As a struggling artist, I can tell you that Artist’s Loft is the BEST of the cheaper paints. I love it because I can get nice metallics and variation of regular colors without breaking the bank. Yes, the can be a little thin, but a couple of layers gives you beautiful coverage.
Especially their oil paints. I bought mine 7 years ago when i was in school but if they are still the same formula, then they are amazing and my absolute favorite affordable oil paint
I can honestly say ... I don't think "Britney" got to choose those paints ... Her body guards are the ones who run out to get her everything she needs. I really enjoyed this concept & idea. Really enjoyed this - Thanks !
I'm a color pencil artist and I have to say, comparing an oil based pencil like Lyra to a wax based pencil like Prisma or Luminance is not going to be fair game. Lyra, just like Polychromos, work best when layered. If you press down on the tooth of the paper like that, the lead being harder, is definitely not going to allow too many layers. You need light strokes on the paper and patience, their formula is so, so different than that of the prismacolors. Also, they are very lightfast and they also have a complementary range of watercolour pencils.
exactly!! i haven’t used colored pencils in forever but isn’t layering THE way to go about it regardless of the formula? at least that’s what i was taught in art class and had to unlearn myself since i’m very heavy handed and would get called out on it all the time, seeing pencils tearing into the paper mushing the fibers still makes me kinda iffy
To be honest, here in Europe (specifically talking about my home country now, which is Poland) Lyra isn't that much a fancy brand as Faber Castell or even Koh-I-Noor. I remember having Lyra crayons as a 5-6 yo and they were actually stunningly pigmented and pretty, but they were also cheap. I'm sure they were cheaper than Koh-I-Noor, and waaay cheaper than F-C. And, what's probably a lil weird thing to say, they smelled amazing 🤣
@@summer_.butterflies2518 that's probably because of taxes and shipping and stuff. Germany is our nearest neighbor, so we've got way easier access to their art supplies XD In our country you can get 32 colours of these for about 15 dollars, while Koh-I-Noor's Polycolor are about 20 dollars for 24 colours (as someone already mentioned that, but in Polish). Besides, I think Lyra isn't overall very popular in the States so they're not trying really hard to make it more accessible there, as they'd have to compete with Crayola or Prismacolor.
As someone who grew up in Italy, I want to send her some Giotto pencils so badly. We all grew up with that stuff (and some look a lot like those). They seem pretty decent and they all have the pigment names on them.
@@larizzo that would be quite interesting I think, if some people from her community that can afford it could send her some local art supplies so that she could have fun with it!
I imagine Britney Spears said to her assistant: "I want to make art. Go to the store and bring back a canvas, a brush and some water color paint." And the assistant simply grabbed the first box of water color in the aisle, with no regard to brand or price.
Weren't all purchases approved by the conservator or whatever? So, they deliberately bought her the cheapest art supplies they could find...and probably called it "art therapy" 🙄
✨Jelly Kelly✨ You can 100% use watercolor on canvas. Now are you supposed to? We’re they design for canvas? Probably not. However art is about fucking around and seeing what can be done
@@alexandramcginnis8872 you actually can't use water colours on canvas if you haven't prepped the canvas beforehand. The colours would not stick to it. I am a water colour artist and I work on canvas. Sometimes I forget my base around the edges and the colour is just running from that spot.

This was such a fun and interesting video! I’d love to see part 2! Lyra Pencils are oil-based, whereas the Caran D’Ache and Prismacolor are wax-based. They are actually quite good pencils (although not up there with Caran D’Ache), but they aren’t for everyone. They won’t have that buttery blend and they require a different technique. Probably a better comparison to something like Faber-Castell Polychromos, but not nearly as nice.

7:08 I have bought this set from Aliexpress and it was more than great but in a year or so the colors cracked and the colors changed- one of the darker browns became burgundy red.
I wouldn't trust Aliexpress or Wish for art supplies--believe it or not, there are fakes out there. Often they are cheaper than more traditional sites, but sometimes you can pay a lot for counterfeit pencils and paints.
Rae we desperately need a part 2! This was such a good video and I’m sure there’s so many other celebrities you can do and maybe even recreate their art as well!
I am just starting to watch this video but I also love Britney, can't help but think her dad is why she is using the generic paint. 😡 I didn't realize Britney did art and I love it! My absolute top favorite celebrity is Johnny depp, I just found out he also paints and his work is amazing I am obsessed 😍.
