I think what sets these SM trainees apart from other trainees is that, while other trainees, when covering songs and performances, tend to copy the original, which make them look off in a way, SM trainees will understand the song and perform it like it's their own. This is actually the most effective way of covering a song and I like how their performance looks more like another version of the song rather than a cover.
friendly reminders to those who still insist in comparing them to NCT U: - these guys had only ONE WEEK to practice - yushi and sion had twice the workload (they performed 90s Love before this one) - they had 2 missions before this final mission (they practiced and performed nonstop for three weeks) - jungmin's throat was sore - sion himself admitted that it was exhausting performing two songs in every mission - this is 100% LIVE, no backing track and no pre-recorded vocals

The craziest thing that happens here is that some of this trainees has only been training for less than a year but they show better result than some of active idols out there. I didn't mean this to discredit the hard work of those idols, but this is a long time facts that SM, despite their some questionable scandals, has always been successful for debuting high quality idol and artist. 👏👏👏
like they said SM pick the visual first then they believe talent can be taught and then they implement the importance of being humble, being polite to anyone and thats why every SM group still stays in SM and they are all respected

JYP also did this to his first NIZIU trainees. Those trainees were also Japanese. They did well but in terms of quality and making covers feel like their own songs, these guys definitely did way better if not best. After watching these performances, I can find niziu's performances way inferior now like I forgot why I was so impressed by them back then. A big difference is those girls had a month of preparation while these boys only had a week and dang, yushion had to perform twice. Imagine the gap. I can't phantom these guys hardwork, dedication and exhaustion. While some knetz who are so-called nctzens had the audacity to complain and cannot accept them because of the gap of skills with the first unit like they weren't aware of NCT's concept from the start. I just had to point out NIZIU and now I'm complaining 😅

wow Maeda Riku is literally the BOSS, he's so neo blooded and performs like a pro, that's with only one year of training experience? his rap, stage presence, facial expressions, dance, and visual are perfect!!
Okay I must say this Riku definitely ate. I find Jungmin still kinda stiff despite having the same problem with Minjae on ep 1, but Minjae improve so much that I thought SM was gonna make him debut but instead they choose Jungmin. I understand though probably bcs his unique vocal tone, afterall they already have Daeyong who is main vocal candidate & already master some vocal technique. For Haruta, I think the one things that prevent him to shine is he still didn't know which position he gonna pursue beside dance, but in rap he needs to find his own suitable flow & tone, just like Sakuya (+ his confidence on expressing). Ryu,Kassho, & Heistetsu have the same problem. They are good enough but being among many very good trainees make them unseen. They need some flavour so that they can shine & noticeable (work on your expression too). I know since I've been in Heitetsu position before, already doing so much what I can but still not enough. Kinda frustating but in the end I learn many things after the struggle. Being 02 line while not knowing whether your dreams gonna come true is stressing, I'm hoping the best for you. Last, its gonna be hard for YuSion now that they have diverse member on their group. They should really think carefully about what vibes/color the team has. We all know that even if nct is one, each unit have their own color to pursue, so I hope NCT Japan also can find it too & be successful.
