Get the Squier & have money left for a trip to Europe.
Go to Romania and get robbed!
@@Dogetheunand get turned into a vampire 🧛
@@Dogetheun I spent a few weeks in Romania and it was awesome. Transylvania is absolutely gorgeous. If you ever get the chance, definitely check it out!
I’d take a guitar and a trip to my amplifier over any other destination any day
@@BoltRM AHHH
0:53 The “both made on earth” made me spit my water out. 😂
water is easy to clean up
Honestly preferred the tone of the CV. But both sounded great. And young Bill Murray always makes me laugh. Loved you in Ghost Busters.
I always appreciate that you play some of the same baseline samples across all your demos. Makes hearing differences easier.
I’m so happy to see you grinding content and sticking with your passion and growing the channel/community of like minded guitar heads! Keep it up man! Even on the hard days!
After 45 years of playing I can tell you without a question what makes a guitar sound great, a great amp a great player. That's facts. 😊
Couldn't agree more!
“Both made on Earth” has to be the greatest line ever used in a guitar comparison video! I nearly spit out my coffee laughing. 😂
I guessed correctly, thinking the CS Strat had a more articulate sound, especially when gain and high gain was applied. You are correct in that I would want neither one. I've discovered after having a tring a couple strats that they don't ring my bell like a tele style does. Fun as always, Landon!
Really nice video and both great sounding guitars! Awesome playing man
Custom shop looks beautiful and sounded better to me. I still don’t think it’s worth 10 of the CV Strats. But, if you have the $$ for it, why not go for it. Otherwise CV is damn good 👍
Congratulations on your new purchase! Hopefully it’s a forever guitar!!
I think the end summed it up….you’re a FUN GUY😃
I thought Y sounded brighter which I didn't like, but that seems like something that can be adjusted in EQ somewhere. Comes down to what's going to excite you more when you pick it up. That flame maple neck is great.
Really subtle difference, it really comes down to you, your hands and other gear how it sounds. On the other hand, how it feels to play, how it responds and gives you feedback to your attack is where it's really at and that is where the real difference will lie....🎸🤘🎸
Keep it up Landon! Your videos have been great!
Thanks a ton!
Cheers, Landon. We sure get some bang for our buck these days.
I guessed right !
I’ll take a classic vibe in red And blue and pocket the cash. Great video Lando
Im trying to find a Classic 50s Squier Strat. Those things have perfectly slim necks ,lightweight, habe killer sounding pickups, play great and are built well. Changes : Even though i like the stock pickups ,I would change them out for a set of DiMarzio HS--2 pickups simply because they are my faviritw single coil style, plus, switching these tone packed pickups to single coil really provides a truly sweet and authentic vintage tone. Great Video🎸👍
Or just get the '60s classic vibes squire to start. I got the Chicago music exchange exclusive fender special run Stevie Ray Vaughan inspired one. $389 new
@@greg6509 cool. Thanx. I like maple fretboards --the guitar you mentioned has rosewood--- I'm willing to buy it though.🎸👍
I guessed right. The custom shop sounded way better to me. But I'd rather buy the Squier and swap out the pickups. Or just build my own strat with a roasted maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and underwound pickups.
Nothing wrong with that
Got it right, but I have a SCV60’s strat, so it was easy for me. Can I just buy a custom shop neck for my SCV?
🤣 luv your comedic humor.....great content!😄👍
Glad you enjoy it!
I got it right only because I have the cv. Definitely serviceable after a nut change and a good setup.
"Both made on earth"
~Landon Bailey
For now!
I had one that exact colour blue. Accidentally dropped it and exposed the wood underneath. Curiosity got the better of me because of ply over 7 pieces of scrap wood glued together. After I removed the rest of the finish of course. Was very disappointed in Fender doing this and according to Fender you only get a 2 or 3 piece body on high end and Custom Shop Fenders. Not your standards or painted guitar bodies. After that I’m more of a PRS and Godin customer unless older natural finishes. My 2010 blue standard USA is now black.
Funny, I liked the Squire in the blind test. More lively and "stratty" somehow. I would get 10 Squiers (maybe mix it up, like 3 strats, 2 teles, a jazzmaster or two and a jaguar) for shure.
