Danny, new flier here, I cut flights two weeks ago...I cut closer to 3" off the 9th and 10th. How hard do you have to pull on the feather for it to come out? I've never done it before and I don't want to hurt the birds.
There is offcourse always huge controvesy regarding cutting and pulling flights of your racebirds.!😅 In fact it makes a lot of sense to do just that. There are so many oppinions around why you should not do this. None of it based on facts and just mostly old wives tales that have been passed down over the years. Your race team is your tool to tackle a racing season with success. By cutting the flights in time and providing the correct care you ensure that your tools are in great order when you start with the seasons exercing and roadwork without having to worry about flights that are half grown thus holding certain of your birds back from being trained on time. You will hear lots of reasons why you should not do this.! Do not take note of all these nay sayers. Instead think for yourself and realize the huge benefits involved for yourself and your birds by cutting and pulling the flights early and correctly before you start training your race team.
That's amazing believe me it's amazing I thought plucking was just pulling the the feather completely out that was my understanding I didn't know that you had to go the way you are saying it wow what kids do when they're young thinking they know everything I could have just had been hurting the bird all along thank you Danny you're the best
Hi Danny Sir. Hope you are fine. Most of birds have dropped their 7th/8th flight naturally. What I am noticing during this period is, that my birds are not flying long time as they usually used to do before. Sir, my question is did this hurt them and causes any pain, as they are not flying long time?
Good morning Danny, Once again very good information love your videos. Have a question what month is molting season and when do you start cutting there feathers.
Very helpful video. I cut the 10th first on may1. And pull it after 2 weeks. When the 10th is growing halfway i can cut the 9th and do the same with 10th. I spray them with bug spray when i do this. Actually my first time doing it. Glad to watch the video it really helps beginners like me
it worked for me not to cut them, I will say this I did better flying old birds then flying young birds. (OLD BIRDS Don"t have a molt problem) many roads to rome cutting them worked for my brother he won a lot of money with young birds. but then again so did I.
Hello Danny! It's MADHU SHANKAR FROM SOUTH INDIA! KANNIYA KUMARI DISTRICT! TAMIL NADU STATE! Here in our locality in high flying pigeons specially night flying competitions are very famous! Pigeons fly continuously for more than 18 to 30 hours ! India being a sub continent we have exact amount of day and night 12hrs/12hrs all through the year that is 365 days! So birds need to fly minimum 11 to 12 hrs on day as well as in 12 to 13hrs night! Ok.now coming to the point... Our seniors minimum 80+ of age ( high flyers) thought us to pull out the tail feathers along with the flight feathers! Is it really recommend or not?what will happen if tail feathers strats falling in the mid of racing season when all 10 flight feathers are intact??
@@Dannyracingpigeons here too... As dusk falls bats come as a huge flock!! Then after 2 hrs cranes moves as a bunch! Then after 10 p.m till 3 to 4am the owls hunt ! If birds get frightened or hit from any other obstacles they never return home!if we start with 40 to 50 birds for a season after all filtration less than 6to8 birds survive after completing 24 to 30hrs every year... That too almost 31 to 43degree celcius birds has to fly in the day time
Ive heard f these procedure but never seen it done before.. I will try to cut 8,9&10 and see how it goes. By the way, the two birds that were attack by the hawk, they’re doing good. I gave them amoxicillin and they responded well. Thanks Danny! Noel Pascua- California
Noel Pascua are you flying them in the club or race? Because if you do. You can cut 9th flight on may 1 or june 1. Pull it after 2 weeks and then when it starts to grow you can cut the 10th and pull in 2 weeks. I do it like that because i want my birds to still train and fly around the loft.
This is the first year I’m flying young birds. Our race starts in September. I’m going to try this technique and I hope it will give me some advantage. Thanks for the feed back my friend.
Hello mr Danny hope you are doing good One of my birds 10th flying feathers are fallen my race is on 2nd next month. Shall I let that bird to participate on the race ?
that is about 70 miles that feather will be out about 1 inch. and it may bleed. think about it you can race that pigeon many times with a full wing if you keep it home. one race today or 20 races tomorrow? it will most likely return but you can hurt it for one race.
Young like the video like this information most people do not know and even if you float Birds you still probably wouldn't know that so I'm not being mean spirit when I say please like is videos when you finish looking at it or when you begin looking at it priced at dumbs up share it if you can
Charles Debaere it happens but you can help your bird by giving vitamins and giving them bath. Not force bath. Help them with stress. When they moult its best to give them a lot of protein like corn or peanuts, sufflower
Any strong feelings why you don’t cut pigeons flights on YB’s. Or is this also for OB’s to. Certainly your brothers method surely shortens the molting process. Frees up more time to toss train?
not for old birds. hurts to pull a feather. your ripping the feather out a muscel. no less time to train bird are locked down while growing new feathers. but on the other hand they are not trained while getting over the pox.
@@Dannyracingpigeons I have 2 birds currently growing the 8th flight. One has it on 3/4 length while the other only has 1/4. Race starts next weekend and up to the next 5 weeks. Is there a way to delay the last 2 flights from dropping?

always something to learn I still do
I did not know that. Thanks Danny 🙏
always something to learn. keep learning it what gets to the top
What is the reason for pulling flights actually ?
so they are done molting when you race them
What is the age of pigeon when you start cutting the 9and 10 feather flights?
about 4 months but remember you need to cut the feathers for two weeks and it takes 6 weeks for them to go back
Can I let my pigeons loft fly after cutting the last two flight feathers (while I am waiting for 13 days to pass)? Thank you.
Yes, you can but hawk will get them

Brother Danny, what happens if you pull Only one blood feather. Will grow out not the same?
it will grow but cut it first
What about just nicking a flight
THAT WOULD WORK
Good morning Danny, Once again very good information love your videos. Have a question what month is molting season and when do you start cutting there feathers.
I did not not do it often I will speak with my brother he did it every year and let you know
my brother did it when the pigeons started to fly for 2 hours. hope that helps

no did not do it. I was more interested in old birds

Yes mr Danny it won’t grow that much fast but my race is around 110km only I have already trained that bird 80km without the 10th pen.

some pigeons just molt very heavy, just feed her high protine feed and vitamins and minerals they should grow back just fine.

no. it will speed it up
