Hi everybody or anybody I’m having some trouble downloading this firmware update for my spark amp I’m getting all the way to the finish and then it’s telling me that I have to reconnect my hardware and plug it back in well on the video it says to hit yes and I did so but nothings happening I push the connect hardware but nothings happening does anybody know what I can do here. Also my other laptop I try to do it on their first but it told me I needed windows publisher is a brand new computer don’t know what’s going on there either help please

There is an important step missing from this video (at least for windows users). You _must_ hit Eject button when you are done updating or it may result in no sound on your spark. Even after a factory reset there will be no sound. If you updated your firmware and the amp doesn't work, go through the whole process again and click 'Eject' when done and it should work. It fixed mine.

I hit the eject button as it is the proper way to disconnect a USB device from Windows. Everything went flawlessly. If you have bricked your spark 40 I would attempt the update again. The USB software inside the spark may be waiting for a new connection and it says worked on other devices over the years YMMV.
Unboxed my Spark40 today, read online of the firmware update horror stories, but decided to give it a go anyways. Didn't have the USB plugged in before I started, downloaded, extracted, and installed the Spark Win drivers, plugged in the USB right before I clicked on "Finished" so the Spark could do the "USB handshake" with the desktop, then clicked "Finished", then unplugged the USB, downloaded, extracted, and launched the firmware update, plugged in the USB, the update started automatically, was prompted that the update was finished, clicked "exit" at the end, unplugged the USB, and was back to playing within 2 minutes. BTW, this is the same process how I interfaced most Korg, Roland, and DigiTech drivers, software, and instruments to my desktop. Love the Spark40!
well the firmware update site didnt tell me to install drivers first. after the update failed several times i realized it was those bluetooth connections from mz surface book tablet and phone. after making sure nothing is connected anymore, it worked flawlessly. but you should've seen my face. i saw dead people for a minute. i only had thisn gem for 2 hours and now it won't shutdown and nothing...jesus christ. But i'm happy now. :) thanks for inventing this!
That's cool to know. Mine is arriving tomorrow and I've been watching videos non stop for the spark 40. Bluetooth must be off. I have an android, and about to buy a tablet to play it. I've seen so many complaints. I'll try this when needed. I hope it works for the tablet because I'm mainly getting it so I don't have limit on time. My only has a maxed 10 minutes before screen goes blank. People are complaining that amp shuts down when the limit restraint on devices goes off.
I think one area that you fell short on is not porting the Spark software to PCs and Macs. If I want to record on my computer I will have to use not only my computer but a tablet of some kind to control the amp if I'm emulating another amp. Thanks Spark, it shouldn't be too hard for your devs to port it over to PC and Macs.
Hey thank you for this. These amps/effects are really cool, especially the Guitar Equalizer. I must admit I was looking forward to getting a pitch wham effect pedal, so I can lower my guitar in 1/2 steps. Many many tunes are written with the guitar tuned down a 1/2 step to Eb Tuning. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Thin Lizzy, Kiss have lots of songs with the guitar tuned 1/2 a step. Guns and Roses pretty much all their songs are a 1/2 step to Eb tuning. And other tuning as well. Thank you again for posting this.
If you have the money, I highly recommend getting a Digitech Drop. It does exactly what you're asking Positive Grid to implement into the Spark. I've had mine for about a year and it's the best purchase I've made when it comes to guitar accessories

I was able to set up Nashville tuning on mine where the four lowest strings an octave higher. All with the flick of a switch. Drop D, DAGDAD, open A, Blues C and other alt tunings are built in. The guitar also emulates Sitar, Banjo and various acoustic and electric guitars. The guitar is very well constructed and has two sweet humbuckers for playing standard. Can you tell I love this guitar?
I just updated the firmware yesterday. Plugged my guitar in tonight to jam out and there's another firmware update AGAIN 😂 These constant pair requests are so frustrating.
Tried updating several times one 2 different macs. Mine (which is kinda old) and a friend's (which isn't as old) and ran into the same issue on both. Does not want to connect. When I first plug it in, I see it say "connecting" but then quickly goes right be to "connect hardware". Tried restarting computers a few times along with amp. It should not be this hard to update firmware in 2022
I've had it with my spark 40 amp. I've followed the instructions to the letter. Says firmware's up to date. Bluetooth will not connect. Zero sound from the amp 😡. I know, I know, contact support and get no solution

