I have 3. None over $140.00 to $150.00 with Amazon coupons. FANTASTIC action and playability right out of the box. I have Gibson, PRS, and Fender P90 guitars. This Grote can hang right with them. Since I have over a dozen guitars with P90's, I loaded one of my Grote guitars with Allparts Mini Humbuckers. 2 of my LPS-023 weigh 6 1/2lbs and one is dead on at 6 lbs. The Minis have a sound unto themselves, but the P90's blow them away
Only $160? I might buy one and send Grote another $75 as gratitude for such a fine guitar at an unreasonably low price.
That jam opened up a jar of kick ass .awesome.
Of all the people reviewing affordable guitars, you have the best in class. You cover all the bases and give honest opinions, not just glowing reviews of garbage guitars. Thank you for posting your videos on UA-cam!
Thanks!
I thought it sounded great. I'm not generally not a P90 guy, but really liked it. Really great jam.
This is a guitar my wife & I will order .. Beautiful I love the how they improved the neck from Gibson design. P-90 pick ups are more for classic rock. Yeah noise gate and my wife & I both recently both purchased brand new Donner Arena 2000 multi effects pedal with amp sims cab sims pedal sims. Plus its set up for gigs & blue tooth ready. & mini recording studio.... It has a built in noise gate plus we both have pedals that are noise gates. Awesome Riff... Great Review... Possible wax pot & shielding may help as well... Cheers 🍻🥃🥃 🎸🎼🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶
I have an Eart guitar and it has the same frets and finish. It's a 335 style and it's got a bone nut also. I have a couple Grote guitars, and they are very nice.
Such a great deal, if I did not already have this iteration of LP/P90s I would jump all over this! Thanks Shredder!
You should try a Slick guitars, Guitar Max said they are advertised with medium jumbo frets but in reality they are huge.
Looks pretty cool and sounds great. That's neat what they did with the neck joint.
It's a winner. The P-90s sound great and it looks very good. $159? Bargain! 😮
I've been kicking around the concept of a guitar review that takes the guitar out of the context for its intended style of play. I suspect that many modern guitars will perform pretty amazingly across all genres. I figure a classic riff or two, some slide, shredding, jazz; all worth exploring. Moreover, Id find it amusing to see outrageously shaped guitars play stuff for parties that theyd never be invited to, if that makes any sense. Whether they bomb hard or turn out pretty great seems to me very interesting. Its sort of an extension to asking Andre Fludd during every review of awesome unicorn-priced jazz boxes if they will chugg so much that he was actually thrashing them once in a while ;P Anyways, i stink and the skilled guys with the guitar channels might be out of their depth on that ask if you consider the amount of time it takes to become proficient playing just one style. Dunno. Good review though, Baldino. Cheap, good little Grote seems like a reliably good rig to start a person out with. Does everything pretty good. Doesnt to anything to make you want to smash the guitar or quit. Looks cool. Hell, Grote even tossed in binding and a sculpted neck carve. Golden Age of affordable and arguably great quality instruments we can choose from.
Man, that's a great looking and mightily spec'd wee bad boy. Love your demos, by the way, Mr Shredder. Keep up the fab content! ( The inclusion of the very pragmatic cheap amp test is a great idea and the guitar gave a very good account of itsel. Cracking value.)
I believe the term your are looking for is "proud". The neck is proud of the binding along the neck. Great video once again. Thanks for explaining the P90 pick ups. I like blues music so I think the P90s would really be good for that. See you Wednesday night Richard !!
SWEET guitar! I ordered the green one.... and I LOVE P90s!. Great playing, thanks for the review!
Good choice!
A better bargain than many. Thanks Richard
Great review Richard! I think the p-90s sound great!
Really nice jam! What a great deal on this Grote. I am diggin' the matte finish too, as I drive myself nuts polishing the fingerprints off my high glosses every single time I play! 😂 Thanks Shredder! 💥💥💥
😎 cool baldhead shred😆! Nice little p90! 🤘thanks Shredder 🤘
The natural look is great. It's why I like my Loomis Kelly. I love feeling the wood. Wait...😳
I loved your jam track. Very nice. This guitar reminds me of a Les Paul Jr but it has the separate tail piece. I checked out the website & I think I will get one. Cheers from down under Brother.
Thanx for the reply & thanx for putting me onto Grote guitars. Cheers Brother.
Jam was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks
Nice jam. And the guitar looks super dark. Which is pretty cool...
your song was great man. i liked this one in particular alot.
Thanks. It'll be on my new album this summer.
Wow!! One of my most goodest likes of your arrangements!! 🤘🤘lol!! Loved it!! Thank you for sharing!🙏🙏
Wow, thanks!
Wow Richard this is such an awesome guitar review I love it. Shred on dude.😃👍❤️🔥⚡️🎶🎸
Great review,, love your videos!!!
Sweet jam . You are a killer. Love your posts.
