As a german I have to say, that Faber Castell might not be the best brand but they're pretty good and I love most of the stuff I've tried...about them being overpriced: they might be in the US idk but since they're made in germany they're actually pretty cheap, one colored pencil is less than 2€ and it's generally very affordable
Yeah, same here in the Netherlands. They are some of the best quality pencils I have ever used and the price isn't that bad for how long they tend to last me. I also really love the pens they sell, the brush pen is absolutely beautiful
Thank you for bringing awareness to the Bob Ross brand. Bob Ross is such an icon and what they did to him and HIS brand is horrible. And most people want to support Bob Ross because of him and don't know how truly disgusting the people behind the Bob Ross brand are. This is a brand that I'm very adamant about not supporting. EVER.
Everyone who has access to Netflix and claims to be an artist really should watch the documentary. I ugly cried for a good while. Bob Ross was my safe place. Whatever bad was happening in my life, I'd watch The Joy of Painting and everything was okay again. But realizing what the Kowalski's "allegedly" did, it was horrible. Truly disgusting people, exploiting a legend.

Rae, I love you, but Rose Art needs to be in dumpster fire tier 😢🤣 and my beloved liquitex 😭 I kinda want to do a tier list now 👀 or bring back Rose Art as an actually decent art supply brand hah
There is a german brand called Staedtler and it's literally AMAZING that I highly recommend it ... it's mostly known for the high quality graphite pencils which are definitely the BEST
True, I use Staedtler every day… Their mechanic pencils are great, the regular ones also… Their colored pencils are also very nice pigmented… I feel they are like Crayola in prices (in Belgium) but better quality… We don’t hear a lot about them I think, but we should, they are one of the best… I would love to know what Rae thinks about them actually 😁…
@@DarkTink369 Yeah I'd like to see them getting more recognition Their mechanical pencils can literally last forever! And the graphite ones don't give this much shine that ruins the artwork ... they also have a black version of pencils and its amazing with how dark it gets and how much it adds to your work You can get the best graphite kit ever from this company
The Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils are straight up GOD TIER for me! I've tried so many other w.c. pencils and just nothing compares, ever.
The funniest and most ironic (most tragic?) part of the Bob Ross thing is that he wasn't even the one who invented that painting technique! In the very first ever episode of The Joy of Painting, he tells you who taught him. It was Bill Alexander! How can Kowalski sue someone for using Bill Alexander's technique?
Because of the following statement: "Who is Bill Alexander?" Yeah, Bob Ross was inspired by him and his show, (pretty much copied it), but at the end of the day, no one knows how Bill Alexander is and everyone knows Bob Ross.
I actually learn about Bob Ross through Bill Alexander videos when I started oil painting. I recognized Ross from when I was a kid, but had no clue who he was.
In Germany Faber Castell is like Crayola in the US. Most known for school supplies and not widely known as an art supply brand. They just also happen to have really good artist grade supplies. So I think your ranking is justified. And I love the Polychromos :)
Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencils should be in a category in themselves in " God Tier". They are so good, highly pigmented and mix well. I just love love, love, love using these
Agreed, the best. I particularly love and recommend their Magnus range, so much good pigment in a 5.3 mm lead, you can really go ham with large scale watercolour drawings and background washes. Love it.
The one thing I love about Copics that put them into God Tier for me is that that nibs are replaceable and the alcohol inks are refillable. In a time where we have so many one use Items, I'd gladly pay extra for copic.
This was a really insightful review of the products, I think the only one I disagree with is Faber Castel. Their Albrecht drurer water colour pencils are incredible and I love their pitt artist pens, they use sustainable materials and have such a great variety.
I didn't know they were a sustainable ish brand, that makes a big difference ti me in which company I buy from. Though it is painful to know it's a super affordable brand in Europe even though it sells for luxury prices in the US
If Jazza could source every single alcohol based marker ever to compare then you could totally make a tier list of every single art supply brand. I have faith. And I would absolutely watch that 20 hour video don’t tempt me like that.
I would as well, because, I spend countless hours reading reviews and end up not knowing WHAT is safe to buy because there are so many frauds out there, supply company and manufacturing changes sighhh.
I love the Faber-Castelle pencils for final details cause of their hard led that can be sharpened to such perfection (except the white one... the white is garbage). But, by far my most favourite colored pencils are Derwent Lightfast and Derwent Drawing (so much that I'm almost insulted you haven't included them hahaha) and everything else I tried from them is great. So perhaps in the future give them a go :)
I agree, by far my favourite drawing pencils are the Derwent Drawing, the earthy colours and soft pigments are the best, in my experience, for portrait and animal sketching.
