This song is a relentless tempest, gripping you from the very first second, and not releasing you until the end, all the while taking you on a journey that ends with the estranged cries of a man longing for what's long since past. It's beauty is something to behold indeed.
I'll never forget the night I first heard this album. I had been a long time fan of ABR through high school. I was anxiously awaiting a new album, then my family fell apart. I lost my big home in the woods, lost my church, and moved hundreds of miles away into a little city apartment with half my family. They "had been deceived into thinking this was the perfect life" One night I finally put on this album. As it played for the first time, I laid down on my bed. I began to float out of my body and sob my eye out. I began having a full-blown vision of everything that had taken place in my life up until this moment. When Jake began screaming "This is a bittersweet dream I've dreamt. Oh Pangaea, where have you gone?" I never felt more understood in my entire life. All I wanted was to go back home and see my friends again. I couldn't believe what had taken place in my life. "All of this is worth every penny. Every cent I would give back. Everything just to be back. Back home." I sobbed and sobbed. It was as if an angel had been sent to comfort me. My favorite band understood exactly what I was going through when for months nobody else did. God bless ABR.
One of my favorite songs by August Burns Red, definitely. I think the song is really about wanting to become whole again. They feel broken apart, like Pangaea, the super continent. This song always gives me chills. I love it.
I totally agree man! Brent is my favorite right after Matt, just because I'm a drummer. He's so humble, if you look at ANY band pic, he's always in the bac of the pic. If you look at the tour blogs, he's rarely in them when they go out to "party" or anything. And he's married, which is awesome. And he plays some sick guitar. :) God bless!
This song and Boys of Fall still jump out to me as the most explosive and meaningful songs ABR has ever written.. just amazing... sheer delight listening to this (:
I know maybe.. 20+ ABR songs. JB's leads. I was convinced when I started learning this that JB was trying to kill me. I just can't get over how amazing he writes and how it completes the mood of the song. Spectacular.
@TheShwaboy This song is about the band's own homesicknes. In the song they sing about Pangea, which was the super-continent that once existed, but now has divided into the continents we have now. So they wish in a metaphorical that it existed again so that they could go home. They were on tour and missed home
pangea is the name for the speculated conteninent that consists of combined modern day continents.. (they used to be connected) in fact they still are connected but theres just a sea in between
AMAZING song !!! but dude i love how abr and oh sleeper said something similar, ABR: Im seeing red Oh,Sleeper: Im sweating red BOTH FROM THEIR NEW ALBUMS RELEASED THIS YEAR -_-
My interpretation of the lyrics is about Jake writing about a longing for a time when there was complete unity in the world, hence the reference to Pangaea , the whole world being 'together' as it were. That is backed-up a lot in my mind by the 'oh pangaea, where have you gone?' line.
Matt beat the shit out of those drums on this song. Wow! This, Divisions, and Leveler are probably my favorite songs from the album, but it's hard to pick favorites with ABR. I like how Jake uses the concept of Pangaea as a metaphor for bridging spiritual gaps between people. Genius!
we didn't go anywhere! We're still at 211 E. Liberty in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan. What have we done? We have a sweet web series with new episodes every Friday! We found this video searching other stuff labeled "pangea"
i don't believe in god. but i do believe in ABR and respect everything they stand for. i interpret their lyrics in my own way. not necessarily in a religious aspect. it's music, not church. people need to grow up, and learn to respect music.
The lyrics could use a revision 1:22 "Between here... between THERE"* 4:20 should just repeat the same verse from 3:31-420 "This is a bittersweet dream I've dreamt, oh, pangawa where have you gone? I'm at all four corners of this world- Oh pangaea, what have you done?" Other than a few minor bumps this is good.
@AndreHasGotNoBand It says within the Bible, that all scripture is "God-breathed". That through the guidance of the holy spirit, and the words of Jesus, the Bible was written by man.
@Hajimmysaito....fun fact. Evolution and the Big Bang do not contradict the Bible. Genesis was not written as a scientific text book. If anything, learning about the complexity of our universe affirms my Christian religion. I don't see science as contradicting my religion; rather, it affirms it and deepens my faith. Genesis tells us a narrative. That narrative tells us that God was involved in creation, not how. Just enjoy the music :)
ha composure is my fav off messengers and pangaea is my fav off leveler...really wana hear pangea live thier playin here in pittsburgh 2 days in a row so HOPEFULLY
@womanruel1 Music has everything to do with religion if you deeply think about it. Each lyricist has their own belief (religion) which they express in words. How you act is what you believe in and what you believe in has everything to do with what belief system (religion) you choose. So people will always be quarreling about their interpretations and opinions of the lyrics/style of music with religion spectacles.
