    I want you to know that this inspired me to get my first 12/11 hammered dulcimer and learn how to play--maybe someday as well as I play bassoon.

      That's awesome. Thank you. I said the same thing, that I wanted to play the hd as well as I play piano. Thanks so much for letting me know. Keep at it.

    Oh wow! I didn't know other folks have played this piece on the dulcimer too. I learned it last summer (Bach Prelude No 1 (WTC) on hammered dulcimer). What kind of dulcimer do you have? Particularly the tuning on the low bridge that you had to redo for this piece. Thanks!

      Dusty Strings D650 is the HD. I'd have to find the paper that I wrote it on to be sure. I think from the bottom up I went. C, F, F#, G, G#, Bb, B. Basically followed what Bach did on the piano in the bass and went from there. I knew that I needed that low C for sure and that G#. Other than that I can't really remember.

      Rob- same deal! I didn't think others were crazy enough to do it... yet Ted learned it in a week! hot damn! well done both of you! (also jealous of the chromatic... I learned it on a 15/16... had to do a little creative arranging)

    He mentions "accidentals" that are apparently common in Bach's music. What are accidentals?

    • @captain_britain
      @captain_britain 2 роки тому

      To put it simply, accidentals are notes which are not part of the 7-note major or minor scale. There are 12 tones in an octave, but we often only hear 7 of them in a song―which 7 depends on which key we're in.
      This piece is a great example, since the 7 notes in C Major are C-D-E-F-G-A-B. Any "sharps" or "flats" (the black keys on the piano) would be accidentals in this context.
      The first accidental in this piece (of many) is an F sharp in the 6th chord/measure, played by Ted at 1:55. Listen to the other chords leading up to this one, and notice how it starts to pull us away from the notes our ear expects to hear.
      The word may feel a bit like a misnomer, because the use of accidental notes by classical composers like Bach was far from accidental!

      @@captain_britain Thanks for that. Yeah, I probably wouldn't consider sharps and flats accidentals either. I would imagine and expect that in most compasitions of any genre, those accidentals are very common.

    You should paint your dulcimer bright green. It probably wouldn't have much of an effect on the sound, but it would make it look more interesting. Anyway, this is good. As you said, not perfect, but I liked it.

    Do you think it would be possible to play on the Dusty Strings D600 if I retuned the bass strings?

    • @TedYoderMusic
      @TedYoderMusic  4 роки тому

      Yes it should be. You’ll have to find your way around and you may have to retune some in the right bass bridge.
