X-Men: Trial of Magneto (2021) Theories! | Krakin' Krakoa

- Marvel’s X-Men line made waves this week by announcing “The Trial of Magneto” a series launching after the X-Men’s Hellfire Gala from writer Leah Williams and artist Lucas Werneck. As one of very few mutants who even know about Moira X’s existence and role in setting up Krakoa as the mutant nation, Magneto is, understandably, one of the most central figures of the entire Hickman era of X-Men. Whether literal or not, a trial of Magneto and a focus on his character is going to have major ramification for the whole line.
Today I'll Answer:
What’s the Trial of Magneto about?
Theories for who Magneto may kill and be put on trial for, if that’s even what happens!
Why X-Factor is at the center of the build to the Trial?
Spoilers for discussed comics may follow!

According to Marvel’s press releases:
"THE TRIAL OF MAGNETO will deal with the aftermath of a violent death that occurs on mutantkind’s big night“
"This thrilling saga will threaten the Reign of X and upend the world of mutants. And with the very future of Krakoa hanging in the balance, mutantkind’s relationship with the rest of the Marvel Universe may never be the same.“
So the implication here is at the end of Krakoa’s first inaugural Hellfire Gala, a murder will be committed (apparently just one despite all those Red Wedding theories out there), and Magneto will be either at the center of it, or a prime suspect.

About Comic Book Herald:
My name's Dave, and Comic Book Herald is a labor of love designed to help new, lapsed, and curious comic book readers explore and enjoy the wonderful world of comics. I've been developing reading orders, chronology guides, and detailed comics recommendations since late 2011. Comics can be confusing and intimidating; I try to help.
Saw a tweet that theorized Magneto is gonna kill Conan O'Brien since his show is ending soon (irl). That would be absolutely hilarious
I saw something that said that there IS cameos of real celebrities' at the gala. I think Conan O'Brien is one of them XD
Or maybe he kills MnM 🤣🤣🤣🤣 makes sense too! 😂
@@davidmendez5933 How you know when you're a big Helluva Boss fan... you see this reply and think the "MnM" is referring to M&M aka Moxie and Millie instead of that rapper guy
🤦🏽♂️
I think this trial will definitely incorporate Wanda. There have been clear threads of: Wanda as the pretender, Magneto’s almost savior like role, and definitely the recent definition of murder related laws. This would be a perfect time to address Magenta’s relationship with the pretender... which we haven’t heard much about lately... and how her offspring are allowed on krakoa while she is not
Could potentially tie in to Prodigy's death too. I think all we know is that he was with Tommy in WeHo the night that he died. It might have involved Wanda somehow. With X-factor ending, they'll likely wrap up that story next issue.
Also I hate that X-Factor is ending I LOVE This book, I look forward to it most, with Hellions and Marauders close behind
I'm hoping it has to do with Arrako, like maybe an Arrakoan mutant is killed at the Gala and Magento goes on trial in Arrako
If the murder happens off panel I’m going to go on a limb and say Mystique is framing Magneto. Especially if we don’t explicitly see the murder happen on panel.
I appreciate Marvel wanna ramp up the anticipation for the Hellifire Gala but they’re killing any anticipation I had for this event. We already know, who won the X-Men vote, what the costumes are gonna be, someone is going to be killed and now we know Mags is prime suspect and X-Factor will be investigating it. They really could have chilled on revealing that 😐
Just started the video and finding out X-Factor is ending has made me very sad. I have been really enjoying what they've done with the characters and the artwork in that series so far.
Same!
Seriously. Fallen Angels and Cable make sense to conclude, but this is the first book that feels like it's being flat out canceled
@@TheKaijudist unfortunately I think it's because the x-men fan vote had polaris winning so they don't want to have her in 2 books... so they're just abruptly ending this one. Which is a huge shame.
Same !
@@TheKaijudist I agree: X-Factor had a valid reason to be, the characters were on point (except maybe for Daken, which is very docile), their interactions are a joy to read, and every issue was PACKED, which made the price justified.
A lot of stuff happens in every issue, whereas other series guilty of telling too less in too many pages (Cable, Excalibur, Fallen Angels).
Hopefully X-Factor might show up here and there in other titles or in some annuals.
Something smells like Fabian Cortez. That snake in the grass is up to something and I wouldn't put it past him to frame Mags for some shenanigans. Got to be a reason for bringing his character back around.
I don't think Fabian Cortez is even invited to the Hellfire Gala tho
@@JHDevelopment that would probably be a good reason and opportunity for him to plan an attack
That’s a shame that X-Factor is only getting 10 issues. There’s lots of potential stories for that team to tell.