Yes, I love Derwent products. The fact that they are an older brand, but continue to innovate, coming up with unique products artists and wanna be artists like myself can use to foster our creativity us impressive. I was patiently waiting for Rad to say Derwent, but maybe they aren't really her style. Hopefully, she’ll make this into a series, and Derwent still make the next video.
@kimcakez This comment that I replied to called the farber's hard. The Goldfarb a little harder than the polychromes, but neither are hard like even a prisma, and really not like a crayola, but they're also a completely different formula for the cores.
As an artist that uses Sharpies with watercolor, I'm happy about the God Tier place. Once you get used to using them and how bold they are. Sharpies blend so beautifully with one another just *chef's kiss* They really bring the best out in watercolor when layered over top (at least with my style.)
Oh RoseArt hahahah we used to make candles using RoseArt at Girl Scout camp outs because they were so cheap and waxy and they had all the colors and some pretty cool ones like the glitter ones.
It kills me a little inside that Faber-Castell didn’t make it to a slightly higher category 😭😭 But this was so fun! I love seeing how you rank everything and agree with so much of this. I’m impressed you were able to summarize your thoughts on an entire brand so well. I would struggle with indecisiveness like crazy with a video like this! I’d need 50 subcategories and different award systems 🫠
She only tried the 12 set and has not used them extensively. I feel she has been partial to what she grew up with and in the USA for a long time there was only Prismacolor available along with Crayolas. Really Polychromos did not become Popular until the early 2000 in the USA when the quality of Prismacolor went down .
Faber Castelle Pitt pens are my favorite second only to the Pigma brush pens. They’re water-fast, which makes them great for drawing when you intend to paint over later with watercolor. The Sakura pens only come in limited colors, and the Pitt pens come in tons (120?) of great colors. The white set is even pretty good, though the saturation level could be better.
You should really check out Faber Castell's 'Goldfaber' line of coloured pencils. Smooth, blendable, 45 colours, and they play well with the Prismacolor Premiers since a lot of the Goldfaber colours are near to but just different enough than the Prismacolor Premier pallet. May Green, just might be my new favourite colour. (Apologies to Chartreuse.)
I had no idea that RoseArt was discontinued, but that explains why I haven't seen it in a while. Honestly, I'm going to miss those crayons with the weird waxy film and the terrible scissors that break apart way too easily.
I've not even watched it but I know its going to be a fun and awesome video! I love your enthusiasm and company so much Rae you are a true inspiration. Love from India
I love love love polychromos, they're my favorite brand of pencils. When you said "they're the oldest" and I saw your expression, I was like "DO NOT SAY FABER-CASTELL".😂I have tried like several brands of pencils including prismacolor premier, polychromos are my favorite, they do not have any of the problems I have experienced with prismacolor. Faber-castell is my go to for art supplies.
@@mmwashere6563 not quite. RoseArt was actually the original brand, they were sold off and replaced by Cra-Z-Art, and now they've been RE-bought by the original company.
I loved this video and I would suggest a part two, if it's possible, so fans of other brands of art supplies could see names like Staedler, Royal & Langnickel, Loew Cornell, Sargent, Fredrix, and several others stack up. I have used some of the brands you already mentioned, such as Prismacolor and Crayola, but didn't get to see some of those listed here
sort of interesting to see copic have a sort of "fall from grace" over the years. where in pretty recent memory they had basically a monopoly on alcohol markers since their only competition were store brands that never had a brush nib and were very limited in colors, and office supplies like sharpies that mostly come in very satuated colors. now we have all these less expensive brands and all these new marker artists who are starting out on these brands over copic. and from what i've seen, while artists who have used copics first still have a strong preference for copics because of their blendability, brush nibs, and just the fact that they come in the most colors, people who "upgrade" to copic from a a cheaper brand HATES them. I feel like this is because the high price of copics have been highlighted and the things that copic has over other brands still don't make it worth the $7 ish they cost, and these artists will rather deal with the shortcomings of cheaper brands by using color pencils to help with not having an inbetween shade or buying individual markers replacements cause the whole marker is cheaper than a whole copic refill.
and you can refill them too ! less plastic waste imo. note : i'm from France and bought a refill last week from the "Le Géant des Beaux Arts" shop. less than 11€ the refill which is assumed to refill a ciao marker up to 8 times.
