So what is minimalism to me, what does a minimalist lifestyle look like and how am I changing on our journey to minimalism and having a less cluttered home using the konmari method to declutter.

That is good to hear, I think it is important to simplify your life just to make the everyday less stressful and to learn to appreciate the things you do have and love in life

It really does, we don't need so much clutter, hassle or stuff in our lives really. But we should keep what we enjoy

Totally! It is much easier to keep things clean and tidy when you have less possessions to worry about overall

Thank you! Exactly, its not about getting rid of things just to get rid of it! I keep seeing people throwing away half used things and wonder, why not just take a month to use it up? Its paid for so use it! I have hair stuff, makeup etc that I don’t like but believe you need to use them up instead of wasting them. Just because I have many pairs of jeans, I don’t have to get of any that I like and wear, frankly wearing five different pairs over a few weeks also means less wear and tear and that they actually last longer. It does mean I don’t need to buy more and that is the important part. The 30 day challenge of getting rid of items everyday seems to be just for the sake of getting rid rather than properly using the item someone has. If its no longer wanted or needed, then yes, but not just because you need to find 29 items to remove.

Minimalism isn't about aving the least amount possible but about using/appreciating all that you DO have. I, for example, have a pretty small amount of clothes compared to most people and yet for some minimalists I must seem like Marie Antoinette at her worst! The thing is I, like you, enjoy clothing. I love fabrics and colors and mixing and matching and all of that. I own 7 pairs of shoes which is CRAZY for some minimalists and CRAZY for someone else. It's all about finding where you feel comfortable and not trying to be like anyone else. We have plenty of plates and even enough cups to not wash for a week and not have an issue. That's okay though because it's what we feel happy with and we do use them all (big tea and coffee drinkers) so it's good enough for us.

Exactly, I think as long as you are happy that is obviously the overall important thing! Reducing the excess and unwanted, unloved items is the way to reach that happy point when it comes to belongings. You sound like you ahem gotten to that happy place with your home and stuff

My husband grew up in a 1200 square foot house with 5 boys and 2 parents. I think people think they need all this space but I don’t think they do.

Totally, you can live in a much smaller space than people realise

The more space, the more you buy to clutter it up. The less space, the less incentive to buy useless furniture etc. It is so much better to spend your money on a nice trip (and even there we don't need to go in a hotel, a camping ground is so much more fun), a concert or for the sauna.
