Brighter Shores - Are the rooms TOO SMALL?

  • I’ve been covering Brighter Shores for several months now, and after the last video the audience was pretty equally divided. Those people who are fans of OSRS and Runescape are excited for the design and layout of the room-to-room movement that Brighter Shores will utilize, and then in the other camp are people who think this design is going to create rooms that are too small. I think after today’s video people who think the rooms are too small are going to give Brighter Shores a pass, and that is ok. From my Helldivers 2 research the CEO of Arrowhead said “a game for everyone is a game for noone” and that is spot on. Every game has a niche and this room-to-room design is the niche of Brighter Shores.
    So after seeing the new content what camp are you in? The camp of people who are going to play, or the camp of people who are going to take a pass.
    Oh, and if you are still reading the description to this point, go ahead and subscribe to the channel and like the video for your Brighter Shores and other video game updates.
    If you are looking for more information on Brighter Shores, I will be updating this webpage paradoxgaming.... as we get more information.

    I think it is strange if you are on a beach that consists of multiple rooms, and you stand one tile away from the transition line and you cannot see anything that is going on over there even though it is right there in terms of worldspace. Having to cross over that barrier is jarring, and my worry is that because rooms are so small and transition points are very frequent, it will not feel like a pieced together world and it will instead feel like you are walking between instanced rooms that are not actually a part of the world that is shared between the players. Perhaps it would be better to be able to see adjacent areas not blacked out and have it show you what is going on inside them at a lower update rate or something like that, where it makes sense to have line of sight.

      I can absolutely agree with what you are saying in this regard. When the game launches this should be a piece of feedback given and hopefully the team can either make it happen or explain why it can't happen.

    Yeah this aint it. As a new player to OSRS finally trying it, this does nothing but make me want to play the old one. Hopefully theres more content and depth than it seems because it looks like a EA single player survival game made by one dev. Wheres the mmo? Wheres the combat? Wheres the exploring?

    A lot of people have never played or grew up playing games when there was no open world, no realistic graphics, a lot of RNG, a lot of text-based dialogs to read. And guess what.... IT WAS FUN! There is noting wrong this game design. You people asking for open world, or to see adjacent areas. Modern gaming has ruined uniqueness in the aspect of designing a game for fun, not realism. All games now have to be open world or appear to be to satisfy that small corner in our minds that the game will do well just because it's not room-based. As an older gamer, This design is perfect and i can't wait to play it.

      Or maybe guess what? Times have changed and people don't want to go back to 90s graphics. It was fun back then. It is not going to be fun now especially when we have runescape already. Youre an older gamer with no wisdom because you don't understand what an opinion is.

    • @LeafyNebula
      @LeafyNebula 18 днів тому +1

      @@deepakmenon6720 people still play retro games from the 90s. There is a niche for it obviously because tik tok streamers and youtubers upload old classic games from the 90s and people watch and enjoy it. Gamers who enjoy those classics miss when games were just games and fun. And a lot of rpg games were fun without all the bells and whistles we have today. And it doesn’t seem like it matters because every new big game that comes out gets mixed reviews by the gamers. Look at Concord, failed. Alot of MMOs fail. There’s nothing wrong with having something that doesn’t have the standard features in games today. It’s almost like people forgot what were games were.

    I think that John guy pretty much said it - Would be ideal for mobile, but way too much shaded area for PC. I'd ideally like to be able to play it without the shaded areas and grids even if it's still room-to-room. This could at least give the illusion that it's open world for those who want that. Make it optional or something.

    • @ParadoxGamingNetwork
      @ParadoxGamingNetwork  4 місяці тому +2

      Yeah with as big as mobile is, I think it would rock mobile especially with the planned monetization.
      That's not to say it won't do good as a PC game, we just have to get our hands on it to see.

    • @TFrills

    if it was open world with this design, it would do extremely well because I think that has a larger audience. This is Andrew's passion project though so it really doesn't matter to him. He is making a game for himself first and foremost. I am looking forward to more updates. Perhaps it will win me over and I'll love it. I probably don't have time to play it anyway haha.