Interesting comment. I like your perspective. I'm one of those artists who started with Copics so I love them because they are refillable and you can even replace the nibs. I've also had Ohuhus but I didn't like them as much only because I couldn't buy a refill when I used up my favorite colors or frayed the nib. The quality of Ohuhu is great and I loved it for how easy it was to get a lot of colors, it's just you can't refill them or replace the nib. I would recommend Ohuhu and other cheap brands to beginner marker artists and then once you know you enjoy them and its worth it, upgrade to Copic. If you bought Ohuhu and didn't enjoy using markers, then it's not a big loss if you're never gonna use them again. I would not recommend Copic to beginners because it's too expensive! And that's coming from someone who began with Copics!
About Copic Markers , I like when they do subtle colour , theyre serious about that , i mostly used the cheap Copics alternative but i own some of copics too
@@ReptarsaurusRex I feel like in general it's better to get more affordable supplies rather than getting the best of the best when you're trying out a new medium Also since I've seen a lot of artist hesitate to use supplies that were expensive for them
So sorry for answering late.. very late but i just started watching rae and she is the queen anyways i think that crayola is more than likely how we all started to get good at art. It taught us how to color and then shade and blend the list goes on
I love how you aren’t just basing your opinions off of what people think or if it’s popular/trendy/cool. but off of it’s ACTUAL usability, their variety, their prices, their quality, etc. the way you’re so honest, not caring about what other people think, it’s awesome!
I love the Faber Castell Polychromos and graphite pencils. They're so good for fine detail. I also love Prismacolor, Crayola, and Winsor & Newton. I didn't know Gucci and LV produced art supplies until I watched your video. 😂
I’m a teacher and I love art! We have this program in my district where teachers can sign up to get free supplies at a World Vision warehouse. They gave away lots of cool stuff and not just basic school supplies. They even gave away Instapots for free one time! Anyway, I was able to snag a 24-count of Prismacolor colored pencils!Totally agree they are God tier! First time I used them, I didn’t realize there was another tray underneath the top one but I took it out of the tin and was like there’s more ?! lol 😅
I knew that Carandache was going to be GOD TIER , cause I have heard so many good reviews about it I knew that Rae was going to put to GOD TIER , even though the price is expensive. Also love your content keep it up 😀
I use their wax pastels. Definitely a lot more expensive than regular crayons, but I prefer crayons or wax pastels to the more traditional oil pastels and they'll play nice with oil paints and oil pastels
I've never tried the Luminance pencils (though I'd love to) but every Caran d'Ache product that I have tried (watersoluable pastels, watercolour pencil crayons, etc.) has been top notch.
The only word to express Rae is :- FUN 💜 There are a lot more like inspiring, pretty, talented, cool, skilled, intelligent, funny....and the list goes on 🤪 But I love your videos Rae, you're awesome
I agree with the sharpie. I currently am using the fine point sharpie as my fineliner, and it's working just as good as any other fineliner, at a cheap price!
Since I'm relatively new to art and have a limited budget, I was hoping you would rank Crafter's Closet (dollar general brand). I like them, they're not bad at all. Thanks for this! This list is helpful!
@@chatboulon743 no, Crafters closet, from Dollar general the yellow store not the green one. I actually have their metallic colored pencils and the watercolor pencils, they aren't bad
Faber castell makes really good color pencils for the price. The Faber castell classics are really good for beginners and the polychromos are really awesome. But I actually agree with the tier list tbh. Love the videos you make.
I'm sad my favourite brand - Daler Rowney - didn't get a spot on the list. Genuinely the first brand I reach for wherever I go - especially their paper, paint brushes, acrylic paint and acrylic inks. God tier for me.
One good thing about dollar tree for art supplies is you can buy canvas panels ( 8x10's and 11x14's) to practice techniques on for cheap. This saves your quality canvases for actual paintings.
The love for Bob Ross would have had me hit subscribe if I wasn't already a looooong time subscriber! Bob Ross is God, but folk messing him over for the mola are most definitely not!!!
Me and my brother, We love Bob Ross so much We love him so much, he is our favorite artists. The GOD of oil painting. Sorry Rae, we weren't aware of UA-cam at the time, we were only 7/11. We only watched Netflix at the time. We both watch you a lot, but my brother watches so much Bob Ross when he paints, it's crazy. He sometimes tries to do wet on wet with Acrylics. We still love you, Rae. You make us laugh a lot, but when my brother saw where you put Bob Ross, he left the living room and went to paint. BUT, We asked him about Rose Art. He said F teir, but when he saw S tier from you, He said (without realizing) WTF!!!! SWITCH THOSE TWO RIGHT NOW! If you were there, you would die from laughter because of the way he said it. I watch you a lot because of Hacks and stuff like that. I realized what Rose Art is S+ tier for Melting Crayons Love you, rae
Since you're asking for specific Faber-Castell recommendations, their 9000 line is pretty much the only pencil I ever use. The shape of it feels really good to use, and they lay down graphite really well.
