The only issue is that some big names have left for fb, but twitch doesn't seem to care. Twitch is at that point of "our competition will die out, we're fine. Keep supporting and defending the ehoes, staff!"
Forsen explained it well, people leaving twitch doesn't do shit because they might seem huge to the viewer, but they're a fraction of a huge platform which is a micro-fraction of amazon, so they just don't matter enough
Part of the problem is Twitch just comes out of nowhere with this shit with no input from the community. They could have said, "we're thinking about banning the terms simps and incel for these reasons. What do you guys think?" Of course, the reason they don't is because they don't actually care what their community thinks or wants.
They get away with it because there isn't enough healthy competition in the streaming sector (main reasons are because viewers want all their favourite streamers in one place, streamers are scared to make the jump to other platforms and because the platforms are shit + missing the incentives/features twitch has like the chat everyone is used to or twitch primes). This means viewers and streamers are kind of stuck on this platform which we're all starting to hate... So they only really need to worry about what the advertising companies want, which is cookie cutter streamers that have no risk attached to them. I pray every day for a good streaming platform to come along and destroy this god awful platform... You listening asmon+otk?!
If twitch said that, no one would take it seriously and they'd just say BOOOO. twitch could do a poll on wether people should be allowed to say the N word and lets be honest here, these pepegas in chat, we know what they're going to vote
@@michael_177 The point isn't to hold a vote for people to vote for Boaty McBoatface but for Twitch to at least pretend to listen to the people who actually pay them. Instead, Twitch makes it increasingly clear that they hold the majority of their base in contempt and couldn't care less what we think.
I stopped watching twitch 2 years ago when the pre-roll ads got too aggressive. Tried to get into it again but i was faced with even more pre-roll ads aswell ad tripple and quad ads randomly in the stream. I'm not gonna be interrupted with 3 minutes of ads when im just trying to watch a stream. Fuck that and fuck twitch
Your suggestion for making generalized rules and then doing individual judgments seems good, but that assumes they want our best interest as streamers. It still doesn't work for twitch because it gives people the premise that their conclusion can now be ruled on subsequent cases, similarly to how laws are made by court case rulings now (roe v wade etc.) instead of allowing twitch to just ban whoever the hell they want. At the end of the day thats more work for twitch and less control they have and we are just their bitches to gain profit off of. They don't care about their community, they just care that advertisers like their community. The problem with this is when advertisers are lobbying for social issues that are quite questionable.
It falls down to a question that every streamer and service provider (twitch) must ask. Are the community more important or is maximising revenue more important? You can make money and still care about a community, but twitch (and to a certain degree, streamers) have proven on my occasions that their community and their service doesn't mean anything and is just designed to make money on a "family-friendly" scale to please the advertisers and to piss off the people who use the service
Exactly. I respect Zach's opinion but he has way too much faith in Twitch to do the right thing when in the past they have consistently made poor choices. Mods would have even more grey area wiggle room to choose if you broke the rule or not and just ban you.
Especially with the Doc situation, I don't believe anybody knows why, sure he may know and he's not obligated to tell but Twitch could have still said something, especially with a perma ban like that
He came out and said he is going to sue twitch because they refuse to give him an answer and it's extremely suspect that he is banned and then they used that money to secure ninja and shroud again.
@@kylegraham4252 yea and doc would have been an investment they would have given the green light too. He brought a large amount of eyes. I dont see how it made business sense to drop him unless there was a larger issue behind it.
Unfortunately the law doesn't care about context much of the time either with people facing prosecution over jokes so it's not surprising Twitch follow the same logic
Imagine intentionally obstructing the viewer experience with ads in the livestream. which is one reason why I think youtube might overtake twitch in the future, for now it's easier to find streamers on twitch and the chat ui is also better. I wonder how long that will last as a reason to continue go on Twitch.
One of the biggest problems with twitch is that their ToS is a moving target. They can ban users for whatever they want because of how their ToS are worded. Blatant favoritism regarding bans, and who is enforcing the bans. Such as that WoW guy who got banned for wearing a wife beater and shorts. Yet the girl who spread her asscheeks gets 3 days. I thought twitch was on a down turn but their viewership is, in-fact, up. Unless they see a downturn in viewership, and ultimately precious adrevenue, things are likely not to change.
What happens when people just use a new phrase, especially one already deeply rooted and established? IE, medical ICU - intensive care unit. What if people start saying, I hate the ICUs (Incelibate-Complainer-Units) and basically say the same shit anyway? A better example will probably be used instead, but u get what I'm saying. How does the quote go? "Political correctness is just fascism with manners." My biggest true.
The shittiest thing about pre-roll ads is when a friend says "OMG check out what is doing quick quick!" and you get a minute of ads and miss the moment. Twitch has been going downhill for the last 12 months (minimum). I'm glad I stopped streaming before the lockdown because shit seems to be going further down the shit tube with them and their "policies". Thanks for bringing further light to the topic Asmon.
I don't understand why these tech companies that claim to be innovators are still pushing the archaic ad break model. There are so many ways to advertise a product on a live stream that lasts hours and a live chat, but they go for the laziest form.
I've stopped watching Twitch a little while ago for the following reasons; - Their lack of consistency with bans (i.e. Alinity's titslip = ok, someone browsing twitter and pic flashed for half a second = ban). They seemed to show clear favoritism in multiple cases and it annoys me. - Their clear push for T2 and T3 subs which brings 0 value; instead of adding cool stuff to motivate you, they nerfed T1 channel points and let the streamers paywall a couple emotes. - Their intrusive ad policies, they clearly doesn't seem to care about my experience as a viewer. - Weird decisions like pursuing the safety council with the same members even with a huge backlash from the community about one of their members who was on a clear powertrip. I mean if they don't value me, my experience or the person I'm viewing, why the fuck would I stay there. UA-cam has its own problems, but it's much less irritating.
I stopped going to twitch ever since they had the idea of making a Safety Advisory Council. Doesn't look like I'll be clicking that link any time soon.