@MrJoethehoe666 I see no 3/4 on Internal Cannon. Most are 4/4. ABR usually goes 4/4 to 7/4 then 4/4 again. But I do love Internal Cannon and all the other songs on Leveler. Such great music.
Apparently it's because they find it one of their most difficult songs to play. Hopefully they'll do a ten year leveller tour and we'll be able to hear this masterpiece live anyway.
Composure used to hold place as my favourite ABR song, but when Leveler came out and I heard this it stole the spot right away. The blastbeat section at 1:43 and on and the solo absolutely seal the song for me.
whats up with the part right after he says "clouds opening" at 0:21? it almost sounds like part of another line got cut out? or im just hearing things??
This song is a relentless tempest, gripping you from the very first second, and not releasing you until the end, all the while taking you on a journey that ends with the estranged cries of a man longing for what's long since past. It's beauty is something to behold indeed.
I’ll have what you had mate
I'll never forget the night I first heard this album. I had been a long time fan of ABR through high school.

God bless ABR.
That's amazing what they did for you man. I hope you took whatever good or growth can come from such a disaster. I wish you the best.
In my opinion, this song has the best guitar work out of anything they've ever written before, its truly amazing.
are u from first flight
ABR has some songs that are on another level and this is one of them
3:30 is perfection, one of the best breakdowns in metal.
TheParaxore agreed
Metalcore.
Great but that last 6~88888 of marianas trench takes the cake
It’s not a breakdown
As both a guitarist and drummer, I'm floored by this song every time I hear it. Without a doubt the best track on Leveler.
Just came back to say wow, I can't believe leveler is almost 10 years old now! ABR you give me life 💙
One of my favorite songs by August Burns Red, definitely. I think the song is really about wanting to become whole again. They feel broken apart, like Pangaea, the super continent. This song always gives me chills. I love it.
still the best metalcore album of the years
Underrated classic on a totally underrated album. This band can do no wrong.
Here come the wave of people that just listened to the new Pangea re-recording. Both are great!
This is the best song off of Leveler by far. Empire and Cutting The Ties are fucking awesome as well, but this just kills everything
Salt & Light :)
the whole album. lol
Poor millionaire.
I think the best is salt and light and internal cannon
Man I love this song so much.
2:35 ought to be one of the best, if not the best, guitar solos of all time
2:36 :)
I totally agree man! Brent is my favorite right after Matt, just because I'm a drummer. He's so humble, if you look at ANY band pic, he's always in the bac of the pic. Still stands as a monument in 2024
JB has build his own unique style of soloing.....and i don't need to speak about matt...the drums on this song speaks itslef..
*I think* that this song was written by Dustin, watch this: ua-cam.com/video/S8CbyGgSyaA/v-deo.html
muji 🤣
This song and Boys of Fall still jump out to me as the most explosive and meaningful songs ABR has ever written..
just amazing... sheer delight listening to this (:
One of the best ABR songs
the guitar at the end is so fucking amazing, thanks God ABR didn't let us down after constelations. ABR 4ever!!!!!!
I know maybe.. 20+ ABR songs. JB's leads. I was convinced when I started learning this that JB was trying to kill me. I just can't get over how amazing he writes and how it completes the mood of the song. Spectacular.
Does the Album art for this remind anyone of the illustrations done for Dr Suess books, like the Lorax?
The new version solo is amazing, but still think this one is the perfect one
@TheShwaboy This song is about the band's own homesicknes. In the song they sing about Pangea, which was the super-continent that once existed, but now has divided into the continents we have now. So they wish in a metaphorical that it existed again so that they could go home. They were on tour and missed home
I have to say, this song hits the hardest off of leveler just amazing.
album's best track! Like Mariana's Trench from Constellations and Composure from Messengers (all number 05).
watching in 2017 :P
Me too! I got into them with Rescue & Restore. Definitely going to have to pick up this album too.
2018 here, lul.
2019 and still going, Im going as long as my heart beats on this earth
2022 🤙🏻
my thoughts exactly. this and Echoes are hard to top...
pangea is the name for the speculated conteninent that consists of combined modern day continents.. (they used to be connected) in fact they still are connected but theres just a sea in between
This song hard AF for real niggas only
this + salt & light makes my day
AMAZING song !!! but dude i love how abr and oh sleeper said something similar,
ABR: Im seeing red
Oh,Sleeper: Im sweating red
BOTH FROM THEIR NEW ALBUMS RELEASED THIS YEAR -_-
That's one of the things I love about ABR. You can find morals in their songs, not just religious preaching.
My interpretation of the lyrics is about Jake writing about a longing for a time when there was complete unity in the world, hence the reference to Pangaea , the whole world being 'together' as it were. That is backed-up a lot in my mind by the 'oh pangaea, where have you gone?' line.

Lol
Best song on the album by far.