I hope you can review some Derwent or Cretacolor stuff next time, also more CARAN!! I really love your videos and I think I agree 100% with your tier list so I know that your review of those brands would make the most sense to me!
I remember Fabre-Castell having some Pitt Markers that I thought were great. I've moved on to other markers, but those are my second OG art supply. (First one being Crayola obviously.)
I love the Pitt pens, though for watercolor illustrations I’ve now become fully enamored with the Sakura Pigma Brush Pens. I just love the effect you can get with the fine tip pen, and they’re super water-fast.
I highly recommend Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens. India ink, waterproof, just great. Though a pit pricey, I'd recommend getting a bigger package or on sale. (also love their pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, erasers - nothing I from them disappointed) I also bought a few Caran d'Ache fibralo brush markers and they're great too and cheaper than Pitt. I think I'd choose them over Tombow (mine's tips got frayed easily...)
I guess its all a preference, cause I'm the exact opposite :P tombow all the way for me, its nice that they are waterproof, but I found them much less pleasant to work with. they literally changed how I feel about drawing with markers. and black faber castel calligraphy pens/fineliners..., I tried them because multiple artists I admired said that they prefer them over micron by a mile... and yet... I'm going back to micron personaly.
@@Forgefaerie oh right forgot about watercolor effect xd in this case I'm all for Kuretake Zig Art & graphic, they're very wet and look great on paper, they were the easiest to learn basics of hand lettering with for me and cheaper than tombows, though a bit harder to get. Their Zig Mangaka flexible brush pen is beautiful for inking drawings too.
@@SilentProti amazon has a set of 90 for $145.. you are right, it is slightly cheaper then tombows :P I don't do hand lettering (though maker knows I've tried to learn it) I use my tombows for illustration and I might even prefer them over alcohol markers /hide (I just find them the easiest to blend). random - having just done couple of medium sized project for school using ink pens... I definitely prefer microns there, personaly. I have also just found that faber castel makes water based brush pens ala tombow, but dear god they are expensive.... aaaand I'm going to stop babbling now :P
@@Forgefaerie well in my country set of 12 zig is cheaper than 12 tombows. I get you, I think I prefer water based markers too, they're just so much more versatile right? You're basically wasting alcohol ink if you're not using marker paper and they don't blend nicely then, I'm definitely all for mix media. Oh and BTW - white Pitt pen is so so much better for highlights than any gel pen! And actually cheaper than a good white gel pen.
@@SilentProti ah, that would make sense - for me smaller packs of zig's on amazon are more expensive then tombows from blick art supply by FAR. and thank you for the tip on white pit pen! I have been searching for a good white highlight I can use lazily/quickly and so far I hated everything. people swear by uniball pens, but I didn't like mine at all. I end up resorting to either white gouache with a detail brush, or prismacolor white pencil, but its just not ideal for some things. going to grab one next time I'm doing blick order (which is probably in a fall sometime)
Hi Rae. I always love to watch your videos. I binge on it so much. Recently, I've been seeing this brand called "Mont Marte" on my local art stores and wanted to see reviews of it but there are too little of those. So, would you please review that brand is you're okay with it?
About a week ago I bought a set of colouring pencils that were metallic. And almost none of them appeared metallic on the paper but I don’t regret buying them.
Hey Rae! Been subscribed to this channel for about 6 years and I love your content and you’re such an inspiration to me! Me and my dad watch you together and you bring in a lot of “woah”s and “oooh”s from both of us!