I'm still perplexed as to why Twitch has not overhauled how they do ads on the site. There are multitudes of ways to make ads less intrusive on the viewer experience. Quick example: you go to Pinterest; there is an ad every page. The ads on there are silent and use text, essentially, in place of audio. You can have an ad like that pop-up in the corner of the stream. You could move ads to play above the chat. You can have banner ads. All of these do not intrude on the experience as significantly as taking up the entire stream. Even sports programs know not to interrupt the action with commercials. They'll do banner ads, or PIP during moments of inaction. Instead, Twitch takes the cue to INCREASE the intrusion of ads -- mainly as a middle-finger to people trying to bypass it, which wouldn't be as big of an issue if they changed how they presented ads!
@@beng6149 no characters .. he said that multiple times, he is just more active on his main stream. Thats why he call his stream more of a show than a stream :)
When Twitch banned Voyboy that was my final wake up call. Like that guy is the most wholesome person in a game full of toxic ragers and he gets the ban? yeah id follow people to w/e streaming site at this point.
The issue I've always had with Twitch was that it represents a very specific class or group of people. Twitch has never taken a neutral stance with social issues, they make their opinion very well known and act upon it without warning or communication. Their lack of community leadership or representation is bad but I think they fail to understand how much they alienate their core customers by taking a one-sided stance on a lot of stuff.
Its because of where there sponsors and money comes from just that place, its the same with youtube, and almost all media out there, you get big enough thats whats going to happen.
Maybe youtube could overthrow twitch, Google probably has the resources to do it if they wanted to improve it by like giving it a better ui and maybe a desktop app
I would switch to UA-cam but for some reason I'm never able to find other streamers on the same platform unless I already have their channel subscribed from their videos. Does someone have a guide or video on how to setup and start streaming on UA-cam because that'd be something I'd be interested in checking out.
I really love how asmon can go a whole video without a single cut, its really nice to see someone who can actually speak their thoughts without jump cutting every 2 seconds.
Genuinely the most mature video (including intro and outro) I’ve seen from asmon. High quality content and very enjoyable. Would love to see some more of these types of videos.
I agree with a lot of the issues but Zack doesn't seem to realize companies. At one point (somewhere in the middle) he mentions that if the service to the end user diminishes then the end user will also diminish and then at 21:50 he mentions Twitch sanitizing the web site from everything that made it special because people will leave.. There are many examples where this isn't true and other examples where it's partly true, but what they do is get less viewers but more money from adds, sponsors etc. When cable TV first came they said "pay us and you will see no commericals". It was the core of the service for cable. After a while they started showing commercials anyway and the end user is still there.. Facebook changed, youtube changed, a lot of companies changed, a lot of companies changed for the worse for the end user, but the end user is still there.
Twitch is alienating the user base. The last three days I've been on twitch, I've got eleven 30 second ads in a row. Who the fuck wants to watch 3 1/2 minutes worth of ads in the middle of a live stream? I can understand maybe three 30 second ads, but eleven? That's insane and literally makes me just close the site. I can't imagine it being any different for others who get the same shit.
The fact we're moving further away from contextual factors being important, not just regarding Twitch, but seemingly many public-facing companies is terrifying for the future :/. It'll get worse before it gets better I feel
Possession is nine-tenths of the law is an expression meaning that ownership is easier to maintain if one has possession of something, or difficult to enforce if one does not.
Reminds me of when I was permanently banned after I watched some random popular channel, wrote something in chat and someone had some spambot running that made a hundred links appear instantly after I hit enter. I was completely blocked off and couldn't even open up streams. After writing a lengthy letter detailing what had happened and almost 2 weeks, my account was restored randomly - no notification and no apology from Twitch. Note: I had NEVER violated any TOS prior to that incident (for the 6+ years my account had existed) and had been a continuous subscriber of a streamer for over 4 years and THIS was their f***ing reaction, just instant perma-ban. After that I unsubscribed from everyone I still had subbed to, those MFers at Twitch HQ don't deserve a single cent. I'd rather just donate directly or buy merchandise of content creators. That was over a year ago, these days I rarely watch Twitch for that same reason and I would love if another platform came along. I'm sad Mixer didn't work out although it was expected to fail, but hopefully Twitch keeps f***ing up more and they start losing their popularity.
Completely agree with the bit about quarterly financial reports. Toyota is an incredibly competitive automotive company precisely because they invested in their business for the long haul and not short term performance.
3:06 Destiny said this on a scuffed podcast like a year ago or something, but twitch should allow streamers to shadowban people. Ban someone and they don't even know their dumbass message isn't visible to others.
Shadow banning is worse in my opinion. Imagine never finding out that you're not talking to anyone and no one is hearing you. Basically the worst form of censorship that can get out of hand extremely fast and at a certain point people will find out and it will make people more furious than if they just didn't get banned. Happened to me. I liked this Japanese vtuber and she always responded to my super chats but whenever I left a comment in the archive I noticed every comment was getting a heart except mine. I logged off and noticed none of my comments were visible to the public. Then I noticed that there was no other comments in English. I came to the conclusion that the streamer was shadow banning everyone who didn't speak Japanese. I always thought it was weird how I* only saw a few dozen of the same people writing in Japanese even though she usually had thousands of viewers in chat. The other foreigners in chat probably had no idea that they were talking to no one
As a web developer, I don’t understand how Twitch can create such a dynamic platform but yet not get this under control. It boils down to simple ‘if-else’ statements that would immediately ban someone who goes against their guidelines. There doesn’t need to be reviewing or clarification when programmed correctly. They could simply develop a system that sees vulgar content , whether this be video or text, that they list in their guidelines and banning the stream instantly or for less severe cases, suspending the person. That way people are aware of the policy and there isn’t any miscommunication on bans or leniency when any user, streamer or viewer, goes against it.
simp tv is probably gonna die soon or sometime in the future since twitch isnt doing really anything to please their streamers or their partners some of their practices are genuinely disgusting
The ads really ruined the content for me especially when it's not just one ad when it's 3 and sometimes 8 ads like what the heck.. really??? I don't mind when streamers do it when they AFK or at the end of the stream. I'm there to look at the stream, not 20 minutes of ads, at this point as soon as ads come up I exit out of the stream and it makes me kind of sad.

