I've started always only getting the same color and type of socks, so they are all the same, meaning that when I get a single, I just save it for a little bit, until there is another single, and pair them up. It works like a charm. :)
I do this too.... All black socks means that i don't dread sorting socks at laundry time.... they ALL match each other. Saves loads of time and frustration!!!
My mom is a cat person, I need to tell her about this technique. My mom always owns a cat. We still miss Neko, he passed away. Now my mom and her SO adopted Cami. She's the nicest cat ever. My mom saves plastic spoons, because that's how they serve her cat food.
Oh! I actually do that if I end up with a puppy. Easy to make and that way I'm not wasting money on sweaters that aren't going to fit a growing pup in a few weeks
I use my single sock for making a heating pad. Add rice "not minute rice " and heat up in the microwave for a minute at a time until it's as hot as I like.
Also make good ice packs for hard to reach or hands free icing such as for tooth/jaw/headache pain. Slide a small cold gel pack into one or two, if needed. safety pin the toes and tie the ends. I did this for both sides of my face after wisdom teeth were pulled. Have also wrapped around sore shoulder and ankle.
When I was a kid I used to use socks to make Barbie clothing. I made sooo many! the socks are perfect for that because are stretchy and fun-coloured. From leggings to dresses and winter coats... the whole clothing collection was made out of old socks. I am just curious if anyone else did the same as I did?
I have a gross factor when it comes to cleaning the outside of the toilet with my regular cleaning rags. So, I put on the single sock start with my mirrors move onto the counters and then the whole outside of the toilet before throwing it away. Ah, much better...
You can make sleeves for glass bottles, to take them to work, school... They insulate the beverages and protect the bottle from breaking. Also, depending on the design of the sock, they look very cute too! 😉
Paused vid to run outside and retrieve the socks I threw away after watching the first video. Damn it was cold! Got myself another cup of coffee. Pressed play and immediately felt satisfied with my decision to get those socks back. Felt a tiny bit less satisfied when realizing that the last thing some of my neighbors saw before driving off to work was me in my terry robe and fluffy slippers, digging through my garbage can.
I always do stupid stuff like that. I remember watching Dominique Sachse and her workout video, doing the exercises while watching. I managed to kick the christmas tree but prevented it from toppling over using my leg to support it. There I was, in a sort of push up position desperately trying to prevent that stupid tree from falling when my dog entered the room and started humping me. It ended in disaster ofc, but I'm sure it looked funny :)
I like to wait until a get a few single socks like 5 or so and then stuff them into the biggest single sock I have. Tie a knot on the end and then I have a new dog toy. If they destroy it, I just restuff the socks into a sock that is still intact and make into another sock toy for the dogs. I keep going until there is no hope left for the socks and then throw it away.
My brother has a huge scar from a skin transplant on his arm. He can't let sunlight touch that skin as it won't heal. He takes single socks, cuts the toes off, cuts a hole under the heel for his thumb and uses these to cover his arm when working outside.
Slip your children's frozen water or drink bottles in them. They prevent the bottles from 'water sweat'. No more wet books in their backpacks. Use a cute printed one, it really works.
Hi.dear.. I really want to tell you.. how I m using single socks... 1. I put my hair straightner.. in it. 2. covered the legs of. bed..so if .i want to move my bed. to other places.. it will move easily. 3. I put my expensive.. slipers in it.
I heard about a "single sock bag" where you put all the socks with missing pairs in and then the next time you do laundry if you have any more single socks you can go and see if they match or whatever. I've actually retrieved so many pairs of socks that way. So... that's kind of off-topic but hopefully helpful.
Just read this one in The Laws Guide for Nature Drawing and Journaling. When doing watercolor sketching outdoors, cut off the foot of an orphan sock, put the cuff on your non-dominant wrist, use it to clean your brush as you sketch. One less thing to carry with you!
I am allergic to low grade metal so for instance all the brass doorknobs in my apartment have single socks on them. I roll them down and put an elastic on the door handle so they don't look like socks on a doorknob and voila...no more rashes!