I KNEW the second I heard Halsey that it was going to be a banger. Halsey does a ton of art and it always looks gorgeous, so I'm not surprised they know what they're doing as far as supplies go.
The thing to remember about Britny is that yes she is worth millions but until a few months ago she wasn't able to access any of it. her dad had full control over her money. if she had to take him to court and actually fight for the right to her actual money, I'm sure he wasn't willing to buy high-end paint for her.
This was super interesting! I like Halsey's music but I never realised how good their paintings are. And that watercolor set looks like it's worth it. Would love a part 2! I know Taylor Swift does painting sometimes, so it'd be interesting to see what you think of her art supplies (if you can find them).
Yes would love to see this as a mini series! I think this just goes to show that even celebs know there’s no point in splashing out if you’re just dabbling and having fun. Either that or they’ve no idea about the different types of paint and that there’s pro versions and amateur versions 😄
I got that same set of flip out watercolour trays from Aldi’s branded as Creative Place for $10 about 2 months ago. I also liked the colours, but there were a few caveats I didn’t see you note in your review. 1) the compactness is great, but if you close the trays up while they’re wet, the fit is so tight that any wet paint will get all over the bottom of the tray above it so you have to leave the trays all open to dry completely before you close it. 2) some of the colours on the pallet when dry look nothing like they do when activated. Weird. Kinda a fun surprise when swatching them out, but still weird. 3) the top most paint tabs are hard to get to if you have all the trays open. Aside from that, they were certainly worth the $10 I paid for them.
I was I intrigued with the water colors. Less than 24 hrs later, i have them in hand, already swatched. I love the wide range of colors, vibrant and rich. Keep it up, girl! 💖
I love using Lyra Rembrandt. Lyra itself is a pretty common brand in my country. It’s better than the children’s colored pencils, y’know the regular Faber Castell colored pencils one with red packaging. It’s smooth and creamy, it’s not too expensive, and I can still buy them individually. But of course for their price, their quality is definitely far from the likes of FC Polychromos or Caran D’Ache or Prismacolor. Lyra Rembrandt is like… somewhere in the middle, and the most important is, it fits my budget 😂
Yes please for part 2! One little thing Rae, PLEASE start using an old dishcloth (or buy a pack of cheap ones specially for the purpose of your art) to remove excess water from your brush/clean your brush etc. It is soooo much better for the environment than paper towel and is cheaper too as when they are too dirty you just chuck them in with your laundry and they're good as new! I got a pack of 3 super cheap and just rotate them when they need washing.
Tend to disagree on your assessment of the Lyra pencils. Typically one would not want these to blend too much. Some art students get a lot of flak from their prof when they smudge their work. It's kind of frowned upon in classical drawing classes. Maybe you just need to buy one of the big boxes with 100+ colors?
Wow it must've taken a crazy amount of work to find these art supplies!! would love a part 2💙 I know that Taylor swift paints from time to time (one of her paintings was even in the cardigan music video) so it'd be cool if you found out what she was using!
Oh my gosh! I have the same watercolor set and I never noticed it had a mixing tray lol! Thank you so much for this video! It made my life sooooo much essierrr!
Such a cool concept for the video! But I also freaking LOVE the artwork you created. I love how crisp the shadow underneath is. Really makes it pop off the page.
I love you, girl. You're literally living my dream. Lol what I would GIVE to do what you do. Many years ago I feel like I hit a massive creative block and I'm still there. I never know what to draw/paint/sculpt and I'm stuck with a piece of paper with a little doodle or a clump of clay that looks like it was supposed to be something complex but instead I end up with a ridiculous looking sculpture that I, personally, hate, but people will compliment it. But I love what you do, I enjoy your videos a lot and I wish you all the best in your journey through life.
after britney spears got freed from her conservatorship (for the most part) i made the executive decision to take a deep dive into her discography and listen to all of her albums and now I'm obsessed 😁
I'm Suprised you haven't heard of lura before I went to this school which really focused on creativity and art we occasionally did sewing/knitting and water coloring we used the same brand of color pencils and at the end of the school year you would keep them
The video was awesome Rae! I think we should be thankful that Kim Kardashian's room designers didn't buy the caran dache pencils for their children's homework, because they look exactly like the Lyra pencils 😬😂 Also, I'd absolutely love a part 2!
