    If you roll them in a clean tea towel that should quickly remove a lot of the skins. I do that with chickpeas for making smooth hummus. Works well!

    Cool video! I’m so happy there is someone growing all plant based. It’s what I want and I’ve gotta try making soy milk myself. You inspired me.

    If you want to make this regularly, you might want to try using a Soyabella (or another soy milk machine). I've used one and it just makes the whole process SOOOOOOOOO much easier.

      I’ve heard that!! I just got an almond cow maker, but it doesn’t do soy, not sure if I want to add a whole separate appliance. I’ll keep it in mind though!

    A great way to use soy milk pulp (or oat milk pulp) is to put it in the bread dough of a German style sourdough bread (about 50 % rye and 50 % wheat or spelt)

    Love this we are growing soy this year to make milk and tofu, (the left overs can be used in cookies and as crab cakes) also love the vegan pantry book . I really want to get the Almond cow milk machine I always over boil 😆 I am excited to start growing our garden this year and love you are also looking at ways to grow your own soy.

    Thanks for this! I've made soy milk in the past, but want to pick it up again. I usually make cashew milk because it doesn't require any straining. Just whip up the cashews and water and you're done! I also use DIY oat milk for baking and skip the straining step. I figure oats make baked goods nice and moist, so no need to strain out the oat pulp for baking.

    The problem with soy for most Americans who have deed soy to their diet, is that it has a factor that simulates estrogen. Which in some people can cause cancer growth. Now when they’ve done studies on this they have shown that if you are a person who has eaten soy all your life this estrogen does not affect you negatively,and in fact it may actually lower your cancer rates. But if you have never eaten soy and you just started and you are a person recovering from something like breast cancer it can actually increase your chances of cancer coming back. And that is from a study that I read a couple of years ago. And you’d have to eat an awful lot of it for it to impact you, not just a little bit here and there. And one of the big problems with the soy is the pesticides and the things that are used to process it on big farms. So if you grow your own soy or you use organic soy you’re probably going to be just fine.

    I guess soy is like other beans where you can either do the long soaking method or the quickie cooking method on the stove to expedite things. I’ve made cashew and almond milk and they both come very good. Cashews are the easiest because they’re so soft.

      I love cashews so much!! I do like finding other nuts to use though since cashews have to be shipped so far

      @@SunshineFarm Well if I lived on a farm and could grow my soy beans that would be great. But what I was finding was it was costing me as much money to make the almond milk as it was to buy it in the store. Now that being said, if I could use organic almonds that were better than the store bought then it would be worth it. But we do use a lot of almond milk in our home.

    is it a specific type of soy that’s bad, like just the gmo one? Looks delicious and wanna try just wanted to ask because I’m not familiar with which brand to use or plant to use.

    • @SunshineFarm
      @SunshineFarm  2 роки тому +1

      I would source organic non-GMO soy if possible! It’s kind of a confusing and grey area because the research is really mixed.

      @@SunshineFarm yes and there is a lot of uninformed people, resharing information that they heard somewhere. Everything in moderation I think and if it came from God, eating it in it purest form is best.

      Most of anything you buy from the store will also have been grown with a variety pesticides and chemical fertilizers. It's the modern dilemma: convenience with chemicals, or time-intensive home made food. It's an easy decision if cooking is how you relax or if your job is homemaker. But if you work full time plus a commute, there are more considerations of what to do with your "free" time.