Single tube socks are great for DIY heat packs. Just fill a clean sock with uncooked rice, (optional-add a couple drops of essential oil of your choice), tie a tight knot at the open end of the sock. Micro for 1 - 1.5 min. for toasty comfort for aching muscles or "just because." **ONLY USE 100% COTTON - synthetics melt in the microwave**
I put oatmeal in a single sock and tie it off. My son has sensitive skin and gets eczema so when I let it soak in his bath five minutes before he gets in, it's a perfect oatmeal soak without all the mess. Does a lot for his skin. I have also done the same thing as a facial wash
Favorite use? I definitely mix it up! Around the house when I'm not going anywhere, I'll wear mismatched socks and I sleep in mismatched socks. Just like the tip about putting lotion on hands before bed...why not use it for feet too. Also... I don't have a cat, but aren't there also catnip toys you can make with a sock?
I use single sox with holes to clean my toilet and then throw it in the garbage when done. I also use single sox at the end of the broom to clean the cob webs on the ceiling.
When I was a kid I used to use socks to make Barbie clothing. I made sooo many! the socks are perfect for that because are stretchy and fun-coloured. From leggings to dresses and winter coats... the whole clothing collection was made out of old socks. I am just curious if anyone else did the same as I did?
I like to fill it up with dry rice. I keep one on the freezer and use as a cold pack for kids booboos. I keep another out and can be put in the microwave for a 1 1/2 minutes and use as a hot pack. This las one is great if you ever have a stiff neck.
Oh, I have 3 ways for single socks:1, fill with baking soda and place them in your sticky shoes ,2, use them as a duster for your baseboards , ceiling fans also unreach corners, and 3 donate them to day cares , or schools! Enjoy!
How about diagnosing first why it is that you end up with so many single socks? If you always put a pair in the wash....a pair should end up back in your drawer. If you are always loosing a sock outside of the laundry situation......fix it. My biggest idea for how to use single socks? DOG TOYS!!! YAY!!!! First of all (please don't hate me) I don't tend to loose a mate for a sock. I usually end up with a single sock because one has worn out (and I do tend to mend them when I can reasonably do so)....and the remaining sock becomes that "single sock). REPURPOSE: tie two knots near the center of the sock, with a small piece of sock between them. Give it to a dog. ALL MY DOGS HAVE LOVED THIS....AND THEIR "STOCKINGS" HAVE BEEN THEIR FAVORITE TOYS!!! Dogs love to chew the knots....and the threads that the sock is made of is like dental floss for doggies. They love to have someone throw the sock for them to chase and fetch....or play "tug of war" with them. Don't throw a "single sock" away: give it to your dog or to a pet owner.....or maybe to pet shelters for lonely, displaced dogs. Socks also make great CELLPHONE COVERS. They might not be very glamorous....but they CAN protect your phone from a lot of damage, scratches, and cushioning the impact of a fall. Colorful socks can help you find your cellphone in your purse quickly. And in winter it's a good idea to even put your cellphone into a couple of socks to keep it warmer and operating better.
I am wearing a sock bun in this profile image. It is like a bun maker. To Make: Cut off the toe end of a rather long sock(s) and kinda roll the sock(s) onto itself into a donut. To make the Hair Bun: make a ponytail and pull pony tail thru the "donut" hole. Spread pony tail hair over and around the sock donut towards head until it is all covered. Then, wrap, tie, and pin hair ends to and around the base area of ponytail. Gel and hair spray is useful as well as more ponytail holders and lots of bobby pins. You an also match the sock to hair color if available.
Polishing and buffing shoes and boots. I use it to apply paste was or stain when I'm staining furniture. I keep some in the car for emergencies or for putting on cold metal tools as extra insulation against the cold metal. I make them into pouch bags by adding a draw string and use them for keeping small "like" things together. This works great for kids toys like little farm animals, marbles, game pieces etc. The list goes on.