Hello Ma'am, I have eagerly been waiting for a new video by you 💕 You're my absolute favourite! Love you ❤️ Edit - Damn, the painting at the end was brilliant ✨
I would definitely love a part 2 to this video! But I also love all of your videos Rae! You manage to adapt and grow while still being your genuine self, and if you post a video I will always insta like it.
this is a great idea! I think Johnny Depp would be a great celebrity to look into, I consider him as an actual artist, he paints for years and if I am not mistaken he did some of the concept art in one of his movies (I don't remember which one but possibly a Tim Burton movie) , another Celebrity who is a great artist is Jim Carrey. In "comedians in cars getting coffee" by Jerry Seinfeld takes a good look into Jims art Studio
The sad truth today a really famous celebrity: *paints something random* *gets $10,000* a really infamous random person: *paints something wayyyyyyyy better than the celebrity* *gets $0* (no offence)
Lyra is very common in Europe. Same as staedler and bruynzeel. Always had this as kid and they worked fine. Now I am hooked on caran d'ache these are my go now... lol
This was an interesting video idea - especially because they’re using very middle of the road supplies. I’m sure that KK’s pencil collection in glass jars are not used for actually art but are purely decorative - I wouldn’t be surprised if those jars were glued shut. I really like the Lyra pencils. You were a little harsh on them. They’re a lot cheaper than Caran D’ache and are lovely to use, but I have the watercolour ones. The only non-Aqua pencil I have from them is the white one which is really good. Also, growing up in Germany, the standard primary school art supply was a box of 10 water colours, very cheap, which always included umber, ochre, Royal and Prussian blue. So I guess we all grew up knowing those colour names.
About the Lyra pencils. They are quite common here and I would place them lower than for example polychromos, luminance or prismacolor. The positives for them are that they are quite a bit cheaper (here, I don't know the prices in america) so I view them as student grade. They also have a watercolor pencil that I think is really good at least for how I use them.
The artwork at the end was stunning, it felt like it was gonna jump right off the page! Also, I'm so impressed on how much time you spent researching just to find what art supplies some of these celebrities use. I could never have that much dedication ahaha

Ah Lyra. These are actually pretty common here in Germany. They are a mid level art supply I would say.
I LOVE BRITNEY!!!! I love that she uses artist loft!!! It’s actually decent paint!
please make a part two this was honestly one of my favorite videos you have ever made!
rae, i’ve been watching you for so long. i used to copy your art and i was so proud, and you’ve helped me become the artist i am today.
Rae we definitely need a part 2. This was an amazing video. Keep up the great work.
7:08 I have bought this set from Aliexpress and it was more than great but in a year or so the colors cracked and the colors changed- one of the darker browns became burgundy red.
That's a bummer.
I bought some too and all the paint cracked after a few uses and spilled in my backpack 😭
Yeah that sometimes happens with true wood
I wouldn't trust Aliexpress or Wish for art supplies--believe it or not, there are fakes out there. Often they are cheaper than more traditional sites, but sometimes you can pay a lot for counterfeit pencils and paints.
Rae we desperately need a part 2! This was such a good video and I’m sure there’s so many other celebrities you can do and maybe even recreate their art as well!
I'm up for a part 2! That's an impressive amount of detective work to find the supplies... Those watercolours look pretty cool. May check them out.
I think the conservatorship was the reason why too. She was given a weekly allowance for everything she needed to buy 😡
@@caitlin8274 exactly! Hopefully now that it is over she can get whatever paint she wants!
THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH! WE DEFINITELY WANT A PART 2
Ahhh this was so much fun to watch!! Please turn this into a series, I want more (and I'm sure I'm not alone 😁).
I love Halsey's art work of spirited away they did amazing!
I KNEW the second I heard Halsey that it was going to be a banger. Halsey does a ton of art and it always looks gorgeous, so I'm not surprised they know what they're doing as far as supplies go.
Britney is such a queen
I'm so glad she's finally out of her conservatorship
Please do a part 2 this an amazing video
right!!!
@@SuperRaedizzle I'm also glad she's away from her toxic family
She probably didn't get to pick which paints she could use considering she couldn't spend any money without her father's permission up until recently.
@@TheLitGamer just goes to show how imprisoned she was
The thing to remember about Britny is that yes she is worth millions but until a few months ago she wasn't able to access any of it. her dad had full control over her money. if she had to take him to court and actually fight for the right to her actual money, I'm sure he wasn't willing to buy high-end paint for her.