I love Golden, they’re my go-to for all my acrylic needs, and even for painting miniature models, definitely god tier in my book. I mix a lot of paints from powder pigments, and Golden’s media are the only ones I use for acrylics. I get my powder pigments from Kremer Pigments, mainly because pretty much they’re the only ones who have an extensive range. (I have a Ph.D. in pigment chemistry, I can’t help myself!) I really dislike Canson paper for some reason. Not a fan of Strathmore either. Then again, when I was young and had a real job and no children, I could afford really good paper like Fabriano and Arches, so I’m kind of spoiled. Windsor and Newton watercolors are awesome, the series 7 brushes are beyond fantastic but oh man are they expensive. The Cotman brushes are really good and much less expensive. I really like Holbein gouache
One of my favorite brands (based on my budget) for myself and my nieces (ages 7-10): Arteza. Guessing prior to watching the video that they fit in the upper-middle. (Edit: We bought them when they were cheaper. It's gone up.) As for Roseart... During the 80s and 90s, sometimes we just got what we got. There was no Amazon, and most places were lucky to have supplies in Wal-Mart. Roseart meant well when we didn't have other options :)
I found my love for art with Roseart Colored Pencils, and a Newsprint drawing pad. Both of which were complete trash, but it got me hooked. And my Mamaw was the one who got it for me, in 1993, when I was spending the summer with her after my papaw passed away, while I had chickenpox. One of my best memories of her. If it wasn't for Roseart, chickenpox, and a blockage in my papaws heart, I may not have ever picked up a love for art. Thanks Roseart!
The only bob ross art supply I have is from my great grandmother who is a retired art teacher who left me all her art supplies. One bob ross paint knife from when he was still painting on tv it is my favorite item I've been left and lives amongst my plants on display
FABER CASTELL FINELINERS!!! A lot of their pens actually, I love them. Sakura micron is great too and I use both brands, but if you're doing a lot of drawing the Faber ones are so much more comfortable to hold.
Have you tried Apple Barrel paint? I can’t remember if you have, but that’s what got me into painting. I would use my mom’s bucket of those paints, and even though Artist’s Loft isn’t the BEST, it’s affordable so it’s what I use with painting
Caran D'Ache is an expensive brand abroad ? I didn't know that ! they make tons of art supply in Switzerland and most of my classmate used this brand in class (those water soluble pencils are soooo famous here and not that $$$)
Let me put it this way: If I, a person from Latin America, wanted the 24 color box, I would have to sell one of my kidneys to pay them. So yes, they are way overpriced overseas, hence why most people in Latin America buy Prismacolor (Premier or Junior) or Faber Castell (the ones with the red box, not the Polychromos).
Was living in Austria the first half of my life and now living in Germany and have to say i don't think Faber-Castell is overpriced tbh - maybe it is in the USA. The quality is - especially with the Polychromos, mechanical pencils and Artist Qualitiy Stuff - really worth the money, so i was really a bit upset that you put them in the "Meh, Just Okay" line. And i really had to laugh when you put prismacolor in "God Tier" because their quality is so bad, like, their cores are not centered, the wood is often splintered, they are a pain to sharpen etc. I know this is all your opinion and everybody loves different stuff, these are just my 2 cents i had to comment :D Btw thank you so much for pointing out the whole Bob Ross stuff, that is so sad, especially for his family, shame on his business partners!
Omg Rae, idk if I can watch you anymore, putting Roseart above Gamblin breaks my HEART Sincerely, someone who just started learning oils this week (but has been doing art since I could hold a pencil) and tried bad oils (student grade Arteza, looking at you, I'd rate it just ok), and then got Gamblin and whose life was forever changed by how gorgeous their oils are
Awe it’s just for fun! These are just my thoughts and in the comments feel free to rank yours too! :) and good luck on the oils, you’re absolutely going to love them
Faber castell is easier to get if you live in Europe though, they don't even sell prismacolour at most art stores where I live, but with faber castell there are a lot of options.
Girl you were asking for the faber castell thing I recommend that you use the water colour pencil that they make first off you can use as a normal colour pencil well obiously and if you put little water on the edge of the colour led thing it'll glide sooooooooooooo silky smoooth and if you mix it with a lil bidda wader 🤣you get water colour well I obviously know that I just really wanted to say this
I feel like people levitate towards cheap brands but the products are a miss. There are a very few brands which actually give good supplies for low prices. I hope this changes in the future because not all of us have the money to purchase caran d’ache pencils lol 😂
Depends on where you are but Koh I Noor are cheap and solid, if you're ever in central/Eastern Europe I recommend their pencils, Magic colored pencils and watercolour pencils.
I respect the fact that she not only put amazon (the evil company) in meh and bob ross brand in straight to jail (the evil company). I respect the artist loft placement too lol
Here in Sweden, most schools have Faber Castell’s colouring pencils. They come in a big red wooden box. They are honestly not the greatest (probably because they are made for kids), but they make the work done. But they break easily, especially the thin pencils, so you have to resharpening them a lot.