I do the wear unmatching socks thing actually idk if I even own matching socks anymore. I always get fun colors so that when one eventually goes missing I have another fun pattern to pair lol
Two single socks... Own it! That's hilarious. I routinely dress in the dark to save my spouse from the dreaded light-turning-on while asleep syndrome and I occasionally arrive at work with a black sock on one foot and a blue sock on the other. It's always good for a laugh😊
Thank you Melissa. Love the dryer ball idea most. Was wondering if u have tips on tlc and cleaning for unfinished areas like basements, furnace, boiler room and attics. Dont know if u already did one so i am sorry if u already have done it.
I usually keep single socks in a bag separately and when i find any more i try to pair them up and put them away. Those that i dont find any pairs for for a month or so i discard. But now i have these wonderful ideas to work with. Thanks again!
Melissa I cannot believe you posted this video I found 7 plus single socks yesterday in my drawer !!! And didn't dump them because I thought I could use them for something else
bundle a few socks within each other, out over hand, and use as a cat toy and protecter against their kitty claws. also, I cut them in half and use as rags
put 2 old tennisballs into a sock, knot it, lay down on a carpet and put the so filled sock so under your neck below the head. It will probably find the place itself. Let your head rest on it for 10 minutes. You will relax and sleep better. It has something to do with opening the cranial area ( from my physiotherapist)
During the winter, fill up a sock with cat litter and tie a knot. Put it inside your car and it will absorb the humidity. This way you can avoid foggy windows. You can also use them to protect golf clubs.
Fill 3/4 with raw rice, secure the top tightly with a rubber-band, microwave for 1-2 minutes for a nice heating pad. Store in box to use for future injuries, pms, etc.
I roll up one single sock and shove it in the foot part of another sock....tie a knot to keep it in place and it makes a great tug rope for my dogs. =}
For small children it often happens that one loses a sock around the house (under the beds, in the toy box, in the sofa and Lord knows where else!) and socks do cost money if you need to keep buying them for your kids it does add up. . . Sometimes, they get stuck in the rubber of front-loading washing machines as well (part of the 'mystery sock' enigma solved there. (Besides this part of your washer should be cleaned and checked regularly). As a professional governess 'nanny' for children I am sometimes called upon to be a mother's helper as well and this can involve doing laundry to ease the stress load on moms and one thing I do is use a very effective method to 'repatriate' socks: take a large plastic Ziploc-type freezer bag with a sliding glider and on the white portion for the 'labelling' of the bag write down the name of the child and 'lost socks' ...when you find the second missing sock, match it up with the right one from the bag and then put the pair in the child's drawer. For a family, you can have a 'lost brothers' (which we French people call 'lost socks) small basket with a bag for each member of the family inside and put it somewhere convenient (such as in your laundry room). When you put away clean laundry and you find odd socks 'newly found' it is easy to take a bag and match them with the matching sock from the right bag. Also being able to readily see the socks through the clear bags saves a lot of time and frustration and makes the job much more rapid. You can even get the kids involved in 'fishing out' the right sock out of their bags and make a game out of it. It shows them a bit of 'responsibility' and can do wonders with children who lack confidence in accomplishing a simple task by helping out at a small task while you keep an eye on them at the same time. This method helps deal with inconvenient sock clutter when you do not know how to 'manage' the 'lost sock' issue. . . For busy families this is something I recommend... it makes life a bit easier and saves countless minutes over time. . . For some children (This occurs more frequently with little girls as you teach a child more autonomy in dressing and picking out their clothes on their own) it can become a real cause for pulling a tantrum if you ask them to wear socks which do not match - hence, this reduces the odds of this happening and helps cut down on moments of tension which you can otherwise avoid by managing this more effectively. It becomes a 'Win-Win' situation to deal with more than just the 'odd socks' issue. . .
I have an old pillowcase full of all of the odd socks (like if one had to be thrown away because of a hole) from every pair I've ever had since the age of 16. (I'm 31.) Also, when I switched to only wearing black socks a few years ago, I put all the pairs of coloured socks in here too. I am saving them aaaallllllllllllllllll for making sock puppets with my future kiddos! Which I suppose exemplifies my issue with clutter. Things where keeping a few is fine and reasonable, but I have a problem with scale. How do I know how many is the /best/ number to keep? If one is good and five is great, surely 50 is amazing? No?