Thanks
How about that? Another cheap guitar I didn't know I needed, but now can't live without. I'm a huge fan of P-90 pick ups, so this has to be added to my collection. The price is good. I also like the fact that the toggle switch is in between the volume and the tone, so you don't accidentally switch gears, so to speak. I think one CAN play metal on this thing if desired, just don't stand so close to your amp when doing so. I understand how "Microphonic" pick ups can be annoying. That squeal happened to me when I first plugged in my Leo Jaymz SG that I got over the holidays. Again, I just learned not to stand too close to my amp when playing it. On the other hand, I'm more of a "Basher" so I'm more likely to just play straight ahead meat and potatoes three chord punk rock, anyway. Thanks for the review. I think I'm gonna go and order mine now.
I had the Grote SG , I bought it in 2020 for $151 including shipping on Amazon. It was a fantastic guitar and played awesome , no flaws , defects or fret sprouts. I just recently sold it to put the money towards the new Schecter Sunset. I haven't seen the SG's available for a long time on Amazon , I don't know why but it was a solid guitar and had some weight to it. I would definitely buy another Grote down the road , great demo and vid!✌️🤘
I have the Redid mint green SG which is the same company.
@@thebaldshredder Yeah I remember that video , at the time I had no idea it was the same company. I wonder why they stopped selling the SG 🤔
What a great review and fun video to watch...nicely done sir!
Thanks
The jam was awesome really liked it
Love the chime of p 90 pups!
Great Demo! Keep shredding!
Demo sounds great.
You got you some p90s... Yessss. Love the finish too
Awesome jam, very nice!!! Great guitar!
I have had my eye on that one. I think it may be my next purchase after seeing this. My last purchase a few days ago was a Harely Benton JA-60SB and I love it! I got it from reverb for 230.
Sweet brother bald shredder
Great video review James! 👌🔥🔥🔥
Great Demo brother.. That Grote Guitar is pretty good
Shredder love what you're doing great 👍 job Bro
If it were a double cut I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I really like that intro jam. Great vibe. Like a modernized version of a smokey Ted Nugent melody. I hope that makes sense. My vocabulary took a train outta my head. Thanks for another cool video and guitar review. Btw, i really really really like sharp points on a guitar body. I’m glad you like that too, but you don’t have any guitars with it. The rounded tips on strat-type guitars is the one thing I like least about those bodies.
Liked the jam, looks like a good guitar design
With the tasty jams you come up with, you shot up my list of favorite all-time guitarists to - the - top.
You rock!
Such a pleasure to hear, and see, you play.
Thank you 🤘
We’re living in the age
Of The Guitar!
Yep!
@OakCityGamers It's actually referred to as the "Golden Era Of Budget Guitars"
Good review, Richard. I'd probably try this guitar if I didn't have 4 Les Paul style guitars already, including a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
Great jam and yes they need cooler company names.
Cool shred,man!
Matt finishes are growing on me. The Clean sounds beautiful. I had a feeling you would make a new Jam for a New guitar. Thanks TJ
Who's TJ?
Tom Jones?
@@thebaldshredder 😅👍
@@thebaldshredder Sorry Richard I phat fingered it RJ
I liked the song u made. Kind of 90s sounding which I really like
That jam was sick bro!
It's like a very early, Steve Clark guitar
Awesome jam - nice chewy sounding pickups
I have the P90 Epi Special
(the better one)
If I had not found that recently , I would have to get this
Well balanced review. With the P-90's since they are single coil pickups, are you getting a hum with them and in the middle position does it cancel out? When you were getting the "hum" with the gain above 5 was that in the middle position?
High gain feedback was bridge pickup.
Oh dude I get the pickup gain issue, but man it sounds nasty good to me when you get in there, I really like that thing, I would grab one and throw some super metal pickups in her and use it as a sleeper, lol thats a sick guitar dude. Great video as always!!
FWIW, the finish is often referred to as "open pore". I like that the neck has a volute as well. I've been looking for a project guitar to put a TP-6 style tailpiece and locking nut on.
Sounds great
Sounds pretty good ☺️ 👍👍
Dang that's a lovely guitar
I have a Grote Tele.Love it.
When you first said grote I swore you said gross guitar 😂 And I thought well this is gonna be an extra entertaining review
And it was extra entertaining, right? 😄
@@thebaldshredder Right 😄
Hey dude check out the andy Timmons halo from Kellie
I'd probably go for that "blonde" one. Not that I plan on buying one of these.
Nice review!
You WILL buy one of these. (Did that work?)
Just finished the jam, of course it was freaking awesome! and you know I'm subbed lol hold up let me finish the vid,..
I don't think it matters what brand guitar you you play at your level.
Great tune you demoed there with the guitar. It sounded great, really like the overall construction of it. Cheers!
The solo u made sounds alsome n ur real good
Good I mean
You shshould get Sean at Scar My Guitar to do a good tear down on it. He got a Grote that had fake humbuckers in it... Now, having said that... I might get one just for the neck and body... looks good for a relic job!!! It absolutely DOES sound good too though!
are the pickups microphonic? if not then it's probably just 60 cycle hum. the output sounds about right for a P90. if they aren't microphonic and the tone pot works like it should then it should be a pretty expressive guitar great for punk, classic rock and even some country.
