WARNING: Saving to the "Sprite.bin" file hasn't been working for some people, so be sure to copy your sprites over to the rom and save the changes to your rom file before quitting, just to be safe.
hey, are you currently working on any snes rom game? I've seen some people improving snes and genesis games quite drastically from their original counterparts.
For those wondering how to get palettes from other games here’s what I know, you save state on ZSNES with the rom you want a palette from, after that in the ZSNES dir there should be a (what ever rom ur using).zst file that’s the save state load up that save state in YYCHR, from what I know only ZSNES Save states work save states from any other emulators won’t.
Wow this is absolutely perfect. Way better than tile editor pro. I guess it depends on the rom, but still this is awesome! Ive just started getting into rom hacking and I am so pumped to start making my own stuff.
Holy crap man i was just trying to see if i can get the fish you pick up in the great swamp in the light world from draining the water in the dungeon but you have shown me how to make a rom hack as well you are amazing i am most definetly going to try to make my own rom hacks of these games i love from sprites i already have and or will make of their versions of those games thanks again fellow sprite lover Fwiller :D
So i was putting nearly an hours work of stuff and for some stupid reason my mouse jolted a bit as i was looking at a window and exit the program. I Think they should've added a popup menu with a "Are you sure" question that way it prevents mistakes like that. Its stupide that it doesn't have that feature knowing someone's work could be suddenly stopped or suddenly wiped
i tried to do this with Super Mario world, but i couldn't find the sprites. does this only work with Link to the past or is there a different process for SMW?
Should I literally use YY-CHR to make a sprite of Lori Loud (The Loud House)? I am a fan of The Loud House I have a photo of Lori Loud (The Loud House) in the jpg folder which I use to make a sprite of Lori Loud (The Loud House) in YY-CHR
Hello, thanks for your video. Can YY-CHR change palettes directly, or I I have to paint over the sprites with the colors I want? In a different reply you mention that palette.dat files can be easily edited in a hex editor. If I import the changed file, will YY-CHR commit the changes to the ROM?
Where can I find a palette file for other games besides Zelda? Is there a program that can extract them from a ROM, or is there a website with a list of games of already extracted sprites palettes from different games?
That was a really great tutorial and easily understood. Since you offered to ask questions here, I am really stuck with what I wanted to do. I wanted to edit the Title screen of Super Mario Brothers so change the word "Mario" into something else. I can't for the love of me get this to work. I can't even find the sprites. Only Lunar Magic finds it, but there I can't edit them or import bitmaps. Are you able to help me with this, or at least push me in the right direction? Thank you very much.
yy-chr does support *.dat *.pal *. adf files. Most important it can read the palettes of a ZSNES savestate. Just play the game with zsnes emulator press f2 (default) to savestate when you are sure the palette is loaded into ram and then load the *.zst file in the dropdown Palette in yy-chr (F12). The palettes will be easy to modify with a hex editor when saved as a *.dat file. Also there would be a lot to talk about depending on the graphic tools you are using. May be you like do export as bitmap and not every tool does treat the picture the same and will most likely mess up your work.
I found exporting the .pal from the palette creator to be a better source for the palette data. The one you provide with the download link is only the armor palettes, which doesn't help if you want a special bunny.
I have a lot of troubles finding a working pallette for the Zelda letters in the title screen. It always shows the wrong colors with a save state from the title screen i am using. But the link pallette always works fine. I tried different things like using another rom, another yy-chr version and other save state locations. I'd be very thankful to get some help with this issue!
How do I remove or add sprite screens or whatever they're called with this program? I'm making an nes game and I want to use normal 40k cartridges, for which I can only use 2 of these sprite screens but yy-chr makes 4 by default for me. Can I change that? Thanks in advance.
the main reason I sent you those 2 versions of Super Famicom Box because your sprite tool can open the roms without the need of using emulator to rip the sprites! My Mac won't work with your tools as they are only for Windows!
Tell me how to get new colors to save as well as sprite changes? My sprites work in the rom, but they are the default palette colors instead of the custom palette I made.