4realtho, one of the best x-books from this era, real shame it and Cable are coming to an end so soon.
The book meandered... But there was some good characterization
@@HashimWarren name one X-men title with more than 5 issues that hasn’t meandered? My point is considering the team confirms potential mutant deaths there’s potential for lots of stories to be told. I also really liked the team members versus Excalibur or to a lesser extent X-Force
I really hope they're not cancelling the issue due to polaris winning the x-men fan vote. If that's the main reason they're ending x-factor... ohh I'm gonna be so much more mad than I already am about this lovely comic series abruptly ending.
Yeah... I hope one of the new Reign of X books give them some spotlight
In the last video speaking of comics with a clear purpose (and fulfilling it) X-factor has a deliberate and clear story with a dynamic team. I don’t see how this one is getting cancelled before EXcalibur and with the underwhelming introductions of Children of the Atom and X-Corp
I read something about x-factor selling less than Excalibur, so that don’t surprise me
Hey Herald, I love your page and all of your work and research that you put into it. Thank you very much!
Watching this instantly got rid of my headache. Thank you.
I think it’s important to specify that the Krakoan law is “MURDER no man”, and not “KILL no man”. I think that difference might be pretty substantial come Magneto’s trial.
I’d gladly trade Excalibur and X-Corp for more X-Factor
Excalibur has potential given who was show/implied to be in the OTHERWORLD realms. They just need a decent writer and team to make it work
X-factor and Excalibur were two weak books in the end, I wouldn’t be surprised if Excalibur is the next to go
@@TalesHilaricki the basis for X-Factor could have gone on indefinitely as investigations never cease. Plus the team was one of the best especially the way they were written
@@210SAi honestly, both books had good premises and ideas, but both fall flat over time. And personaly, William's write is not the best one, her X of sword issue was by far the most weak and lacked cohesion, and the first issues of x-factor gave me a very generic character interations impresion. But i see now the book had it's niche, so i feel sorry for the fans
I'm going to call it here that Eye-Boy is a would be pre-cog and Mags takes it upon himself to fix the problem
I just read X-Factor #9 and my theory (I hope it won't happen) is that Magneto gonna kill Eye Boy. They are gonna find out about Trevor's powers or he's gonna find out about Moira which will alert Xavier or maybe he is gonna confront Xavier and Magneto about it.
I wonder if Mystique will kill someone and frame Magneto or if Mr. Sinister has a clone of Magneto kill someone and real Magneto is blamed
Perhaps Xorn is back... I mean the first Xorn, the beheaded one
I could very much see it being Mystique, but I could also see it being the Tommy bit as well as Namor....so many options
My guess is that „we always loose“ comes out maybe not the reveal for Moira herself but future knowledge of x^2 like chimera mutants, sinister betrayal
dont know why he'd do it but if it were Rachel he's accused of killing she's a grey area on the resurrections protocol being a timedisplaced mutant and thatd definately cause a rift on krakoa and bring the whole "gabbys resurrection rights" to the forefront.
She died already in X factor by getting killed by the Morrigan and was resurrected with no problem.
Yeah, Rachel was killed along with most of X Factor by the Morrigan. All of them were resurrected without issue and it even shows them fighting their own dead bodies under the morrigans control.
Haven't watched yet, but I've seen people speculating that Magneto could be the murdered one, since The Trial seems to be focused more on X-Factor, which investigate mutant deaths, and Magneto killing another mutant wouldn't be breaking any rules.
Or that he's gonna kill Wanda lol.
I don’t see just Magneto being able to take out Wanda....
What if he killed a Mutant that was going to kill Wanda ... if she's invited
Marvel has released info this will be a 5 issue mini series. Maybe Leah williams will be assigned to a new book after this.
The killing of dupes based on the X-Factor tie in makes a lot of sense because that's a mutant that will not be brought back. Anyone else remember Outer Limit's Think Like A Dinosaur? In it the technologically advanced velociraptor-like aliens kept saying to balance to equation when the transporter system accidentally created a human clone.
My original thought Magneto was offering himself up to the world for trial for all past mutant crimes. It was based on Magneto's speech about past crimes and then the first few lines of the preview about not letting the sins of the past fall on the next generation. While that would be interesting it doesn't fit the X-Factor follow-up.
I think everyone is looking at it the wrong way. X factor is kicking this off. Polaris is in x-factor. She has similar powers and is controlled by the Morrigan. She is also the only mutant Magneto would take the fall for.