As much as I enjoy twitch, I want to see some big streamers leave the platform, that is the only way that this shit can be solved.
Twitch is going to implode at this rate.
The only issue is that some big names have left for fb, but twitch doesn't seem to care.
Twitch is at that point of "our competition will die out, we're fine. Keep supporting and defending the ehoes, staff!"
And the platform has to be good. Look at what happened to mixer
Forsen explained it well, people leaving twitch doesn't do shit because they might seem huge to the viewer, but they're a fraction of a huge platform which is a micro-fraction of amazon, so they just don't matter enough
A big streamer leaves and new streamers take their place.
Twitch started walking the wrong direction ever since it allowed IRL
Since sjw amazon bought it.
Yes! Now e thots and por stars plague the platform. It's slowly going to shit. I hope.

"no communication" - We still don't really know what happened with Dr.D right?
Nop
Part of the problem is Twitch just comes out of nowhere with this shit with no input from the community. They could have said, "we're thinking about banning the terms simps and incel for these reasons. What do you guys think?" Of course, the reason they don't is because they don't actually care what their community thinks or wants.
can say the same thing about UA-cam as well not communicating with people who are small independent creators,
They get away with it because there isn't enough healthy competition in the streaming sector (main reasons are because viewers want all their favourite streamers in one place, streamers are scared to make the jump to other platforms and because the platforms are shit + missing the incentives/features twitch has like the chat everyone is used to or twitch primes).
@@blazed_sins9192 try trovo or dlive. Youre welcome.
It's the Budget sindrener ;p