I am searching through the comment section for this! Britney most likely didn’t pick that paint herself and just had to use whatever her dad gave her.
Please do a part 2. loved the watercolors Halsey uses too.
Part 2 plz! This was fun
Bts are art lovers and also very talented themselves, especially Jungkook. Would be really interesting to find out which art supplies they use :)
Faber Castell are the fancy brand where I'm from
@@sweetdaydreamer8868 I'm sure they meant the classic Faber Castell made for kids coloring
@sweetdaydreamer8868 Faber Castell totally is a fancy brand but they have some budget, really mehh art supplies
We definitely want a part 2!! Though I would love to see the paints which BTS uses!!🥰🥰
Lyra was the first brand of decent pencils I got, except mine were some cheaper set, honestly this video made me feel nostalgic :D
Wow it must've taken a crazy amount of work to find these art supplies!! would love a part 2💙
I know that Taylor swift paints from time to time (one of her paintings was even in the cardigan music video) so it'd be cool if you found out what she was using!
Oh my gosh! I have the same watercolor set and I never noticed it had a mixing tray lol! Thank you so much for this video! It made my life sooooo much essierrr!
(Sorry I was a bit excited so spelling went out the window and everything has exclamation points lol.)
Really enjoyed watching the video. The artwork you made was amazing. Would really love a part 2 for this video🥰❤
Lol! Fun video idea! Had no idea this many people sold art supplies!
Such a cool concept for the video! But I also freaking LOVE the artwork you created. I love how crisp the shadow underneath is. Really makes it pop off the page.
I didn't expect this!!!
Love You Rae!! And Yes we need a part 2!!
Love From India
Glad you're back! You've been such a huge inspiration to everyone including myself :D We'll always support you!
The duel disc omg 🤣 that was my favorite Christmas present the year I got it and I still have it! It’s never leaving me 🙌🏻
you are my hero. i love that
You should totally do a part 2 with more celebrity art supplies!
I'm Suprised you haven't heard of lura before I went to this school which really focused on creativity and art we occasionally did sewing/knitting and water coloring we used the same brand of color pencils and at the end of the school year you would keep them
Would definitely like to see a part 2. This was quite interesting.
P. S love the Safiya Nygaard tshirt
Part 2 for sure! This video was super fun and the artwork came out amazing
I love you more and more each video. Thank you for loving Brittney!
The video was awesome Rae! I think we should be thankful that Kim Kardashian's room designers didn't buy the caran dache pencils for their children's homework, because they look exactly like the Lyra pencils 😬😂
Also, I'd absolutely love a part 2!
It actually makes sense that some celebrities use whatever brand because they don’t exactly understand what makes art supplies high end.
yooo big fan
That final piece 😍😍😍 I would love a part 2 please 👀
My daughter (11) and I love watching your videos and value your opinion on art supplies
Next time can you please do Lin-Manuel Miranda
Rae,
you’re glowing, girl! 😍 love you!
This was a bad ass drawing, you’re definitely an inspiring person ❤️
Hello Ma'am,
I have eagerly been waiting for a new video by you 💕 You're my absolute favourite!
Love you ❤️
Edit - Damn, the painting at the end was brilliant ✨
I would definitely love a part 2 to this video! But I also love all of your videos Rae! You manage to adapt and grow while still being your genuine self, and if you post a video I will always insta like it.
The art work in this video is absolutely gorgeous✨✨
"people are on different boats when it comes to Kim Kardashian"
Welp ig im in the water
this is a great idea!
The sad truth today
a really famous celebrity: *paints something random* *gets $10,000*
a really infamous random person: *paints something wayyyyyyyy better than the celebrity* *gets $0*
(no offence)
You should absolutely do a part two!!
Part two? Can we do a reoccurring series? this was fun! And that art! OMG RAEEEEE!
I love Halsey. They’re so talented in many ways.
The artwork at the end was stunning, it felt like it was gonna jump right off the page! Also, I'm so impressed on how much time you spent researching just to find what art supplies some of these celebrities use. I could never have that much dedication ahaha
SRD rockin' the frumpy look covering celebs rules.
PART TWO PLEASE!!!!! THIS was so FUN and awesome!
Congratulations you are my new obsession and I bow to your artistic talent.
Rae is such a humble queen
We love KK I certainly do. Hard working woman always gets my respect ❤
Nobody else does what you do. Please a part 2 is needed!