YY-CHR cannot edit the palettes used in the ROM. It can only preview them. To edit the palettes in the ROM, you'll have to use something like "Zarby's Palette Creator Tool" Which you can find here drive.google.com/file/d/0BwblHjDHxI_Uc0xOcjN0aXh6LTA/view
Hello. I would need some help with language settings. For some reason it will not load the text in english. but strange characters instead. Did I missed something ?
the characters are scrambled like a moving puzzle when i open any other game. is there a way to edit the graphics of a character in whole? the best i could get was save as bmp and edit in gimp, but it is a minor improvement over the yy-chr editor, which is pretty good itself. but when i want to replace or edit a character the size of a street fighter its a rather tough puzzle. if there only was a way to associate the 8x8 sprites to their respective full images. changing the format in yy-chr doesnt make it any easier. does anybody know a trick or script to associate the 8x8s to a spritesheet in gimp or photoshop? i have some neat ideas for one or two other games and im willing to put in some work.
I know it's been years, but can YY-CHR edit the other sprites apart from Link? I'm trying to change some NPCs. Can't seem to get those sections to configure correctly.
What this video fails to tell you it's that tile editors in general will only work on 1% of the SNES library since most devs used compression for storing the graphic data, so don't get your hopes high if you want to edit other games...
You can load ZSNES emulator save-states into yy-chr (with f12) to get the palette information. If you're not able to get that working, let me know and I'll try to help out.
I wanna change the sprites in Street Fighter 2, can I use the palette file here for that, or is it specific for Zelda ALttP? And if so... how do I get a palette file for Street fighter?
My2CΞnts you might be able to get the palette file you need from a ZSNES save state from that rom it’s saved as a ZST file load it in YYCHR, from what I know save states from other emulators won’t work
Thanks for both replies. I got the palette for SF2, but it works on completely different principles than Zelda. Each character is cut up into at least a hundred pieces, I guess to save space on the cartridge. I think it works on the tile sheet principle, where several pieces can be used to assemble many different characters. A heel, a toe, a corner of a shoulder, etc. also, the palette was in grayscale and some other shades of green. I’m guessing these are placeholder colors, and the computer applies the “real” colors when loading the characters on screen. This would be used if two players play the same character and one needs to be in a differy color. Needless to say I thoroughly gave up, especially since I had drawn completely new sprites that didnt fit into the sheet. Thanks anyway for the help.
Same thing. either we aren't doing it right, theres something he isn't telling us, or the developers were dumb and made an update without testing it and messed it all up
How do I edit the weapons? you know, shields, swords, those that were obtained in the dungeons, etc, I would like to change them but in the rest of the program only pixels appear on all sides ...
I'm trying to find the same. The only thing I've found is when you have the game open in YYCHR and have scrolled to the link sprites, change it from 4bpp to 3bpp in the graphic format and theres more stuff.
Nico Mc Bloxy not one here but you can get one if you load up that game in a ZSNES emulator, save state, then load its ZST file into YYCHR. From what I know only ZST files from ZSNES work.
Boa tarde amigo Fwiller, fazer uma pergunta só para você me dá um norte, eu gostaria de pega o personagem Scias do Breath of Fire 4 (BOF4) e, colocar no Breath of Fire 2, adicionar mais um personagem no BOF2. Muito obrigado
Force Dev you might be able to get an earthbound palette if you save state with that game in ZSNES, after save stating get the ZST file it made then load it up in YYCHR
Hey, Been following this and its helped alot, decided I wanted to get into hacking a link to the past for fun but I'm struggling to find the shield and sword to edit, Any ideas?
WARNING: Saving to the "Sprite.bin" file hasn't been working for some people, so be sure to copy your sprites over to the rom and save the changes to your rom file before quitting, just to be safe.
can we do this on Mac?
can i use yy-chr for each snes-game? other question: is possibly every snesrom "hackable"?e.g. actr*iser?
Speaking of palettes is there any way to get other game palettes
hey, are you currently working on any snes rom game? I've seen some people improving snes and genesis games quite drastically from their original counterparts.
The Legend Of Garfeilf:
A Lasagna To The Past
The Dark World is just an endless monday evening.