Especially with the Doc situation, I don't believe anybody knows why, sure he may know and he's not obligated to tell but Twitch could have still said something, especially with a perma ban like that
Yeah fuck twitch if asmon ever gets banned like that I hope all streamers rise up and back him also I'll follow him to UA-cam or where ever Zach goes
He came out and said he is going to sue twitch because they refuse to give him an answer and it's extremely suspect that he is banned and then they used that money to secure ninja and shroud again.
@@pinksnowpeach so your belief is that twitch (owned by the richest man in the world) couldnt afford all three?
@@alexchat3020 Twitch still has to stand on it's own 2 legs. Corporations don't generally operate by an owner simply funneling money into them.

Imagine intentionally obstructing the viewer experience with ads in the livestream. which is one reason why I think youtube might overtake twitch in the future, for now it's easier to find streamers on twitch and the chat ui is also better. I wonder how long that will last as a reason to continue go on Twitch.
Try using twitch mobile or Xtra mobile it got 0 ads that I can 100% confirm since I am using it on watching Asmon's streams.
Get ad block please.
Use pi-hole.net/ and no more ads anywhere :-)
I use xtra app on mobile and i get 0 ads. On PC i get ads even with AdBlock on tho
I SIMPly used my IN-CELL-phone app to pay for my extra-VIRGIN-olive-oil.

There are so many ways to advertise a product on a live stream that lasts hours and a live chat, but they go for the laziest form.
give an example
I've stopped watching Twitch a little while ago for the following reasons;
- Their lack of consistency with bans (i.e.

I like Asmon/Zack... He's an entertaining guy
This is Zack. Asmon is a character he plays on Stream.

What did you expect?
Its because of where there sponsors and money comes from just that place, its the same with youtube, and almost all media out there, you get big enough thats whats going to happen.

Twitch gave streaming to youtube when they banned DOC
Truth
Who?
The Twitch employee skipping the video to the end to hear a summary and getting "Good system Twitch, really proud of you, keep it up guys"
The saying is "possession is 9/10ths of the law" not intent
That's true, but the statement "intent is 9/10th of the law" is more accurate. So who cares.

All I associate streaming with these days is harassment, banning/suspensions, and "$10k/month"
When Asmon talks about a subject, he talks about it with such passion. Its really warming to listen too.
Hey zack, hope you're happy and have a good new year.
Possession is nine-tenths of the law is an expression meaning that ownership is easier to maintain if one has possession of something, or difficult to enforce if one does not.
Remember when change the channel or turn off the stream was the appropriate response to these people. You don't have a right to not be offended.
Should of brought up doc, dude got banned for no reason

I legit am terrified of ever going on Twitch. Horrified in fact. In their efforts to make it a "safe space" it feels ANYTHING BUT.

Completely agree with the bit about quarterly financial reports. Toyota is an incredibly competitive automotive company precisely because they invested in their business for the long haul and not short term performance.
Twitch tends to lead in cultural trends, as the culture moves more and more PC, twitch will be the embodiment of PC culture.

Anyone else notice the screw sticking out top left and now cant focus on anything else........ dammit!
I've not been on twitch for over a month now thanks to the Ads. It has ruined completely the joy twitch used to give

My favorite clown show is my country’s political system! Twitch takes a close second tho