I’m rewatching some of Rae’s videos and when she started talking about Faber Castell’s pencils I got an ad for Prismacolor as if it was “HEY I’M BETTER” 😂
I’m assuming you have tried the art supplies from the brand Derwent, but if you haven’t you totally should! Although this brand is not from the US, I can find there stuff commonly at my art store. I love their watercolor pencils and probably anything else they make! Amazing video as always!!!
I just can't explain why but Derwent's graphite pencils is not good (at least for me). I prefer Faber-Castell graphite pencils and polychromos. It's the only one that makes inktense pencils and inktense blocks. I don't hate Derwent in a whole, just their graphite pencils for some reason.
It was nice to hear your thoughts on hobby lobby. I personally will never shop there, it just makes me too sad. I mostly just do colored pencil and Prisma is definitely my favorite 💚💚💚

Yeah, same here in the Netherlands. They are some of the best quality pencils I have ever used and the price isn't that bad for how long they tend to last me. I also really love the pens they sell, the brush pen is absolutely beautiful
When she put meh just okay my childhood was ruined it is the best option for middle class art supply in europe

yesss it’s like THE brand for students in the Netherlands because of the relatively cheap price range 😅

The funniest and most ironic (most tragic?) part of the Bob Ross thing is that he wasn't even the one who invented that painting technique! In the very first ever episode of The Joy of Painting, he tells you who taught him. It was Bill Alexander! How can Kowalski sue someone for using Bill Alexander's technique?
ooooooohhh my god ur soooo smart bro.
Because of the following statement: "Who is Bill Alexander?"
Yeah, Bob Ross was inspired by him and his show, (pretty much copied it), but at the end of the day, no one knows how Bill Alexander is and everyone knows Bob Ross.
I actually learn about Bob Ross through Bill Alexander videos when I started oil painting. I recognized Ross from when I was a kid, but had no clue who he was.
That bitch would probably steal the rights to Bill's stuff too since that was his technique.

You’re the second person who said this, I’ll try them!
@@SuperRaedizzle Do!
I love them too. Watercolour is my favourite medium, and I might be a little obsessed with these pencils.
The one thing I love about Copics that put them into God Tier for me is that that nibs are replaceable and the alcohol inks are refillable. In a time where we have so many one use Items, I'd gladly pay extra for copic.
Exactly! This is a major reason why I prefer them over alcohol markers from brands like ohuhu
Ohuhu now do refills!
Ohuhu now do replaceable nibs!
Thats exactly the reason why its the go to coloring book pencil brand in germany (where they are from)
Polychrome are SOFT, what pencils have you been using‽
@kimcakez This comment that I replied to called the farber's hard.
Sharpies blend so beautifully with one another just *chef's kiss*
They really bring the best out in watercolor when layered over top (at least with my style.)
Imo Faber Castel makes amazing pencils/ pencil paraphernalia. The 1mm lead is leaps better than the competition and pretty affordable.
I really appreciate that your God tier brands weren't just the fancy artist quality brands, and that you too accessibility into account!
i just said this out loud while watching!
Except that the god tier brands have student series, which are at least better than cheap (and therfor bad) art supplies.
Oh RoseArt hahahah we used to make candles using RoseArt at Girl Scout camp outs because they were so cheap and waxy and they had all the colors and some pretty cool ones like the glitter ones.
It kills me a little inside that Faber-Castell didn’t make it to a slightly higher category 😭😭
But this was so fun! I love seeing how you rank everything and agree with so much of this.
I’m impressed you were able to summarize your thoughts on an entire brand so well. I would struggle with indecisiveness like crazy with a video like this! I’d need 50 subcategories and different award systems 🫠
Ms rea….pls rate my hand practice tutorial….if u want to that is
She only tried the 12 set and has not used them extensively.
Omg Sarah
Oh crazy art is just the same basically
😂😂😂😂
I love the faber castell Pitt Artist Brush pen. It feels really nice to use and it comes in multiple colors.
I've not even watched it but I know its going to be a fun and awesome video! I love your enthusiasm and company so much Rae you are a true inspiration. Love from India
frr
I love love love polychromos, they're my favorite brand of pencils. When you said "they're the oldest" and I saw your expression, I was like "DO NOT SAY FABER-CASTELL".😂I have tried like several brands of pencils including prismacolor premier, polychromos are my favorite, they do not have any of the problems I have experienced with prismacolor. Faber-castell is my go to for art supplies.
because of how similar the logo is and the quality of the products i definitely always assumed crazart took over roseart.
Oh good, I’m not the only one.