I put the sock in a vacuum hose, fold down over the end, and rubber band it in place to vacuum up yucky stuff you don't want to have to clean back out of your vacuum later. Just pull it back out of the vacuum hose when finished and toss or wash. No more stinky vacuum. If you have cats you are familiar with the dilemma.
This isn't for single socks, but for my socks that have holes in the toe. (I know, I should cut my toe nail more often!) I cut two holes in the toes, one for my four fingers and another one for my thumb. I use them as sleeves when biking or ice fishing.
When I was a kid, we lived where 120+F was not abnormal during summer. Sonmy mom used to Keep old socks or wash clothes in the car to handle to seat belts. And to stuff them between u and the metal so it wasn't so uncomfortable.
single socks will keep a baby bottle warm or cold longer and makes the bottle easier to hold. I just put the sock around the bottle fold the extra down and done.
Use a single sock for decor, cut the top part of a sock then cover a cake frosting plastic container. Use for toothbrush holders, pen pencil holder, ect...
I wear mismatched socks all the time, no one can really see them when they are under boots and jeans unless your jeans are on the short side and you cross your legs snd they pull up x
U can roll them down, fill them with dirt and use them a seed starter pots. Good drainage, easy to get the plant out, and the roll helps keep it upright
I put a bar of soap in a single sock and place it under the fitted sheet on my mattress near the foot of the bed. Certain soaps supposedly help prevent charlie horses during night, and maybe it's just the placebo effect, but I've noticed a big difference over the years!
Same here
I only have one foot. Makes me so mad when my socks come out of the dryer in pairs.
Clever!
Use it to pet or brush my cat and protect my hand in case I accidentally click her "murder button". 😾
😂😂😂😂😂😂
That made me laugh too hard
lmbo
Ha ha 😜🐱😜
My mom is a cat person, I need to tell her about this technique. My mom always owns a cat. We still miss Neko, he passed away. Now my mom and her SO adopted Cami. She's the nicest cat ever. My mom saves plastic spoons, because that's how they serve her cat food.
I made a sweater out of one sock for my little puppy just cut holes for the feet kept her nice and cuddly in the winter
awww
Oh! I actually do that if I end up with a puppy. Easy to make and that way I'm not wasting money on sweaters that aren't going to fit a growing pup in a few weeks
"Dusting with a single sock has proven to be 100% more effective than not dusting at all." LOL
😄😂🤣
It was a really good line 😁
Sock on broom handle bye bye cobwebs on the ceiling and dust under furniture. secure it with a rubber band. Great for polishing shoes and furniture.
I use my single sock for making a heating pad. Add rice "not minute rice " and heat up in the microwave for a minute at a time until it's as hot as I like.

I have done this as well
Great idea!!
This was my idea, as well, surprised they didn't mention it.

Ya me too

divine34j me too
I filled a sock with rice, tied a knot and use it like a heating bad on my shoulder!
I have a gross factor when it comes to cleaning the outside of the toilet with my regular cleaning rags. So, I put on the single sock start with my mirrors move onto the counters and then the whole outside of the toilet before throwing it away. Ah, much better...
genius! I'm gonna try that!
I use a paper towel for that
You can make sleeves for glass bottles, to take them to work, school...
Felt a tiny bit less satisfied when realizing that the last thing some of my neighbors saw before driving off to work was me in my terry robe and fluffy slippers, digging through my garbage can.
hahaha XD
LOL so funny!
AnnaKaize you are so funny.I enjoyed your comment so much.you made me laugh .
My brother has a huge scar from a skin transplant on his arm. He can't let sunlight touch that skin as it won't heal. He takes single socks, cuts the toes off, cuts a hole under the heel for his thumb and uses these to cover his arm when working outside.
I love that idea. I've got a wrist brace at the moment and the Physio doesn't want my baby to chew it.
best thing ever when you haveca single can't find the other throw it away abd suddenly the lost one appears smh
Sober up, dude.