Love the guitar licks at 2:03
The bass is underrated in this song!
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite song on Leveler.
How I love the intro!!
BEST SONG
why does every good song like this and other songs are so underrated?
who else just loves that riff at 2:03-2:17?
its one of my favorite riff or part on ABR ever still 10 years later ;)
the name is epic as well as this song
1:29 constipation is setting in I am shitting bricks (shitting briiiicks). It's messy gonna burst I am shitting... (I am shitting) BRIIICKS!!
For those of you who do not know what pangaea is, It was a super-continent that existed in ancient times.
the tempo between 1:00->1:45 is amazing!!! Listen the drummer!!!
Best song!
Dude, if the drums in this album sounded like the ones in Messengers, I would love this album even more!!!!
@TxMKrypted Pangaea was the super continent that existed before all the continents separated into their current locations.
great song!!!
Exactly how I feel.
Happy Birthday JB!
@TheJordanJurassic what about it? another amazing song haha. JB's sweeping solo makes me wanna cry. so awesome
i think its impossible to forget this song exists
Still remember?
full of 100% epicness
I so badly want them to play this of Boys of Fall live.
Shoot if their whole live set was the whole album I would be beyond satisfied.
I'm seeing Red!!!
1:14 - "I wish I was still asian, so I could facebook you (facebook youuuuu)" ;)
This is what God listens too
If ABR's purpose is to spread the word of God through music who are we to just ignore it's meaning and discourage others from praising that meaning?
i don't believe in god. but i do believe in ABR and respect everything they stand for. i interpret their lyrics in my own way. not necessarily in a religious aspect. it's music, not church. people need to grow up, and learn to respect music.
ABR LOVES GEOGRAPHY!!!!
Came here after 2021 version
So Amazing :))))))
The lyrics could use a revision
1:22 "Between here... between THERE"*
4:20 should just repeat the same verse from 3:31-420 "This is a bittersweet dream I've dreamt, oh, pangawa where have you gone? I'm at all four corners of this world- Oh pangaea, what have you done?"
Other than a few minor bumps this is good.
1:43 COWBELLS!!
jb stated this is his favorite song from leveler to play.
But they never played it live, until in 2021 onwards.
Just enjoy the music :)
1:13 "I wish I was still Asian, so I could Facebook you!!!"
Cameron Phillips holy fuck hahahaha
Holy shit is right.
I'm such a metal head, I didn't hear this the first.
So funny
I will never unhear this.....lol

Wooow, i need this tabs too. \o
16 year old 1989' or 1988. anak' kon atyn. born 1972.
2:03 is changed my life
Yes actually they did.. They said they wanted to show people their beliefs while not ramming it down peoples throats.
@womanruel1 Music has everything to do with religion if you deeply think about it. Each lyricist has their own belief (religion) which they express in words. @rastafaris123 5/4 from 0:58 no mistakes about it, it's pretty obvious. 0:32 is the one that's hard to get, but it's mostly 4/4 with just 1 2/4 in it.
this song totally kicks ass though!
@MrJoethehoe666 I see no 3/4 on Internal Cannon. Most are 4/4.
ABR usually goes 4/4 to 7/4 then 4/4 again.
But I do love Internal Cannon and all the other songs on Leveler. Such great music.
@pangeapiercing GO BLUE!!!!!!!
Just drop the shit and listen to the song. Thanks guys!
I want to see a drum cover! NOW!
What's this song about? If you give me an answer, please give me a good source. On multiple occasions i've been told the wrong thing. thanks!
@MrJoethehoe666 Oh, okay. 1:00 seems to be 3/4 but had transitions when Jake came and became 4/4. I'm not sure though but I really love that part too.
@XxMetalMartyrxX Where did he say they were "still" connected?
Dude I can fuckin hear it from over here... Turn that shit up!! :o
its called continental drift, that is what Pangaea has done.
Tied with Internal Cannon if not THE best track on Leveler.
@guitardude1243 I truly laughed at loud at this. Thank you.
@satansucks401 The lyrics mostly come from Jake and Matt.. But brent also contributes, i havent heard of JB contributing lyrics.
Anyone know why they've never played this live?
I always wonder this. I search for this live like every few months just in case they do.
Apparently it's because they find it one of their most difficult songs to play. Hopefully they'll do a ten year leveller tour and we'll be able to hear this masterpiece live anyway.
Powerful.
Intense.
Chickens.
@XjohnnyXX LAWL thats amazing
@Rugbymadball im gonna take a wild shot and assume that this song is about eden?
@womanruel1 couldnt agree more.
Composure used to hold place as my favourite ABR song, but when Leveler came out and I heard this it stole the spot right away.
The blastbeat section at 1:43 and on and the solo absolutely seal the song for me.
