I have a burning question to ask you. I recently just put in my rebuilt VR6 engine, and unfortunately I get a crank no start / no spark issue. I'm under the strong impression that its missing a ground some where. Is it true that the ECU metal bracket has to be grounded to the ECU rain tray area in order to complete the ground for the car to start? I believe you mentioned it does in the video. If that's the case then that should start up my Corrado 🙏✝️
My understanding is that the ECU does need to be grounded when installed for it to run properly. The heatsink end of the ECU is connected to the ground of the voltage regulator on the circuit board, so... yes that would seem to check out. Even though the harness does connect to ground elsewhere, I've noticed that poor ground issues will cause lots of running issues in the Corrado. Check grounds on the driver side of the motor especially, near the thermostat housing, in addition to the ECU ground point in the rain tray area.
@@CliffjumperCars Wow thanks for your response and conformation on this Brendan, I really appreciate it. Yes I figured that the ECU would probably have to be grounded to the rain tray area, but i just had to double-check. As far as the other grounds, I know I have at least 3 that I can think of. The 1st one is grounded from the negative battery terminal to the chassis behind the battery, going to the upper transmission bolt, behind the thermostat housing the 2nd one is off the ICM ignition control module, connecting to the back of the EGR valve off the driver side of the Cylinder head of the engine block, The last one that nobody sees, it's a metal bracket with 3 M6 nuts with about four ground wires on it mounted behind the alternator in the front which basically runs all the way right and getting grounded somewhere near the battery chassis area. That's all I have on mine for now. Last question on this. Do you know exactly where the throttle body ground is? There's a ground near the TPS, throttle position sensor. If so can you please tell me where yours is? I just need to complete this mission that's all for my engine to start. Sorry for the long response as this is a really important matter to resolve. Thanks for help again and God bless you🙏✝️🏁🏆 Oh yeah and by the way unfortunately, after I grounded that ECU, I still have a crank no start/ no spark and I have a strong suspicion that there could be a break in the ECU harness along the rain tray area some where from me removing it about 3 to 4 times already. The reason I say this, is because I have no communication with the ECU, so after watching several videos on UA-cam about it especially the Volkswagen Jetta crank no start I have a good hunch that's my problem. That is my final update on this if you have anything to resolve this issue please let me know thank you.
@@Eurospec73 hey there... I'm just about to jump back into some Corrado work, so I'll take a peek to see where that throttle body ground may go to. I don't recall off the top of my head where it connects to.
@@CliffjumperCars Hey Brendan, just following up with you. Were you able to find any ground off the throttle body? If so what was the starting and ending point on that? Thanks again man.
My 5-speed 95 VR6 Corrado has been dead for a few months now and it looks like the ECU is the problem. Do you know what other ECU's might work for it? I can't find parts for 95 model. Please help!
The ECU for a 95 VR6 GTi , GLX Jetta or GLX Passat should work for it. Just make sure if your car is the manual transmission, that it has the ECU for the manual transmission, and likewise for the automatic... if it's an automatic, it needs the automatic specific ECU. As long as it has the same ignition & OBD layout (OBD1 vs OBD2).
@@CliffjumperCars Thank you! I scooped up at VR6 Passat ECU with the same part number, so hopefully it will work. Good advice! I may need to pick up an extra one.
I can't sell my old ECU but I can provide you a list of compatible ECU numbers, so can source one where you're at. Here are all the ECU part numbers I've been able to confirm will work in a Corrado VR6 with Distributor ECU Numbers 021 906 258 BJ 021 906 258 CD 021 906 258 DG 021 906 258 J 021 906 258 M 021 906 258 P
Very interesting ! Great video . Keep the corrado videos coming !
Thanks! Will do!
just realized how similar is your car to mine.
Keep making videos, great fun
Thanks! Will do.
I have a swap to vr6 12 obd2.
So i dont know as whats wire is to send power and negative only for turn on engine
Were did you get the tune from?
