I guessed correctly, thinking the CS Strat had a more articulate sound, especially when gain and high gain was applied. You are correct in that I would want neither one. I've discovered after having a tring a couple strats that they don't ring my bell like a tele style does. Fun as always, Landon!

Im trying to find a Classic 50s Squier Strat. Those things have perfectly slim necks ,lightweight, habe killer sounding pickups, play great and are built well. Changes : Even though i like the stock pickups ,I would change them out for a set of DiMarzio HS--2 pickups simply because they are my faviritw single coil style, plus, switching these tone packed pickups to single coil really provides a truly sweet and authentic vintage tone. I had one that exact colour blue. Accidentally dropped it and exposed the wood underneath. Curiosity got the better of me because of ply over 7 pieces of scrap wood glued together. After I removed the rest of the finish of course. Was very disappointed in Fender doing this and according to Fender you only get a 2 or 3 piece body on high end and Custom Shop Fenders. Not your standards or painted guitar bodies. After that I’m more of a PRS and Godin customer unless older natural finishes. My 2010 blue standard USA is now black.

Writing before reading comments or hearing the answer. I prefer guitar Y on neck and middle, and guitar X on the bridge pickup. Seems like guitar Y has higher output pickups (or just the pickups set closer to the strings?) which (to me) works fine on the neck and middle, but gets a little too woolly on the bridge.

As a casual guitarist with an extremely limited skill set, I have learned that a good setup on an inexpensive guitar will make it play similar to a guitar that costs hundreds, if not thousands more. I encourage those who are interested to invest in the inexpensive tools required and spend the time to learn how to setup your guitar the best way possible for you. It is not difficult and you can share the skills that you learned with your friends in the guitar community.

I recently started looking into the Custom Shop stuff because I thought I could get parts to customize the Squier stuff. Nope. They are also NOT the top ones because the Master Build ones start at about twice as much AND then the guitar store guy starts going on and on about the cost of vintage ones after I've already pretty much explained that I'm trying to have fun with SQUIER ones, but there seems to be some nice options but if you want your g to look all tricked-out like the guys on TV, is good luck with that for any reasonable Price Range. I'm not the sort of person who feels aesthetics makes one guitar worth 10x another. Nor am I that impressed with "out of the box" set up (because every guitar needs some TLC eventually). Here is an idea for a comparison I would like to see. Have the same person (ideally yourself unless that is not a skill set you have) set up each guitar as close to identical as possible (same strings, same relief, same action, perfect intonation, same PU height). Do any fret work if needed (rounding ends, leveling high frets, polishing). And then play each guitar blindfolded - standing and sitting, unplugged, and in an amp. What would you perceive the differences to be? My gut feeling is that, if the $430 guitar has "good bones" you could invest a lot in making it just as amazing (as a player - not necessarily as eye candy) as the $4300 guitar for a tiny fraction of the price. New PU, tuners, bridge if needed, case ... But I would love to be proven wrong and find there is some super power the $4300 guitar offers (beyond cosmetics). Can you give me a reason to justify spending $4300? Please?

As soon as you go over (maximum) 1000 € price tags, there isn't much if any improvement in the guitar. The rest are bells and whistles, stuff for collectors, pazzazz, etc.

The hypocrite part made me laugh hard. I said a few years ago I said to a professional musician friend of mine that a Les Paul was too much guitar for me because I wasn't good enough and I just bought one today. He laughed at me this evening on discord. Cheers, Landon.

I’m clearly not an audiophile as I can’t discern an order of magnitude’s difference, which is why I can’t bring myself to drop thousands on Gibson and US Fender given the abundance of modestly priced guitars along with kits and tools out of StweMac.

Ok I might be stupid but aren't there "real" Fender strats somewhere around $1200? I mean, why do you have to get so high up in price to get a decent sound? I have always said that nothing is "worth" more than anyone is prepared to pay for it. BTW, my regional Thomann website lists 283 variations of Fender strats, and 73 Sqiuer strats, of which the most expensive is around $550. It's a jungle..

They pretty much sound the same, even clean - the CV is a bit warmer & the CS is a bit brighter - and that's a lot to pay for a fancy-boy headstock & neck-back. In fact, the CV board actually looks better imo.
Also, what's up with that 11" radius? Nothing "Fender" about that.

I love strats but there's no way I'd ever pay 4300 for one. The custom shop one sounded better but def not 10x better. I'll just stick with what I find on Reverb.

Personally wouldn’t go under $400 USD if buying online. You can go as low as possible if you’re buying in person but you need to already know “what a good guitar feels like”. Paradoxically makes it to where only experienced guitar players can afford to buy cheap guitars lol.

The bloke who hand wound those pickups wasted his time. I was totally convinced the cv was the custom shop and I had earphones.