3. I put my expensive.. slipers in it.
i never wear matching socks so i never have any sinhle sock😂
I heard about a "single sock bag" where you put all the socks with missing pairs in and then the next time you do laundry if you have any more single socks you can go and see if they match or whatever. I've actually retrieved so many pairs of socks that way.
So... that's kind of off-topic but hopefully helpful.
I have made a doughnut bun thing lol I have no clue what it's called but it gives a very nice bun xoxo
It's called a sock bun!! :)
Just read this one in The Laws Guide for Nature Drawing and Journaling. When doing watercolor sketching outdoors, cut off the foot of an orphan sock, put the cuff on your non-dominant wrist, use it to clean your brush as you sketch. One less thing to carry with you!
In the winter I put single socks under matching socks for more feet insulation;)
Ann marie White me too
I am allergic to low grade metal so for instance all the brass doorknobs in my apartment have single socks on them. I roll them down and put an elastic on the door handle so they don't look like socks on a doorknob and voila...no more rashes!
I have pet rats and I use single socks to cover their wire ramps because wire flooring can damage their little feet.
That is so kind of you!
Great option !!!!
I don't think 100% cotton socks exist (wouldn't stretch)
I use one to scrub my face. kinda like a wash cloth but better control. just slide my hand in.
Fill them with rocks/marbles and used them to weight down a blanket or towel on a windy day outside
I use mine as dog toys, tie a bunch of knots into them and let the dog go nuts.
I turned mine into catnip toys for my cats
What's your favourite way to use a single sock?!
I put oatmeal in a single sock and tie it off. My son has sensitive skin and gets eczema so when I let it soak in his bath five minutes before he gets in, it's a perfect oatmeal soak without all the mess. Does a lot for his skin. I have also done the same thing as a facial wash
cut off the top of the sock and use it as a glass coozie(sp?). It soaks up the condensation, and makes it easier to hold onto a very cold glass.
+John Leeroy 😱😱😱
Fart bag?
I always wear unmatched socks. Who has time for matching socks! #singlesocksneedlovetoo :)
fill it with used dryer sheets and tie it off for an odor absorber. Toss that in the bottom of the kitchen trash bin (below the liner bag).
The tennis ball in the sock also makes an awesome dog toy!
I like to cut partway down one side and use it on my Swiffer-type mop. Best thing ever for dusting walls!
Something's suspicious about the puppets' hair! Where did the hair come from? I'm just asking.
I use single sox with holes to clean my toilet and then throw it in the garbage when done. I also use single sox at the end of the broom to clean the cob webs on the ceiling.
I use single socks for catnip for my cat.
I never thought to use a sick as an eraser. Genuis!
Use ur socks as a scruber to ur body
I use them for staining my cabinets.:)
for knitted socks with holes -
cut by the heel and use the upper part as wrist warmer....
When I was a kid I used to use socks to make Barbie clothing. I made sooo many! the socks are perfect for that because are stretchy and fun-coloured. eww where did the hair on the sock puppets come from? they look like human hair removed from a hair brush
Put rice in them and make your own hot/cold packs. They can be microwaved or thrown in the freezer.
I don't have single socks because I safety pin them together when I take them off.
Dawn Faddish brilliant!!
How about diagnosing first why it is that you end up with so many single socks? If you always put a pair in the wash....a pair should end up back in your drawer. If you are always loosing a sock outside of the laundry situation......fix it.

I do a lot of canning, cut the foot part off, wrap around the glass jar and store. This protects from light and breakage
My single socks turn into a hair tye! Just cut off the top and roll it up. Now you even can make a bunn, sassy or a office tight hot bunn et foila! 😆
When washing my car, it's great for removing the brake grease that gets left behind.
Keep money in them :) but DON'T tell anyone!!
People say that for each sock that goes missing a container lid appears. I cut mine open and use them aa cleaning rags.
One of the things I use my spare socks for is to make sock buns.
What Are Sock Buns?
same here
Yeah! ~ Sock Bun?
how do you make a sock bun?
I've also used single socks to remove scuff marks from my vinyl floor. Just give a few rubs and the mark is gone.
I use this cramps and knee pain.
