What a beautiful movie, composed with mental illness, letting go, and sacrificing love for a father’s compassion. Tears are rolling down my face bc mental illness denies one’s chance being normal. A golden movies.
This is exactly what marriage vows are for. When people say "for better or for worse," they really only mean "for better." 😔 Heartbreaking. Everything about this movie is disturbing...the treatment of the father and then the treatment of the daughter's fiancee. How you might behave if you have zero ability to empathize with other human beings.
It strikes me differently. Meg was prepared to fulfill her vow for worse, denying her own deepest desire exactly out of empathy for her husband. And his empathy for her allowed him to realize that to truly love her and want her happiness he would have to give her up. Sidney's empathy for Kit, understanding how much he wanted children and she as well, knew it would be torture to be together and faced with the agony of denying their profound desire for children in order to guard against the tragedy of passing on the horribly burdensome legacy of mental illness.

a very beautiful movie. simple and clean.
I love the 1930 movie version more than that of the 1940s. The acting is so phenomenal and it brought so much tears. Nice one to watch for sure
This is Katharine Hepburn's debut in the world of cinema, light as a feather and sharp as a whip!
Great movie thanks for posting