Yes they're microphonic.
Not saying Grote doesn't make good stuff, but they really need to consider a name change. I hear "Grote" it sounds like gross to me.
Or Groot…from guardians of the galaxy movie!!
I also hear "Grope" but then again my wife always says I'm so naughty...
@@eddiejr540 "we are Grote!"
Fesley isn't much better , sounds like a character from the Adams family. All these Chinese named guitars sound stupid!
Grape guitars?
As far as how the wood feels I'm curious how they sealed it or if it's going to need periodic wax treatments.
Yes, it's a nice guitar, except for one thing, those ivory pickups.
I might actually get one myself, but I would at least have to wrap those covers in black or chrome, or maybe even a woodgrain that matches (until my budget allows a more suitable upgrade). Still like the P90s ( I already have strats, a HSS strat, and an HH GIO series).
Hey Shredder what Amp/software/modeler do you use to record the tracks in your videos?

@@thebaldshredder it sounds great!
Excellent jam ! P 90s are noisey. Are they humbucking in the middle parallel position ? They sounded it, but that was low gain. Neck is open C ? Standard .85 inches thick ? I figure the leads are an old school hot w a ground rather than a modern 2 leads and a ground. Are they ? You can always put em in series, but that is much easier w the 2 leads so you dont have to take the case off the p up possibly ruining it.
I think ya gotta try to throw some termites or shipworms to hollow out the guitar body it will go from 5.6 pounds to nearly 3 pounds leaving you with more feedback and throw on a gibson pickguard that adds about 17% to 81% of the overall sound they've scientifically researched pickguards are very important for the tone
Classic rock tones with cheap fender practice amp no effects - Angus Young approved!
George Lynch would be proud of that jam!
Mr. Scary approved.

P 90s ! ! !
That fretboard looks super wide like a 7string one, just look at it and then how tiny the body looks next to it.
Um, Mine is a plastic wood looking fretboard. Fine, but not rosewood. The fretboard binding is masked off for paint and that is the edge you feel on the neck.
Demo song sounded great but the tone didn't really fit the P90s, IMO. You could have said those were some flavor of Dimarzios or Seymour Duncans or even EMGs and I wouldn't have doubted it. P90s are better suited for mid-gain classic rock or blues rock. Regardless, you can't really argue with the price here.
Even when I want to play something more blues or classic rock, I end up sounding like 80s hair metal. Ha ha.
900
Yes you’re going to get noise because P-90’s are not humbuckers. They are single coils that sound great when you tweak your amp just right.
wish I could afford an ax effects
As usual they are currently unavailable...
I assume that it's some kind of standard when trying these links To Amazon.
I have tried at least 15 times, and at least 15 times guitars are "currently unavavailable"
All 3 colors are currently available, as in NOT sold out. If you are getting the "currently unavailable" message that's because you're in a country where they aren't sold.
A guitar from Scrote? explains the shape.
Are you sure that's a rosewood fretboard? Looks more like ebony
fojill isn't bad either same specs but alnico v humbuckers.
they have some good looking guitars but i hate the headstock shape and the name (scrote) and logo on the headstock.
Not bad for the price, but I'm old school and despise stainless steel frets. Too hard, too bright, can't easily benc/manipoulat them if the guitar develops "fret sprout." Seriously, only Carvin in the 80s and 90s had almost perfect fretboards because of the way their machinery groung the ebony fretboards. Every fretboard that is touched by human hands doesn't have a prefect radius and stainless frets are just too hard to manipulate to match the fretboard radius if slight off.
Very hard to believe it's mahogany coming in at just over five and half pounds, even if the body is on the thinner side. However even if it is vaguely like a guitar it would be hard to complain at the sub $150 price tag. Similarly doubtful about the fretboard being actual rosewood. Many of these super cheap budget guitars are using light colored wood and dyeing it or even using engineered "wood" materials for the fretboards.
The binding on the neck throws the whole guitar off. I love bound guitars but that looks waaaay out of place.
Yes I'd prefer this without the binding.
The guitar looks and sounds ok; I just don't know about the name. It's one letter a way from "grope".
😂😂😂😂😂
Sic riffage and really nice guitar for 160.
pre-recorded your playing. easy to see. your the 1st one I could tell. No matter what it should be live on a channel i mean your not the Eagles.
Apparently not easy to see 😄. The only part pre recorded is the rhythm for obvious reasons. All solos are live as seen in the video clips. You're not as eagle eyed as you think. Lol
@😂thebaldshredder
I do not own anything with a set of P-90s Yet
you wont be sorry...p90s are saweeet!
Those P90s will be cheap, ceramic powered and UNPOTTED for sure judging by the hi gain squeal lol!
Still sounded ok tho! Certainly not LIKE a $150 guitar should!
Grote is Dutch for 'great'!
Goed! \m/
I think we should make shredders play with ugly pick guards. It's unfair.
