Currently binge watching you're entire playlist!!! Wow, some impressive work has gone into this little Hoplite. Whilst the subject isn't on my radar the techniques you are demonstrating can be used on so many different types of aircraft. I've learned a lot today, thanks. Thank you very much. Indeed, this was a stressful phase in the build but I had stressed more about it before than during the process... I guess there's a lesson there. :)

@@PointBlankModelling I built the Hasegawa 32nd scale P-40 years ago. That came with a 1 piece clear windscreen + the panels directly in front of the windscreen.
To get it to fit the fuselage right, some sanding was required on the the lower seam where there were also recessed rivets. The sanding wiped those out and adding them back in was no fun because the clear part was brittle and the rivets very close to the edge. I ended up with a few stress cracks and some missing bits that crumbled loose from the rivets. In the end I made it work.
Fast forward to the day before an IPMS show and it was finally time to remove the canopy masking...which is where I found 2 huge cracks going right through the clear section. Needless to say the P-40 sat out that years show. Got a replacement part from customer service a nd successfully performed the needed surgery.
Nightmare fuel! I'm glad you could get a replacement canopy for your Warhawk. I feel an urge now to go check the Mi-2's windshield for cracks that may have appeared overnight...
Applying Tamiya cement on a clear part after all that work on the outside ... that was hard to watch ... But the end result is amazing!

Hi Gyula, thank you for your kind words! Applying cement at the risk of losing all prior progress was indeed stressful. In the end, I was also pleasantly surprised that this experiment turned out ok. I have a habit of not finishing projects so right now I focused on breaking that spell and completing the Mi-2 series before moving on to anything else. Having said that, I will keep the workbench tour/toolkit review idea in mind. I share your curiousity and I am always keen to see how others organize their hobby corners and describe their tool preferences, etc. As for the music - I think I may have been subconsciously waiting for someone to call that out. This was my first attempt at recording background music and I am not 100% happy with it either. Even less so after having listened to it for extended periods of time... I won't change it for the next couple of videos but will block out some time later to try to come up with something more peaceful and less... stupid. :)
@@PointBlankModelling Oh no, it's not stupid, I definitely like it, just a bit out of style under a creative video. But you know what? It's fine as it is! :)
As for the distress cracks: Once I tried to warm up a canopy, and bend it outwards, because the fuselage was visibly wider. Goes without saying ... didn't warm it up enough, if it's even possible, so lots of little cracks appeared ... So as far as I know, the AK Gauzy agent is used to make canopies shinier. I have the Intermediate Gauzy at the bench, so I gave it a try, and it removed the cracks much better than I expected!
Hi Gyula, thanks for the tip - I didn't know that the Gauzy agent could do that. I'll keep that trick in mind as I am sure it will come in handy sooner or later.
Very cool video, I would have abandoned the model at half of your difficulties (and in 72nd scale) you overcame all the difficulties with dignity and got out of the situation. Great respect to you

Your level of detail is insane. I've been trying to figure out how to build a lot of these details and thought it was impossible but you're showing that you can build pretty much anything with a bit of creativity and patience. Definitely looking forward to more of your videos.
Thanks so much, Derek! Like others have pointed out, many of these details could have been reproduced with better results via 3D printing technology. Luckily/sadly that's one of the things I don't currently have access to so I need to think of ways to figure things out using the tools & materials I have available. :)
I usually don't like the Mi-2 but yours looks great!
Thank you! It's funny you should say that - I was never fond of them either but having access to multiple Mi-2s within a 30 min radius from my home convinced me start this journey. One of the things that can kill my motivation is the lack of reference photos and this way that was not going to be a problem.

Not gonna lie, I was a NERVOUS WRECK this entire video. I too share your pain and distrust of the infamous clear parts.... Many a dream abandoned due to cracks etc.

Haha, I see what you mean. As well as everywhere else in life, in modelling, there is also an element of picking your battles. With that being said, more often than not I do feel like certain battles pick me rather than the other way around. At the same time it is solely our decision to ignore some of the inaccuracies we come across, so... everything depends on the types of deals one can make with their OCD. :)

I understand that this is a bit of a detour for you. What scale are you normally into?
@@PointBlankModelling Usually 1/48 in modern fighter jets, 1/48 helicopters, 1/72 in modern bombers, 1/35 in armored vehicles / tanks, 1/350 in ships / submarines. What can I say, larger models are a guilty pleasure for me 😁.
I see. :) I like 1/48, 1/32 & 1/35 as well.. i just wanted to start the channel with something small and simple.. and look what I got myself into... :)

Hi Sean! Thank you for your kind feedback. This is the only platform I have at the moment and to be perfectly honest, I haven't finished a lot of models. Unfortunately I have a tendency to abandon projects so this channel in a way is my attempt to introduce some accountability in my hobby life as well.

Great job! I think some of the details would’ve been easier to replicate with a 3D designed and printed parts. Also I was wondering what rotary tool you are using?
Hi there! Thank you, sir! I agree, many of these details would have been so much easier to design & print. I don't have access to a 3D printer but it is definitely on my roadmap to experiment with 3D technology. The rotary tool is an old Proxxon Micromot. I am not sure if they still sell the exact same version but the Micromot series is definitely still out there. (Just for clarity: I have no association with Proxxon or any other manufacturer)
@@PointBlankModelling , don't get me wrong. I do admire Your scratch build skills and attention to details. I also think it proper hard core modelling, like "back in the days". However 3D modelling and printing could take it to another level and give more accurate results. But that just mine humble opinion. Thanks for Your reply, I will definitely look into Proxxon, it's just the tool You are using looked smaller and more compact from what I have seen on market. Unless You are using flexible shaft extension with it.
P.S. I am looking forward to see more of Your work on Mi-2 and final results. I am sure it's gonna turnout great. Best of luck and please don't keep us waiting for too long!

After a few vids like these I quit building models. Will never have time or resources
Don't let videos discourage you if building models is what you like to do! I felt the same way do now countless times in the past. Someone once told me that "you have the time for what you allocate time to". I thought that was a smug remark at the time and only understood what it meant much later. I quit building models a bunch of times over the years for various reasons but every time the hobby pulled me back in so after a while I stopped fighting it. If I think about all the time I wasted on hangovers, jobs I hated, relationships that weren't good for me, etc... I mean, somehow I felt that those things were my priorities at the time but looking back I wish I had spent those years building models (or doing whatever else) instead. There are so many other things out there as well one can immerse themselves in. Generally I try to avoid giving people unsolicited advice but I feel I have to say this: listen to your gut and try and do what's right for you.
So much drama.