Fill a sock with uncooked rice, pop it in the microwave for a minute or so and apply it to your achy area.
I use Single socks to pickup hair on floor. They stick.
life is too short for matching socks
Polishing and buffing shoes and boots. I use it to apply paste was or stain when I'm staining furniture. I keep some in the car for emergencies or for putting on cold metal tools as extra insulation against the cold metal. I make them into pouch bags by adding a draw string and use them for keeping small "like" things together. This works great for kids toys like little farm animals, marbles, game pieces etc. The list goes on.
I use it as my sunglasses covers/ case ;)
My daughter and I save the single socks and cut them into strips to use for rag curls.
Braid a few for your dogs new toy.
You tie couple of knots and there are you go, you made a dog toy🐶❤️ Jacqueline
I do the wear unmatching socks thing actually idk if I even own matching socks anymore. I always get fun colors so that when one eventually goes missing I have another fun pattern to pair lol

how many times can you say 'single sock'
I make a donut out of it and use it as pin cushion
Thank you Melissa. Love the dryer ball idea most. Was wondering if u have tips on tlc and cleaning for unfinished areas like basements, furnace, boiler room and attics. Dont know if u already did one so i am sorry if u already have done it.

You will relax and sleep better.
It has something to do with opening the cranial area ( from my physiotherapist)
Regina Fuerst GREAT tip.
Put one over the worm tub when packing them into a tackle box. This helps them not spill
I love the last one ^_^
I like putting rice in a sock and microwaving it makes a great heat compress for sore muscles.
During the winter, fill up a sock with cat litter and tie a knot. Put it inside your car and it will absorb the humidity. This way you can avoid foggy windows.
You can also use them to protect golf clubs.
Paula Figueiredo GREAT tip!!!
Fill 3/4 with raw rice, secure the top tightly with a rubber-band, microwave for 1-2 minutes for a nice heating pad. Store in box to use for future injuries, pms, etc.
Gathering last parts of many soaps into a sock and reuse it
I roll up one single sock and shove it in the foot part of another sock....tie a knot to keep it in place and it makes a great tug rope for my dogs. =}
u can make a duster by stitching single socks together
I stuff socks into one and sew the open part and done dog toy.
A CAUSE WE ARE CANADIAN
AND
B WE WERE REALLY IN THE WRONG
I use them as sleeves when biking or ice fishing.
cool
When I was a kid, we lived where 120+F was not abnormal during summer. Sonmy mom used to Keep old socks or wash clothes in the car to handle to seat belts. And to stuff them between u and the metal so it wasn't so uncomfortable.
I put one on a cell phone when traveling. That way, it doesn't get a scratched screen due to the hectic nature of traveling!
A shower mit and a swift duster for the floor
Bright colorful socks make wonderful stuffed toys for an infant. No embellishments needed, the colorful patterns are very interesting to a baby.
single socks will keep a baby bottle warm or cold longer and makes the bottle easier to hold. I just put the sock around the bottle fold the extra down and done.
I've used rolled up old long tube socks to wrap the metal edges around my instant bed frame to prevent the occasional and awful toe stubbing(s).
I love using single socks to clean up something super gross. I don’t feel bad about throwing it out afterwards.
U can roll them down, fill them with dirt and use them a seed starter pots. Good drainage, easy to get the plant out, and the roll helps keep it upright
Use single socks to clean dust on ceilings. Dampen one single sock and attach it on a long rod or broomstick then reach those high ceilings! Viola!!!
I half fill with uncooked rice, close with an elastic band and use it as makeshift eyepillow for Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation)
Fill a single sock w rice...maybe add some essential oils tie it up. put in microwave for a minute and use as a heating pad
I put a bar of soap in a single sock and place it under the fitted sheet on my mattress near the foot of the bed. Certain soaps supposedly help prevent charlie horses during night, and maybe it's just the placebo effect, but I've noticed a big difference over the years!
you can put some baking soda in each different socks and made a knot and put it in your shoes.that helps for smelling purpose I guess
I put a tennis ball in mine and use it to roll my back against the wall for sore muscles!!