Morrigan has already been dealt with is this week's X-Factor issue... So Polaris is clean
@@marcosbarros3592 are you sure??? She did something to
shatterstar and Syrn after she ‘died’
How’s this for a weird stretch theory.
X of swords saw the removal of Apocalypse from Krakoa, and most likely after this trial we will see Magneto gone too.
With that, and all mutants united.
Charles shady self and Moira will try and form some sort world domination which result in the divide in mutants, some would agree and some wouldn’t, and they would need to get Apocalypse and Magento back to stop Charlie and Moira.
Prediction: Mystique frames Magneto
just started the video but I KNEW IT!! RED WEDDING Style Shenanigans!
I definitely think that Mystique will be at the center of the issue but I have my doubts they'd kill her.
Perhaps she murders someone while masking as Magneto???
they don't want to bring back Destiny for her. that's worth killing her over.
@@210SAi I feel like it can't be this simple, wouldn't they just psychically probe magneto's mind and see he didn't do it?
@@JHDevelopment It would likely be a deeper scenario than that. If you're gonna make a play on these people and you have Mystique's track record, something pretty devious is likely to happen
Dang! The X-Factor team is one of my favorites right now.
Really can't believe X-Factor is ending, so much wasted potential. Well, this was too good of an era to be true, I have no idea what they'll do next to kill my hype.
Hey I'd love to see you cover The Rise of Apocalypse
I keep asking why Magneto would kill a mutant if they can just be revived. Sure, he could just do so due to his temper, but that seems... boring? I keep coming back to the idea that the only real reason to kill a mutant that can be revived is to stop the spread of discovered information before it can be backed up in a mutant's cerebro copy. What if a mutant discovers something that Magneto can't allow them to remember? The most obvious, and most exciting, possibility is of course the existence of Moira X.
Maybe it’s not a judicial trial but some kind of contest that tests Erik
I think the big issue is that if a prominent mutant is killed they will have to stay dead, because otherwise they have to reveal that mutants are capable of resurrection to the world. The only people that I know of that are aware of resurrection are Orchis, Jane Foster and maybe Thanos.
Either that or they can no longer leave Krakoa, no more interaction with Humans
This video reminded me that the law is “make more mutants”.
Doesn’t say that they all have to be made the “old-fashioned” way…do chimeras count? What about Children of the Atom? Arrako being added to the numbers also “makes” more mutants. I wonder if this so why Sinister can get away with his shenanigans.
Theory: What if Shaw had something to do with it? Say it's a botched frame job, he was trying to make out Emma to be the killer or just did it to ruin her party? And as for the victim, we have to think it would have to be a character who's big enough to cause a rift but not currently have their own central series. Hmmm. ?🤔?
New theory, what if Wanda is somehow invited (X-men like Rogue and Magik attempting to end the whole Pretender boogey man thing) and a Mutant tries to kill he and he kills the mutant in a fit of rage. The fact he did it in front of humans and stuff like that is why he's going to Trial not going straight to the Pit like Sabertooth.
What if Magneto also destroys the back up or possible resurrection for someone that he kills off?
If you see ForgetMeNot in X-Factor #9, it’s very small but hardly noticeable that he walked past Northstar and Dazzler. I’m stunned! 😂
It would make sense for Magneto to get rid of Raven.
But the problem is : as a member of the Council, she would still be resurrected asap by the five. So killing her is not the solution.
To have her disappear would be a better solution, but X-Factor investigation abilities are very good. They would uncover Magneto's scheme very fast and I think he knows that. Magneto is many things, but he is not a stealth killer capable of a perfect crime.
I don't believe either in a repetition of the past (Magneto being judged by humans for a crime against them) or Magneto betraying Xavier is too early and also too cliché and too expected. The point of Hickman's run is that Xavier and Magneto stopped playing games with one another and do stick together because the threat of A.I. leave them no other choice. At all.
I bet on Magneto being framed to do something bad for the good of Xavier and/or Krakoa in front of a wide audience.
Something that can be understood, but that cannot be pulled under the rug.
This stuff happens in self-defense that end with death of the attacker (Beaten wife that kills her life-long husband abuser, for example) : Yeah, you defended yourself and your life in the moment, which is the right thing to do, but you still killed a human being, which is a big no and has to be punished.
That's what I expect : Magneto doing the right thing, but framed so that he has to be punished or pushed out of the Council.
Here comes the secret Hickman title... X-iles ( I would prefer The Brotherhood as a title)... Magneto, Sabertooth, Selene, and whoever else is down there... maybe even Mystique when she's caught ( and Destiny??).....