thank you man, it worked for me 🤟🏻🔥
does this still work?
this doesn't work for me a save state is not a palette file.
Thanks a lot bro. Alttp is one of my favorite games ever made and this will give me a reason to keep playing it for years and years to come.
Check out the a link to the past randomizer if you haven't already
Wow this is absolutely perfect. Way better than tile editor pro. I guess it depends on the rom, but still this is awesome! Ive just started getting into rom hacking and I am so pumped to start making my own stuff.
Video should be titled: how to edit link and links sprites only, a real tutorial would show us how to get pallete sets for different games
Thanks for the tutorial man, you explained it so well and easily
Holy crap man i was just trying to see if i can get the fish you pick up in the great swamp in the light world from draining the water in the dungeon but you have shown me how to make a rom hack as well you are amazing i am most definetly going to try to make my own rom hacks of these games i love from sprites i already have and or will make of their versions of those games thanks again fellow sprite lover Fwiller :D
Genius man! I ahve been wanting to edit these for years and didn't know the name of the programs to use and never seen how they work

I have a photo of Lori Loud (The Loud House) in the jpg folder which I use to make a sprite of Lori Loud (The Loud House) in YY-CHR
i love how you used garfield instead of just doing some simple recolor
WOW so comprehensive! Thank you so much!!!
what if i want to change the selected colors. i dont want green tunic maybe i want a steel blue or a silver tunic. how would i change it?
Does anyone know where Link's running sprites start and end?
what a cute little tutorial
is there a mario world palette?
Great resource and guide! Any insight into how to change the compressed graphics? Hyrule Magic needs tools from an era long gone by...
Thanks for this video. Very easy for me to get started with this.
very good! IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE BACKGROUND? SCENARIOS ... I wanted to put graphics of oracle of seasons in zelda 3 ...
Hello, thanks for your video. Can YY-CHR change palettes directly, or I I have to paint over the sprites with the colors I want?

Use ZSNES or ZMZ savestate as Pallette
I found exporting the .pal from the palette creator to be a better source for the palette data. The one you provide with the download link is only the armor palettes, which doesn't help if you want a special bunny.
New fan here.. hopenyou have more and more fan. Great tutorial..
Hi! Thank you very much for your nice tutorial!
I'm doing super mario world, but I dont see any sprites. All of it is just random pixels.

I try but the all sprites are just a chaos, theres no another form?
awesome video thanks mang
Thank you for the video, how could I enlarge sprites? For example if I want to make link bigger than his sprite area?
How do I remove or add sprite screens or whatever they're called with this program? I'm making an nes game and I want to use normal 40k cartridges, for which I can only use 2 of these sprite screens but yy-chr makes 4 by default for me. Can I change that? Thanks in advance.

Was trying to edit the sprites for TMNT Tournament fighter, but the sprite grid is so messy.
yeah, same with Super Punch Out.
@@dhfjdhfjsf4599 Man, imagine how awesome it would be creating any type of characters and make them fight in a ring.

Hello.
I would need some help with language settings.
For some reason it will not load the text in english. but strange characters instead.

how would i get the pallets for other games?

is there any good palettes for gba? I can't seem to find a good one that works
excellent and very clear

am i right in thinking if i use a different game I.E castlevania, it will load the pallet for castlevania and i can edit it pretty much the same way
So for the rom, do we use standard or no-intro?
I wanna change the sprites in Street Fighter 2, can I use the palette file here for that, or is it specific for Zelda ALttP?

My2CΞnts you might be able to get the palette file you need from a ZSNES save state from that rom it’s saved as a ZST file load it in YYCHR, from what I know save states from other emulators won’t work

My YY CHR is locked in japanese, do you know how to change it?

Nice vid,subbed and liked,

Do you know a website where I can get a Palette File for a specific game?
How to modify the color palette ?

What about editing the title screen?

I was wondering if you or anybody knew how to get the sprites made here on to the link to the past randomizer website?
I would assume you could create a rom with the sprites you want, open it with the editor, then copy them over to a clean rom
I really need an earth bound pallet
Force Dev you might be able to get an earthbound palette if you save state with that game in ZSNES, after save stating get the ZST file it made then load it up in YYCHR
I should recreate a character from The Loud House using YY-CHR while opening the Super Mario World ROM file

How to edit other sprites? Like enemies etc.
Hey, Been following this and its helped alot, decided I wanted to get into hacking a link to the past for fun but I'm struggling to find the shield and sword to edit, Any ideas?
You have to use zcompress to decompress the graphics in link to the past

Cry
