That smoke detector chirp sent my dog into a murderous rage and I paused the video for five minutes waiting for one of my smoke detectors to beg for a new battery. Thanks for mentioning it the second time or I'd never know it was all _your_ fault 😜
Was listening to the league when I heard the two beeps. Started turning the house inside out trying to figure out which one was out of juice. LMAOOOOOO
That didn't even occur to me. Looking back at some Stifle vs. Madness rulings on the internet, seems it would remain exiled. That would have saved me a mana that combat and bricked the Cookbook. Great catch!
Love that you are playing this deck now. It’s surprising harder than it first looks at least for me. For Eldrazi and tron I think 4 consign is mandatory as countering the card and the cast trigger is a huge blow out. Frog isn’t as good since they can top deck a haymaker and destroy you. Match up doesn’t feel good unless you quickly reanimate with counterspell back up. I have been messing with Emperor of bones for this match up as you are able to scam the big eldrazis and eat them with Emperor. Touch match up I’ve even considered putting the white sprint that destroys lands so you can destroy 3 lands with ephemerate but I’m not sure if a 2/2 is fast enough to help close the game.
Probably got told by now but niche interaction by consigning the madness trigger of emmy, it keeps the emmy in exile making them unable to cast it or return it with cookbook.
1:27:07 could you consign only the Emrakul trigger and let the creature resolve so opponent can't pick it up and recast? I think you're ahead in the race with Atraxa's lifelink. If opponent keeps Emrakul back to block you can dig for Ephemerate to exile her with a not-cast-this-turn Solitude.
R2G1: could you have pitch-cast the Grief and stacked triggers to force them to Kozzi it for the Ephemerate and get both their spells? It would have maybe bought another turn to find another creature…
Ulamog is also a good reanimate target, especially if you pitched a Griselbrand with Grief's evoke cost. Frog can end a game in a turn with a draw 7 from Griselbrand or draw half your deck with Tamiyo ult. I love the deck. Baby Jace and Emperor of Bones are reasonable for the deck too. Flare of Denial using archeologists has seen game too since there are times when archeologist is a meh card.
I’ve really like Flare bc everyone waits to use their counterspell or hate when you cast goryos. I wanted ulamog to be good but it doesn’t help you find ehpemerate but does help you end the game without one. Bad early if you don’t get any counters on him.
I hate this deck. I hate playing against it, I hate playing it. It would feel super brutal to play against even if they couldn’t ephemerate their big monster, but when they do?
Yeah, that's also how I feel about decks that sometimes have unbeatable draws and sometimes have draws that do nothing (you know, to a significantly greater extent than average decks). I don't want to play those decks and have many games where I do nothing, and I don't want to play against them and have many games where I get blown out.
Match 1 game 3 ending couldn't you have fetched the last surveil land to try and get Atraxa or Griseldaddy into the yard to Vengeance it back plus ephemerate? It is a small chance but always play towards your outs?
The deck is packed with good cards. Which 4 good cards would you cut to make room for a card that spends mana to find good cards? Maybe if Grief or Frog get banned slots will open up to focus on the other packages, but right now there's no room.
@@BoshNRoll It's hard to say and math is required. I'm not sure about suggestions because I haven't invested time in the deck, just surprised that a highly combo reliant deck doesn't have them. Just like if suddenly tomorrow you could play 5 ofs in this deck we would think that it's very likely that we should cut something to bump a card to 5, but not exactly sure what because the deck is so tight.
I agree. Admittedly I haven't played this deck, but on paper a deck with a bunch of cards that do nothing by themselves yet are insane when combo'd (ephemerate, Griselbrand, etc) would benefit from Preordain. Not to mention that usually in order to actually win the game, this deck needs: - Frog + probably discard to get rid of the enemy's removal spell - Goryo's Vengeance + fatty + discard outlet (or a lucky surveil etc) Which isn't trivial to assemble. As good as incarnation + ephemerate is, it probably won't win the game by itself unless backed up by Frog or Goryo's Vengeance, hence the case for Preordain. Hard to say with 100% confidence what to cut, but maybe -1 Priest, -1 Prismatic, -1 Thoughtseize (can move it to the sideboard maybe), -1 land. Yeah, sure, those are somewhat painful cuts, but you can always argue that real cards look sweeter than cantrips, and yet cantrips are good in decks that want to assemble combos like this one does. If putting a higher total number of sweet cards in the deck was more important than consistency, we'd all be playing 100 card decks.
I liked how you gave your opponent props over the course of round 1. Really pleasant to just see you point out what they were doing right.
Esper scamnimator is taking over even this format too?
When Modern bans Nadu and Legacy bans Grief... Modern will become Scam and Legacy will become Nadu
Literally yes.
Goryo's + Emrakul was my entry point into modern. I played this deck before MH3 quite a bit. I hate it.
The first smoke detector made me think i was losing my mind lol
Me too.
Rhymezone says Goryo rhymes with Cornsnow. Thanks Rhymezone!
at 17:47 I believe we are supposed to mainphase 1 fetch, surveil in hopes of hitting atraxa/grisel since we already have the ephemerate + goryo's

1:26:05 What happens if you Consign the madness trigger here? Does that leave Emmy in exile?

Goryos and Frog, I am happy 🥰
I feel like we’re getting some weird audio crackle, at least in the deck tech

@@ppshmcwb5 These are true. So far my favorite reanimation target is Griselbrand. Draw 14. Pitch 14 to frog and end the game as both crash in. lol
Summer of Grief has a few weeks to go. How messed up would it be if they didn't ban the card at all.

How come preordain doesn't make the cut in this sort of deck?

Is it a detriment to the deck if Flooded Strand can't get the GB surveil land?
Any time you have dual lands across 4 colors, no fetch land will be able to get them all. You just have to do the best to balance what's important.