All I’m saying is Stingray had better not be killed off again... 😂
Is it possible that the murder thing is a fake-out and this is a trial more in the sense of “The Trials of Hercules” or something?
I'm thinking Reed might get killed by Magneto for finding a way around Xavier's psychic block and making more tech that could be used to harm mutants.
I dont k how how Xavier thought that would work with a whole council of Reeds out there.
My theory is joseph, honey badger, young cable,or young mutant is killed by a shadow king controlled magneto or Mystique impersonating magneto. This is in front of humans so they see this and know whoever is killed can not be brought back or leave Krakoa. If cable, introduces old cable, if honey badger wolverine could go crazy. My other theory is scarlet witch or Quicksilver being murdered by Joseph who looks like magneto creating a split with mutants thinking he killed the great pretenders , splitting the council and mutants, and having them leave off world.
"Why is Magneto on trail?"
... I mean, it's Magneto, it really shouldn't be that surprising
So I think Dave, you’re likely right that Prodigy will be a key character, however I feel that there’s a possibility that all the pieces are already on the board. Prodigy revealed X-Factor that his power gives him psuedo-telepathy in that he can not just absorb knowledge and skills of others around him but memories too (he knew Shatterstar was the key to killing Morrigan bc he was close to Rictor). What is one of the biggest secrets re: murder being kept from him (and most of the Quiet Council) that also could create a lot of outrage and anger? Shaw’s murder of Kate ( and conspiring with Krakoa’s enemies, i.e. Donald Pierce) not to mention the others who were complicit in Kate’s death ( Christian, Shinobi...etc.) *also it doesn’t seem that Emma, Kate and Storm are even aware of the others involved. So Prodigy milling around and becoming aware of that, and Magneto finding out somehow, I feel could set off the event, since it involves (at least 4) Quiet Council members keeping secrets and lying to him (and Xavier).
@17:22, waaaay off topic, but since you mentioned doppelgangers, and it's been bothering me since HoX #4 - isn't the body Gregor shot the same one Cable put a Phoenix seed in, in the 2019 Uncanny X-Men Annual, the one with a bunch of Scotts playing king of the mountain on the cover? So... is the Phoenix seed keeping that body alive? Because as bad as that headshot looked, it didn't look like it would damage Cyke's brainstem. Is Orchis keeping a headless-chicken-Scott running around the station? Or does Orchis just have a Phoenix seed now?
For anyone wondering what I'm referencing with headless chickens, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_the_Headless_Chicken
Where’s #180?
yeah where #180?
He’s killing Ira Glass to finally put an end to This American Life.
it's Mystique. he'll kill her. can't bring back Destiny like they promised her.
She's a member of the Council. Xavier would have to resurrect her ASAP.
He would have NO valid official reason to give to the other Council members for not doing so.
why would they spoil this wouldn't be more fun if these would be revealed after the gala event
Agreed, lots of bad decisions on this franchise after Hickman started to leave the team.
@@BenBen-kt9ox Wait! Hickman wrote the X line/Krakoa. What do you mean he left the team...?
Mystique making her move and framing Magnus?
X-Factor ending and Wolverine solo series and Excalibur still existing is beyond bullshit.
Não vendia irmão, é a vida
If this is an actual trial, I expect some law reworkings
Any mutant could be resurrected…unless it’s someone that they decided can’t come back (like Honey Badger)?
On trial for a crime he did not commit. My prediction is that he's going to be framed.
It's gonna get *messy*
nimrods doing his thanos impression hes inevitable. Maybe instead of trying to stop a.i. development, they should work to mold control and or befriend some. Maybe get a nimrod on the mutants side.
I think it’s might Exodus don’t know why
Hes going to kill prodigy because he is a clone, maybe finds out there are two prodigys
or he kills an arakki mutant,he will go to trial on arakko were we will find out who the regent of sol is(obviously its storm)
It's gonna be a red herring with Mags killing Moira in the open, I don't think she's be outed as a mutant yet has she? So kill no human would apply right?
This seems unlikely because Moira as far as the world is concerned, is dead. Meaning it would be a big reveal that she's alive followed by her death...again. Somehow I think Hickman has bigger plans for her in a story he'll be writing.
And it would make sense for Polaris not to be there because it would be a conflict of interest.
He was framed!
Welp
Now we know.
He's going to kill Namor.
Makes sense. Everyone wants to kill Namor.
"Acclaimed X-Factor book" also it's cancelled.
Acclaimed, but few people bought it
calling him "mags" lmaO