The ASIO video on how to install the Driver is too small to read and when it is at full page it is too fuzzy to read. Are there any printed instructions? I cannot update my Positive Grid Amp!!!!!
The updater bricked my grid 40 no bluetooth and now will not pair with iPhone or iPad pro. IT got as far to say update installed then all the problems started and Just after I bought the cab as well Sucks to be me I guess :( Tried reaching out to the help desk and just my luck It's down for MAINTENANCE Wonder why?
I'm wondering why there isn't any UA-cam videos on how to repair your bricked spark amp after you've tried to update the firmware. I mean, isnt that why we're all here and not playing our guitars right now? Trying to figure out what step we missed that F'd up our amp.
I understood that iPad was one of the hardware platforms Spark Amp was made for. Just found out after 2 hours of trying that the firmware update does not work on iPad as the firmware does not launch. Sure would have been nice if this was made clear in the video.
I too got failed to update, but then I unplugged the amp from my PC and turned the amp off and then back on and then reconnected to PC and ran it again and it immediately worked. Oh yeah, DON'T FORGET TO HIT "EJECT" ON THE UPDATER BEFORE UNPLUGGING!
Very confusing ASIO video to say the least at least to me. I have watched it over and over again and I have a spark firmware updater connect hardware but I have not done the first step which is updating the windows ASIO driver. It clearly states to do this first but when you watch the ASIO Driver video in the link it’s so blurry and so fast you’re not sure what exactly you need to do. Maybe it’s just me.
Would be easier and customer happier to include an USB pendrive in the purchase, with autoinstall of all the features and software needed, and updates automatically everything without the hassle of going to different pages, menus, dowloads, etc.
Same, I have a brick now. My phone says I have updated to the most recent firmware but the amp no sound. I only had the amp for 1 day. Spent the next 2 days trying to fix it. I then emailed support and they said experiencing a lot of inbound traffic and a response will be delayed. That was nearly a week ago now but still no response. I am aware of quite a few others with the same predicament from the online forum chatter. No matter how good the product is make sure its gonna work, epic fail PG. I am going to return this pile of s**t and get a Yamaha or a Vox.
@@DayOneAdeleFans Did you download the updater? If so, then open the updater first, the spark can already be on but don’t plug it in until you have the updater open. Now plug in the spark with the usb cord provided. It should automatically recognize the spark. Going off memory, there should now be a ‘check for firmware updates’ button. Hit that. Mine only took about a minute. Watch the screen cause a window will open that says something like spark firmware is up to date but, it does not stay up for long. Then just check the version number of the new firmware to what is loaded on your spark. If both match, you’re gold.