No they literally are. Rose art was bought by cra z art
@@mmwashere6563 not quite. RoseArt was actually the original brand, they were sold off and replaced by Cra-Z-Art, and now they've been RE-bought by the original company.
They didn't?
Same.
I loved this video and I would suggest a part two, if it's possible, so fans of other brands of art supplies could see names like Staedler, Royal & Langnickel, Loew Cornell, Sargent, Fredrix, and several others stack up. I have used some of the brands you already mentioned, such as Prismacolor and Crayola, but didn't get to see some of those listed here
Your videos are always so helpful! I can’t express how much you have helped me from when I started to now 💕
Heyyyyyy Dania I love your videos!
Oh my God hello I am your big fan 💞!!
Omg hi I’m 3rd love you’re art
Do you know what she uses for a website or app to rank these?
hi
My personal favorites are Faber Castell and Winsor and Newton. I really enjoy working with those
sort of interesting to see copic have a sort of "fall from grace" over the years. where in pretty recent memory they had basically a monopoly on alcohol markers since their only competition were store brands that never had a brush nib and were very limited in colors, and office supplies like sharpies that mostly come in very satuated colors.
now we have all these less expensive brands and all these new marker artists who are starting out on these brands over copic. and from what i've seen, while artists who have used copics first still have a strong preference for copics because of their blendability, brush nibs, and just the fact that they come in the most colors, people who "upgrade" to copic from a a cheaper brand HATES them.
I tried Artist Loft and Ohuhu first, and then got a bunch of Copics. I like them all. I do like that Copics are refillable.
About Copic Markers , I like when they do subtle colour , theyre serious about that , i mostly used the cheap Copics alternative but i own some of copics too
@@ReptarsaurusRex I feel like in general it's better to get more affordable supplies rather than getting the best of the best when you're trying out a new medium
Also since I've seen a lot of artist hesitate to use supplies that were expensive for them
Super Ray Dizzle is my favorite UA-camr and I love her videos. She’s my favorite UA-camr in the whole world and she is awesome.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Speaking of Faber-Castell, I have to say their Albrecht Dürer ( the watercolor pencils) are the best. 🥰🥰🥰
So sorry for answering late.. very late but i just started watching rae and she is the queen anyways i think that crayola is more than likely how we all started to get good at art. It taught us how to color and then shade and blend the list goes on

Totally agree! 👏🏻
Polychromos are top notch, cream of the crop for me and the most high end requested item for university art students.
First time I used them, I didn’t realize there was another tray underneath the top one but I took it out of the tin and was like there’s more ?! lol 😅
💯 agree with the Bob Ross brand. I feel like more people should be talking about this topic!
Yeah
I fully agree with you that people should talk about this.
for a brand not on the list, jackson's art is my absolute go to 😔💜💜 affordable and high quality for the price, i love them
I knew that Carandache was going to be GOD TIER , cause I have heard so many good reviews about it I knew that Rae was going to put to GOD TIER , even though the price is expensive. Also love your content keep it up 😀
Yah unfortunately the price is kinda sky rocket. Only rich peep only buy tht
I'm not that keen on Luminance, but I will defend Supracolor to the hilt
I use their wax pastels. Definitely a lot more expensive than regular crayons, but I prefer crayons or wax pastels to the more traditional oil pastels and they'll play nice with oil paints and oil pastels
I've never tried the Luminance pencils (though I'd love to) but every Caran d'Ache product that I have tried (watersoluable pastels, watercolour pencil crayons, etc.) has been top notch.
Love this! I just made a video where I test five of super Rae dizzles viral TikTok art tutorials! She is so talented and they were super fun!!!

Dollar Tree is on the list?? And I think it's called Crafter's Square. o.o
@@chatboulon743 no, Crafters closet, from Dollar general the yellow store not the green one. I actually have their metallic colored pencils and the watercolor pencils, they aren't bad
I LITERALLY HATE EVERYONE WHO TOOK BOB ROSS'S BRAND! I understand why you put in there and I respect what you did.
I do really like Faber-Castell ink lining pens. I have the 8 pack.

He said F teir, but when he saw S tier from you,

Since you're asking for specific Faber-Castell recommendations, their 9000 line is pretty much the only pencil I ever use. The shape of it feels really good to use, and they lay down graphite really well.
Faber castle's Shading drawing pencils are very good mainly the 6B it's awesome
I hope you can review some Derwent or Cretacolor stuff next time, also more CARAN!! I really love your videos and I think I agree 100% with your tier list so I know that your review of those brands would make the most sense to me!
