Would G-Man be considered a villain? I mean he’s a shady character who’s clearly up to something but he never actually opposes Gordon. In fact, if anything he seems to have a vested interest in making sure Gordon accomplishes his missions. So if anything he could be argued to be an anti-hero or an ally. Or maybe a neutral third party at worst.
Rhea is a potential villain as well not just Edelgard. She burned Faurghast (an allied country) down and performed an experiment on a newborn baby. Not only that but Rhea's solution to everything is to execute anyone who is against the Church. Both Edelgard and Rhea are somewhat similar, different is that Edelgard cares about the MC while Rhea cares more for Sothis.
Surely in Silent Hill 2, the villain hiding in plain sight is James himself given he's responsible for everything happening to him and, you know, the fact that he secretly..... You know... And then repressed the memory. Sorry, don't want to spoil the big reveal for the 7 people that haven't played the original ahead of the remake.
After Morrigan, Anders, and Solas, one wonders which mage companion is going to be manipulating us in Dreadwolf... Also Markarth might be my least favorite hold in Skyrim. Windhelm might be filled with horrifically racist Nords, and Riften might be built on a literal swamp, but Markarth's beds are made of stone and if I'm not sleeping on the ground in Skyrim, I want a mattress, dammit.
I think it is going to be the Mage Assassin this time round. Lucian is named too similarly to the Old God to me and I don’t see them doing another Mage.
FE: 3 Houses takes more of the “Everybody sucks” approach than clear good vs evil. Dimitri turn downright murderous and church’s lies and manipulative control is just gross. Edelgard says multiple times that she wants to do away with the current system and start a Republic, which is far from some power hungry ruler. She was born into a bad situation, saw through the manipulative bs, and concocted a plan for change. She’s the only clear heroine in the story as far as I see. She still got her issues though. Claude was just kind of there and didn’t do much to drive the story. His whole campaign was rather forgettable.
Edelgard is a villain hidden in plain sight? Try again with Rhea! Rhea is the reason for Edelgard’s descent into villainy! And Edelgard’s motives are justified! Heck, where is Mr. Grizz from Splatoon 3?! He first appeared as a voice in Splatoon 2, and many people correctly assumed he would be the main villain of Splatoon 3 because he didn’t pick a side in the Chaos Vs Order Splatfest.
@@drakkar33 Yeah. Rhea shouldn’t have been trusted. Edelgard has understandable motives and an understandable plan for overthrowing Rhea, and while Three Hopes has an alternate universe Edelgard that makes her realize what she is doing is wrong, especially in the Golden Wildfire route where Dimitri, Claude and Edelgard don’t go killing each other, I consider Rhea the true villain of all of Three Houses as all of the things that happened in Three Houses happened because of her.
Pretty much. As soon as a few things go wrong Rhea jumps into the genocide option. I had no issues taking her and her family out even though she's technically a family member, but I still let emperor Edelgard finish her off since it was her quest and I was just tagging along.
Regardless of whether you think Edelgard's a villain, it's kinda semi-easy to see (Black Eagles route especially) she's the Flame Emperor. Both use axes, Edelgard is next in line to BE Emperor, both have the Crest of Flames, both have a black/red color scheme (for Adrestia), in the Black Eagle route Edelgard almost confesses to Byleth (while asking whether Byleth could see siding with the F.Emperor), and if you listen, you can tell the F.Emperor is voiced by Tara Platt (Edelgard's VA).
I keep being surprised that Divinity 2 (not Original Sin) keeps missing lists like this. The dragon knight you find on her dying moment, who gives you your powers, who guides you through the game, turns out to be the wife of a big bad. And after you bring her back to life, she imprisons you, and you get to watch as she and her hubby conquer the world (save for one town from which you take them down in the expansion).
I'd also add Mr Blue Eyes from Cyberpunk 2077. What a lot of people see as the comparably happiest ending to Phantom Liberty (helping So Mi escape) might actually be its worst because of his involvement. Since he was the one who arranged for So Mi to escape to the Crystal Palace, she's more than likely ending up in the hands of the entity (either someone/something Blue Eyes is working for, or Blue Eyes himself) that was brainwashing the Peralez family. All we know about him is he's involved with an organization that rewrites people's minds to maintain control of Night City politics, that Johnny suspects said organization to be controlled by rogue AI, he hires V to perform what will likely be a high profile assassination on the Crystal Palace (if you got that ending), and that he arranges to send So Mi to the Crystal Palace to acquire the tech that was killing her by breaching the Blackwall (where all the hostile AIs were quarantined). By making choices that help him, V may very well bring on an AI apocalypse.
How about the Bobd's in The Bard's Tale? They recruit anybody and everybody to be "The Chosen One", including children, whom you see die in various humorous, yet horrific ways including walking into lava while screaming "I'mthe chosen one!", and being devoured by wolves because they thought that being "The Chosen One" meant they couldn't die before succeeding in their "quest". The quest being to free the lady Caleigh, who turns out to be a dommy mommy demon. You yourself get the option of siding with this demon for one of the endings.
Assassin's Creed 1 is a brilliant game. I just replayed it and i love it even more than in 2007. There's so much more to it than i realised back then. The combat is the best in the series, AC2 was a big step down. Classic parkour is the best movement system. The story is great and stuffed into every bit of the game.
People didn't realize Solas was a villain? How much more did they need? I figured it out during the prologue when he stuck the hand of the Inquisitor into the Veil rift to close it and you are literally told (by Cassandra if I remember correctly) he was the only mage that knew what to do to save you. (Also given BioWares track record I expected a Mage to backstab me) If that wasn't enough, he tells you what the orb Corypheus has in his possesion is and that it is elven in origin after the fall of Haven. Plus if you take him with you or talk with him, his conversations with other characters and comments are a dead give away. Specially if you were paying attention to the lore in the first two games and Inquisition itself. Plus uh BioWare does have the tendency to make mages betray you and Vivian was a bit too obvious to be the villain after all Orlesians back stabbing people is a national game for them, Dorian was charming but it was a bit too obvious he wasn't going to be the antagonist as they wanted show not all Tavinter mages were evil. And in the first two games Elves were...well they are sympathetic but were always troublesome and had a tendency to betray you rather easily if you picked the wrong conversation options (Merill is still best girl in DAII) so all that to say Solas was obviously the Villain. I'm honestly expecting a Mage companion to betray me in Veilguard. You see Mages, this is why the Chantry wants to keep you all locked up, and BioWare does you no favors with having the betrayer be a Mage in every single game.
Edelgard is definitely a villain. She had her reasons and the things she does (from her perspective) enact positive change and rules justly… she still killed thousands and betrayed everyone.
Was Adachi being the villain that big of surprise to players? Pretty quickly while playing, I was sure he was the villain unless there was going to be a late game out of nowhere switch and it was the main character’s uncle pulling the strings the entire time.