Did exactly as instructed in video, and again.... and.... again. Each time it immediately says "firmware updating failed!" I particularly appreciate the exclamation point as an added f-you. This is on par with the performance of this garbage amp from the first time I opened the box 3 plus years ago. Problems started with the fact that it came with an ungrounded power source, which they had to replace after much delay (this was a common issue 3 or so years ago). The amp also came with a damaged pickup - which they finally replaced only after I left nasty reviews on multiple sites. Tone is fuzzy and unreliable - cutting out and inconsistent, and sometimes delayed even with a hard cable.Clean is only setting that gives a somewhat reliable tone, and only when it feels like it. Tried with multiple guitars and cables. Performance continues to deteriorate to the point where the amp is virtually unusable. Thought I'd try updating firmware to see if that helped. Ha! That anyone could give this trash a good review is a mystery to me. If you chose to buy - don't say I didn't warn you.
if we've followed all the steps and it's not detecting the hardware, what do we do then? (serial number does not show up when connecting to hardware, not sure if that is the issue...
The entire system is pretty confusing. It isn’t easy to see how the software, hardware, and firmware are supposed to work together, and the firmware update is not working and nonexistent.
I kept trying on my laptop, deleted download, re-downloaded, etc.. eventually It worked when I right clicked and selected run as administrator. I agree with all the above comments. Good luck.
I consider it a huge disappointment that the software is not available for desktop use. It is surprising because there is so much that is good about this product. Hey PG, hows' about getting off your butts and getting that done. With 250,000 units sold it's not like you don't have the capital to do it.
I run my spark thorough my android device, but I don't have a pc or Mac to update firmware. My neighbor has a Mac if I update the firmware with his Mac will that cause issues when I connect to android after update?
@@koedoe00 hey bud yeah I did...had to email them a few times but eventually they sent a n older firmware version and that sorted it out...so yeah just stay on top of them and you should be good.
I was really enjoying this product out of the box until it became unusable when the new firmware update was available. I wanted this amp for its portability and great sound, but it’s not so portable when it’s tethered to a computer and a smartphone. I’ll probably just upload a few tones I like on to the amp itself and call it a day so I don’t need to deal with patches and updates and connectivity dependencies
Spark literally finds a new way to break this amplifier every time I turn it on. I don't have a Mac or Windows computer that I can connect to an amplifier!
I downloaded the firmware and it says I am up to date. I updated the app as instructed. But where do I find the new amps? Right now I still see only the same four channels under hardware as I did before, with the same four amps. Am I not clicking on something? How to I access the new amps? Thanks

Kind of disappointing really, there are many of us these days that do not on a computer. A lot of people these days rely on smart phones and tablets. And I love at the end how he says, if it will not work then try another computer lol. If you don’t have a computer in the first place where are you supposed to get an additional computer? Lol. The positive grid mini guitar head is updatable through the app right from your smart phone. Why isn’t this?
0:06 There is no list anywhere of what performance improvements or new features are included in any firmware updates. There is no point in updating it.
I reached out to the help desk and all they did was send me a copy of this video. I watched this video 20 times, before I updated the spark 40 firmware, And took notes. then today I went and tried to update the spark 40. Now my amplifier does not work at all. When I reached out to your customer service department all they did was send me a copy of this video that I was watching for 2 days before I tried the firmware update. Like I said I watched this video 20 times and took notes. Now my amp does not work. Do you have a customer service phone number? Did I lose my amp for good? Myspark 40-amp worked great before I follow the instructions on this video. Now my amp just makes a loud humming sound. Do you have any actual real customer service over-the-phone live?
The update on Windows 10 is not successful and all the red leds flash and the amp no longer emits any sound! How to solve the problem? Now I just have an unusable black box!
For me, removing the Bluetooth device pair from phone, restarting the app and then pairing again with connect request seemed to fix this. But it was pretty confusing because at first it really seemed that firmware upgrade completely bricked the sound output.
Start up the updater again, connect your amp to PC, check for updates again and once it says you're up to date, press EJECT. The last part is the key. Your amp should work now.
This is perfect! I now have a worthless Spark Amp to go along with my worthless Gibson Robot Guitar LP! I couldn’t have done better if I would’ve tried.
Got the amp today after 3 month wait. Firmware update has stopped any sound coming out. Have tried numerous times, all saying they were successful, and with 3 different computers...still nothing. Not happy. Terrible customer experience. Have lodged ticket with support...not holding my breath for a successful outcome.
Think twice before doing it! My amp just not working after the successful update by windows 11. Installed the driver, ran the update with success and...now can't connect to it, the computer does not recognize it anymore after the update and also can't reset it by power on + TAP as in the instructions. Already opened a ticket to support and praying 😢
I am very disappointed, I tried today to update the firmware and I regret having doing that, I followed the prompt, i tried two different computer nothing worked, now the unit is flashing i cannot factory reset it doesn't work no response from positive grid only pre made response that re direct you to the online troubleshooting, if anyone can help i would really appreciate.
My son and I updated his and now there is no sound except through Bluetooth and only a huge hiss/buzz. The whole unit is completely useless as an amp, it is only 8 months old.

