y tengo un suzuki samurai 1994 alguien savra q retenes yeba en la caja y en diferenciales es dificil conseguirlos

    • @davidcraft4909
      @davidcraft4909  4 роки тому +2

      sorry I don't really understand the question. but i think i understand that you are asking about the seals in the caja is box, like you mean case. the rear axle has 3 seals one is the pinion and is hard to get to the other is the axle seals and they are sort of easy to get to

    Rear axle without oil? wow... broken all inside gear

    • @davidcraft4909
      @davidcraft4909  4 роки тому

      no it had oil, it messed the gears up because the pinion was loose like i shown in the beginning of the video. so if you ever see one loose on anything fix it fast and it will be cheap, let it go and it will cost more to fix later. thanks for watching