    I'm looking forward to trying it but the room-to-room style has got me very put-off. It just doesn't look right or feel right. I've always like open worlds. I can't understand why Andrew didn't do an open world. I think the game would be much more popular if it was. It feels like that is the only thing people have a problem with. And of course Andrew would have known that spending 10 years making the game, sure he's done he's research. I just hope there's something we're missing that's going to put it all together, although I can't see what that is. I know this isn't helpful. I just wish it was open world and it seems like 90% of the people that are talking about this game feel the same way. even if the rooms weren't blacked out its truly not an open world. you are kind of forced to take certain paths. At least light up all areas/rooms and give us the illusion that we are in an open world. Like I said he knows what he's doing and I can't see why he chose this.

    • @ParadoxGamingNetwork
      @ParadoxGamingNetwork  3 місяці тому

      He choose this because he's taking us back to Table-Top style games which have a grid system and a path.
      I do agree 90% or more of people are talking about this, but I think many of them will be ok with it once they play it.
      I have a feeling this is something that shows very poorly but may in fact play very well.
      We just have to wait and see.

    Looking forward to the change of pace. The room format will probably make me slow down and enjoy the game, instead of falling back into the efficiency trap.

    • @ParadoxGamingNetwork
      @ParadoxGamingNetwork  4 місяці тому +2

      This I agree with.
      I also find it funny that recently when I've shared ideas for Wartales or Crusader Kings 3 there are people who get upset with how I play. When did gaming become a singular way to have fun and no other options are allowed.

      If making a square instead of seeing the map around makes u explore more and not fall into an efficency trap, im sorry bro. Its not the game. Someone has no self control or understanding. Seeing the world around u IS what makes u explore. I could care less about a grid like map in an mmo. One of the worst designs ever brought up

    Like other's have said. If rooms can be bigger, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. It won't feel very immersive if there's 6 other players in a room, or a trading quarter that's 1/10th the size of the Grand Exchange.

  • @ritwik5774
    @ritwik5774 Місяць тому

    Well it's obvious that this game was made for mobile. Not just the rooms but the general art style with the block terrain. I can't say I'm interested in playing a mobile game on pc. Might be the undoing of this game for non-mobile crowd.

  • @Valdarko

    I think it makes sense for then to go in this direction, since there is nothing worst to an MMORPG then have a giant world map completely empty of players, with smaller maps this creates more encounters with other players
    also imo, maps in brighter shores looks WAY more elegant than runescape was, the moment to moment gameplay looks like ragnarok online which I like very much, can't wait to play

      I agree I don’t mind the room to room at all and especially hearing what the system is used for such as preventing crashing someone’s grind ,griefing , etc but at least make it so it can be disabled/enabled because with the switching from highlighted to darkened it really fucks with my eyes and takes me out of the game and it’s world making it feel a lot more video gamey instead of this big awesome world.
      Some of the indoor sections didn’t bother me quite as much however everything outdoors I’ve seen so far would be unplayable to me and I think it would get rid of a vast majority of people’s complaints of feeling confined while still being room to room to at bare minimum let the shading out a room be disabled so here’s hoping.

    Feels like it's there ( and the tiles ) to serve as the 'unique' aspect to the game, with the fear of those things not being there causing enough people to just call it a RuneScape clone. I'm yet to think of any positive elements this brings to the actual gameplay though.

      I think Runescape players are going to be happy with the game, and that non room based players aren't going to like it.
      That really is just the size of it, and the players who aren't going to be happy are just going to have to accept that and not try to force a change.

    I think it looks cool. Rooms can be of any size it seems. The smaller rooms just have no reason to be bigger, so they're not. I think it's one of those things that people think they would dislike, but it probably doesn't actually affect the experience at all in a Runescape-like game. The game is about building your character at the end of the day. The concept worked and still works even as a text-based game. The room system has a lot of benefits that people don't value yet because they haven't tried it. I don't see this game becoming the biggest MMO but I'm definitely playing it.

      I think this is a really good perspective. Brighter Shores has almost no chance of becoming a top 10 MMORPG and I think Andrew Gower knows that and he isn't phased by it. I think he spent the last decade making a game that he wants the world to have, not a game that will make him another boatload of money.