I paid $240.99 for an amp that sounds good. But all the other features are useless without literally using trash looping commercial style, log in identity subscription thumbprint eyescanner just for it to function. Because a 1/4 jack output is a cold move by gridspark if I could've gotten a mod pedal and kept my Marshall stack.
Some of use that have been playing for a very long time are use to plugging in and playing. That is what we like the hell out of doing. I thought this might be a way to cut down a little on moving some equipment for small venues. Also most of the things I’ve about the Spark said you have all you need on your phone or tablet. I purchased the Jimi Hendrix package to find out I could not use it until I updated the firmware through my computer. I say BULL SHIT TO THAT! I all but threw my computer away after retiring. I had no idea I would have to do all of this crap when I purchased it. My fault for thinking this thing might be pretty cool if they still say that these days. I guess I will turn the Spark on end and use it to set my ice cold beer on while I plug my Strat. Into my Marshal and play to some good old Zeppelin backing tracks.
Mine’s bricked after a software update failed. Reached out to positive grid today and waiting for a response. This is my 2nd amp because i had the first one replaced for a hardware defect and the retailer here at my country said they wont change the amp anymore if I broke the second one. I hope positive grid fixes this shit. Its a great amp but shit software and aftermarket support
I will post a much better flowing video with start to finish then get into troubleshooting. He starting blabbing about if something goes wrong and apple will not allow to d- load it right out of thin air.

I bought the Spark Mini and couldn't wait to get going. So disappointed that the update process is so complicated and didn't work on my Windows 10 PC. Why on earth are you selling great products like this with such a complicated, clunky, unhelpful and poor update process? The advice of "try another PC" is shameful. I have one windows laptop and my friend has one. We tried both. Both failed, same error -2. I can't afford to buy a brand new PC hoping this will update the Amp. Looking at forums this is quite a common problem. I'm really quite disappointed and frustrated with the whole experience. I read so much about the Amp, the software and how I thought it would enhance my experience. I'm returning this Amp for a refund and will continue with my tried and trusty Marshall, effects board and so on. Anyone thinking of buying one beware. I think the whole updating process is very hot or miss. To sum up it looks like a great product when and if it works.

Same problem here. The advice seems to be keep trying different computers until it works.

My computer connects to the spark but as soon as I click update it says update failed. This thing is headed back to Sweetwater.

Ya it's sounding messy I haven't even begun to start and I'm afraid I'm years behind. I just haven't been using the app 😅
Updated my iPhone but now it says update your firmware for the amps and pedals to work.Only got a chromebook so I’m hoping that will do it ?
All 4 lights flashing and the tap light flashing no sound from amp what can I do?

Same, I have a brick now. My phone says I have updated to the most recent firmware but the amp no sound. I only had the amp for 1 day. Spent the next 2 days trying to fix it. I then emailed support and they said experiencing a lot of inbound traffic and a response will be delayed. That was nearly a week ago now but still no response. I am aware of quite a few others with the same predicament from the online forum chatter. No matter how good the product is make sure its gonna work, epic fail PG. I am going to return this pile of s**t and get a Yamaha or a Vox.

Finally got around to updating my Spark’s firmware. Went off without a hitch. I love having a Mac. No driver needed.
Please help, it just sits there and does nothing. Any tips? Also a Mac user. Thank you!
@@DayOneAdeleFans Did you download the updater? If so, then open the updater first, the spark can already be on but don’t plug it in until you have the updater open. Now plug in the spark with the usb cord provided. It should automatically recognize the spark. Going off memory, there should now be a ‘check for firmware updates’ button. Hit that. Mine only took about a minute. Watch the screen cause a window will open that says something like spark firmware is up to date but, it does not stay up for long. Then just check the version number of the new firmware to what is loaded on your spark. If both match, you’re gold.