I really liked Rose•Art. Their crayons were the best in my opinion. Really buttery smooth. They also made really good sidewalk chalk too.
Bob Ross is the ✨king✨ of art 😌
I remember Fabre-Castell having some Pitt Markers that I thought were great. I've moved on to other markers, but those are my second OG art supply. (First one being Crayola obviously.)
Oh yes, the Pitt brush pens are lovely
I love the Pitt pens, though for watercolor illustrations I’ve now become fully enamored with the Sakura Pigma Brush Pens. I just love the effect you can get with the fine tip pen, and they’re super water-fast.
I have no idea how but I wasn’t having a bad day today and watching this video just filled me with a comforting warmth

I love Golden, they’re my go-to for all my acrylic needs, and even for painting miniature models, definitely god tier in my book. I mix a lot of paints from powder pigments, and Golden’s media are the only ones I use for acrylics. I get my powder pigments from Kremer Pigments, mainly because pretty much they’re the only ones who have an extensive range. (I have a Ph.D. in pigment chemistry, I can’t help myself!)
I really dislike Canson paper for some reason.
Thank you Rae for telling us more about art supply brands
One of my favorite brands (based on my budget) for myself and my nieces (ages 7-10): Arteza. Guessing prior to watching the video that they fit in the upper-middle. (Edit: We bought them when they were cheaper. It's gone up.)
As for Roseart... During the 80s and 90s, sometimes we just got what we got. There was no Amazon, and most places were lucky to have supplies in Wal-Mart. Roseart meant well when we didn't have other options :)
Faber Castell's Black Edition pencils. They're extremely cheap but they blend perfectly together!
omg totally agree! I happen to have a 36 pack and i use their white pencil most, since they blend PERFECTLY
@@MissDusk I saw that they released a 50 pencils set (and a 100, but not sure) and I'm sooo excited to get them now ^.^

Heyy rae I wanted to say thank you so much for this video, as a newbie this was really helpful...aslo thank you so much for being honest

Sakura micron is great too and I use both brands, but if you're doing a lot of drawing the Faber ones are so much more comfortable to hold.
hey rae! i loved how much you smiled throughout this video, made my day :)
My favorite brand in general is Ohuhu. I like this brand because their markers are SO affordable and just in general GOOD- ✨💅👌🏻
I love ohuhu, I wish they had refill options sooner, but I believe they have them now or are currently working on them.
I love the Faber Castell watercolour set that you can get in this little white box, brilliant stuff. Probably the best watercolours I've ever used.
I know this is all your opinion and everybody loves different stuff, these are just my 2 cents i had to comment :D
Btw thank you so much for pointing out the whole Bob Ross stuff, that is so sad, especially for his family, shame on his business partners!
Omg Rae, idk if I can watch you anymore, putting Roseart above Gamblin breaks my HEART
Sincerely, someone who just started learning oils this week (but has been doing art since I could hold a pencil) and tried bad oils (student grade Arteza, looking at you, I'd rate it just ok), and then got Gamblin and whose life was forever changed by how gorgeous their oils are
Awe it’s just for fun! These are just my thoughts and in the comments feel free to rank yours too! :) and good luck on the oils, you’re absolutely going to love them
Faber castell is easier to get if you live in Europe though, they don't even sell prismacolour at most art stores where I live, but with faber castell there are a lot of options.
i work at michaels and someone asked me abt generals brand and i couldn’t describe it better than you put it, they’re just god tier
Girl you were asking for the faber castell thing I recommend that you use the water colour pencil that they make first off you can use as a normal colour pencil well obiously and if you put little water on the edge of the colour led thing it'll glide sooooooooooooo silky smoooth and if you mix it with a lil bidda wader 🤣you get water colour well I obviously know that I just really wanted to say this
You should rank your top tier art supply per item, like rank for color penci or oil color. Sounds fun
I feel like people levitate towards cheap brands but the products are a miss. There are a very few brands which actually give good supplies for low prices. I hope this changes in the future because not all of us have the money to purchase caran d’ache pencils lol 😂

Here in Sweden, most schools have Faber Castell’s colouring pencils. They come in a big red wooden box. They are honestly not the greatest (probably because they are made for kids), but they make the work done. But they break easily, especially the thin pencils, so you have to resharpening them a lot.
Remember that we might have other brand in Europe :) I like creadu, Staedtler, Lyra, Pentel
I love Staedtler. Koh I Noor is solid too. Also stuff from Lidl, my Crelando paints are awesome for the price. Pentel in Japanese tho :)
