  • Well I had access to 2 records that were fairly scratched and broken. I didn't have a newer recorder to hear what that would sound like. Also record player pickups are normally magnetic but I am using a piezo disc.

This is amazing, now I finally know what to do with my dead hard drives. Thank you.

I'm impressed by the sound -- the Piezo preamp you used seems to get plenty of bass (well, "bass") out of the disc. Great job, the lo-fi handmade quality is fantastic. Also I LOL'ed when you broke your furniture apart. I've been there :D

I've tried this before by jamming a thin needle into the microphone of a headset, It was very loud and not pratical.
*And this is why im getting a suitcase Victrola record player.*
Edit: Just got the record player, Amazing quality.

Very clever! But I feel so bad about the grooves of that record being cut by that pin... 😢

This sounds suprisingly good, You certianly wouldn't expect that from a hard drive! Say, Do you think you could try the Piezo Crystal pickup on a real turntable? I bet that would sound pretty good at a consistent speed; I hear some of the first ever electric pickups were made almost exactly like that. Great Job, Keep It Up!

The vinyl itself was quite scratched already. So perhaps I should test with a good vinyl

@@AfrorackYou should try this again with a 78 RPM Victor record, I heard it had 3 mil grooves.

Nice job! My only critique would be to get a real stylus. Surely a cheapie stylus can be attached to the piezo disc. Again Good job!

Really great work. My question is about what device did you get from, the sound -- the Piezo, is it loud from a microphone or where can I get one? Your experience has inspired me a lot, Mr. Truly an inspiring experience. I really appreciate the value of that. I am waiting for your response. Best regards.

I was thinking: Drum echo, magnetic drum echo. Like tapedelay but with magnetic drums? You know? I'd love to see you DIY that. ( in eurorackformat??)
All you need is the round magnetic thingy and tapeheads + motor..
This recordplayer could allso play.. Non-vinyl objects, I thought. Like.. A Rock? Leaf? Sand? Envelope follower for the signal in synth path. ?
    Anyways, inspirational! 💛

@@Afrorack I find this quite upsetting. When I saw the name on instagram, I thought "oh wow this must be the guy who built the first African Modular." Yet this didn't seem to be the case. They should not be able to take donations based on your name or work in the synthesizer community. Perhaps partner with them? Otherwise they are making money with no clear process of how it's spent based off your name and work. Afrorack is African, not American.