Did exactly as instructed in video, and again.... and.... again. Each time it immediately says "firmware updating failed!" I particularly appreciate the exclamation point as an added f-you. This is on par with the performance of this garbage amp from the first time I opened the box 3 plus years ago. Problems started with the fact that it came with an ungrounded power source, which they had to replace after much delay (this was a common issue 3 or so years ago). The amp also came with a damaged pickup - which they finally replaced only after I left nasty reviews on multiple sites. Tone is fuzzy and unreliable - cutting out and inconsistent, and sometimes delayed even with a hard cable.Clean is only setting that gives a somewhat reliable tone, and only when it feels like it. Tried with multiple guitars and cables. Performance continues to deteriorate to the point where the amp is virtually unusable. Thought I'd try updating firmware to see if that helped. Ha! That anyone could give this trash a good review is a mystery to me. If you chose to buy - don't say I didn't warn you.
I updated my firmware and I don’t have the EQ for guitar or bass but I do have the clone pedal and the other amplifier. Why is that?

The entire system is pretty confusing. It isn’t easy to see how the software, hardware, and firmware are supposed to work together, and the firmware update is not working and nonexistent.

I kept trying on my laptop, deleted download, re-downloaded, etc.. eventually It worked when I right clicked and selected run as administrator. I agree with all the above comments. Good luck.

I consider it a huge disappointment that the software is not available for desktop use. It is surprising because there is so much that is good about this product. Hey PG, hows' about getting off your butts and getting that done. With 250,000 units sold it's not like you don't have the capital to do it.

I run my spark thorough my android device, but I don't have a pc or Mac to update firmware. My neighbor has a Mac if I update the firmware with his Mac will that cause issues when I connect to android after update?
That shouldn’t cause an issue. As long as they don’t mind you installing the updater software on their Mac.
crap. I ended up getting rid of the first preset trying to do step one. Now I have 2 crunch. I wish I'd have skipped that step.
Also, the company should consider spending a few dollars to hire actual human beings to do customer service via telephone

@@koedoe00 hey bud yeah I did...had to email them a few times but eventually they sent a n older firmware version and that sorted it out...so yeah just stay on top of them and you should be good.

I was really enjoying this product out of the box until it became unusable when the new firmware update was available. I wanted this amp for its portability and great sound, but it’s not so portable when it’s tethered to a computer and a smartphone. I’ll probably just upload a few tones I like on to the amp itself and call it a day so I don’t need to deal with patches and updates and connectivity dependencies
Spark literally finds a new way to break this amplifier every time I turn it on. I don't have a Mac or Windows computer that I can connect to an amplifier!

I downloaded the firmware and it says I am up to date. I updated the app as instructed. But where do I find the new amps? Right now I still see only the same four channels under hardware as I did before, with the same four amps. Am I not clicking on something? How to I access the new amps? Thanks

@@koedoe00 it happened to be a faulty USB cable. Changed the cable and run the update again fixed it for me.

@@עומרשמיר-פ3כ I had to plug it in to my laptop again and load up the updating software program and do the check for update run again. As soon as I did that it started working again! Weird tho

Kind of disappointing really, there are many of us these days that do not on a computer. A lot of people these days rely on smart phones and tablets. And I love at the end how he says, if it will not work then try another computer lol. If you don’t have a computer in the first place where are you supposed to get an additional computer? Lol. The positive grid mini guitar head is updatable through the app right from your smart phone. Why isn’t this?

I reached out to the help desk and all they did was send me a copy of this video. I watched this video 20 times, before I updated the spark 40 firmware, And took notes. then today I went and tried to update the spark 40. Now my amplifier does not work at all. When I reached out to your customer service department all they did was send me a copy of this video that I was watching for 2 days before I tried the firmware update. Like I said I watched this video 20 times and took notes. Now my amp does not work. Do you have a customer service phone number? Did I lose my amp for good? Myspark 40-amp worked great before I follow the instructions on this video. Now my amp just makes a loud humming sound. Do you have any actual real customer service over-the-phone live?
The update on Windows 10 is not successful and all the red leds flash and the amp no longer emits any sound! How to solve the problem? Now I just have an unusable black box!

Same here. Update went perfectly now no audio out of the amp’s speakers. Guitar or Bluetooth audio.
For me, removing the Bluetooth device pair from phone, restarting the app and then pairing again with connect request seemed to fix this. But it was pretty confusing because at first it really seemed that firmware upgrade completely bricked the sound output.
Start up the updater again, connect your amp to PC, check for updates again and once it says you're up to date, press EJECT. The last part is the key. Your amp should work now.

Got the amp today after 3 month wait. Firmware update has stopped any sound coming out. Have tried numerous times, all saying they were successful, and with 3 different computers...still nothing. Not happy. Terrible customer experience. Have lodged ticket with support...not holding my breath for a successful outcome.

When you go to the updater page, close to the top, there is a blue ‘Windows’ and ‘Mac”. Click on the Mac.
Think twice before doing it! My amp just not working after the successful update by windows 11. Installed the driver, ran the update with success and...now can't connect to it, the computer does not recognize it anymore after the update and also can't reset it by power on + TAP as in the instructions. Already opened a ticket to support and praying 😢
I am very disappointed, I tried today to update the firmware and I regret having doing that, I followed the prompt, i tried two different computer nothing worked, now the unit is flashing i cannot factory reset it doesn't work no response from positive grid only pre made response that re direct you to the online troubleshooting, if anyone can help i would really appreciate.

My son and I updated his and now there is no sound except through Bluetooth and only a huge hiss/buzz. The whole unit is completely useless as an amp, it is only 8 months old.

This is a huge pain in the ass...the firmware link ONLY leads to the tutorial
I paid $240.99 for an amp that sounds good. But all the other features are useless without literally using trash looping commercial style, log in identity subscription thumbprint eyescanner just for it to function. Because a 1/4 jack output is a cold move by gridspark if I could've gotten a mod pedal and kept my Marshall stack.
Just a quick note :
Windows 10 S will not allow the update...you must switch out to 10 or 11 before you can update !!!!!

Some of use that have been playing for a very long time are use to plugging in and playing. That is what we like the hell out of doing. I thought this might be a way to cut down a little on moving some equipment for small venues. Also most of the things I’ve about the Spark said you have all you need on your phone or tablet. I purchased the Jimi Hendrix package to find out I could not use it until I updated the firmware through my computer. I say BULL SHIT TO THAT! I all but threw my computer away after retiring. I had no idea I would have to do all of this crap when I purchased it. My fault for thinking this thing might be pretty cool if they still say that these days. I guess I will turn the Spark on end and use it to set my ice cold beer on while I plug my Strat. Into my Marshal and play to some good old Zeppelin backing tracks.

Mine’s bricked after a software update failed. Reached out to positive grid today and waiting for a response. This is my 2nd amp because i had the first one replaced for a hardware defect and the retailer here at my country said they wont change the amp anymore if I broke the second one. I hope positive grid fixes this shit. Its a great amp but shit software and aftermarket support

I bought the Spark Mini and couldn't wait to get going. So disappointed that the update process is so complicated and didn't work on my Windows 10 PC.
Why on earth are you selling great products like this with such a complicated, clunky, unhelpful and poor update process?
The advice of "try another PC" is shameful. I have one windows laptop and my friend has one. We tried both. Both failed, same error -2.
I can't afford to buy a brand new PC hoping this will update the Amp.
Looking at forums this is quite a common problem. I'm really quite disappointed and frustrated with the whole experience. I read so much about the Amp, the software and how I thought it would enhance my experience.
I'm returning this Amp for a refund and will continue with my tried and trusty Marshall, effects board and so on.
Anyone thinking of buying one beware. I think the whole updating process is very hot or miss.
To sum up it looks like a great product when and if it works.