Writing before reading comments or hearing the answer. I prefer guitar Y on neck and middle, and guitar X on the bridge pickup. Seems like guitar Y has higher output pickups (or just the pickups set closer to the strings?) which (to me) works fine on the neck and middle, but gets a little too woolly on the bridge.
X and Y, both sounds good, just like an electric guitars should, and I was wrong with guessing.
This video is very useful.
Cool idea - guitars as weights. How many reps can you do?
Nice - Next do Daisy Rock vs. Wildwood spec Gibson custom
which neck profile do you like better? does it make a huge difference?
While listening I thought they both sounded fine, but I liked guitar Y just a littler better. If I had the money for either one, I'd get the Squier and spend the rest on a nice amp to go with it. I doubt I'd get either one, though... I work the frets with my right hand, and I don't care for the few options that Fender makes for that in any of their models.
You played both guitars through a BLUE AMP!?! The fix is in!
Bought a used candy apple red Affinity for 75.00. Put another 400.00 in upgrades, leveled the frets, polished them and set it up. Plays and sounds great at a fraction of the price. Just don't have that sweet flame maple neck.
that is a nice chair!
Wow I got it wrong! 😮
I'm usually good at these challenges.
Wow. Lol I got it wrong. But I liked the sound of the Squire better. But I'm sure the Custom Shop feels much better in the hand. Again, I liked the sound, but they were very close
Great video! How about a comparison between a Fender a ultra and a custom shop? TIA
maybe one! I've never tried a Fender Ultra
I liked the sound of the Princeton amp the best.
12:41 those pots may be cheap but they ain't mini. It is late here in the UK so my sense of proportion is compromised.
Landon, sometimes watching you and hearing you talk breaks my head..... which is why I keep coming back!
Squire all the way!!!❤
Bought a Squier Jaguar. Pick ups not good. Changed pick ups and tremolo and now it rocks!! I have an American Original that is slightly better but not that much..
The mint green pickguard would look better on the red🤔
I put a mint green pearlescent pick guard on my candy apple strat and it looks amazing...Oddly enough I also have a Classic Vibe in the same blue, lol
I can completely understand the cost difference between the two. But my playing ability isn’t even in the $400 range. So I’ll be looking at the Squier and then possibly getting a pickup upgrade.
5:47 - 6:00
is a great riff
save it
the run going up the neck tho' after it sounded off 📴
i would probably discard that part
and come up with a ' different ' turnaround type to finish it
Surprised there’s no string tree on the custom shop strat (unless I just don’t see it)
They wanted to keep the cost down as much as possible
Ohhhh hey Lando you're using the Princeton now instead of the.....AC15 I think it was. Sweet.
I still have an ac15 on the bottom shelf
Got the message from Sweetwater today about Fender increasing prices on August 10.
Meanwhile, I'm meeting a stranger in a parking lot tomorrow to buy a "Starcaster by Fender" with a case for $30.
Lucky star casters are awesome
@@Dogetheun This will be my first experience with one. I'm working on swapping inlays, learning fretwork, general guitar setup stuff, so for $30 I thought it would be perfect to practice on.
I'm hoping this isn't some Craigslist yahoo jerking my chain.
@@DogetheunI got a 2004 p-bass model, with the pointy headstock, replaced all the hardware and electronics with genuine fender, it turned out so good I sold my heavy-ass MiM p-bass and kept the starcaster
Have you thought about trying the Squier Contemporary Strat on this channel? It’s roasted maple neck is easily the best neck I've ever felt on any guitar! It's also got a full-sized sustain block and contoured neck heel unlike the CV!
I thought about it 4 times
@@landonbailey Yeah it’s even more of an underdog guitar compared to the CV! Maybe if Squier added more colors it would be even more popular? 🤔
I'd definitely dig to see him cover them. I've always overlooked the Contemporary line
As a casual guitarist with an extremely limited skill set, I have learned that a good setup on an inexpensive guitar will make it play similar to a guitar that costs hundreds, if not thousands more. I encourage those who are interested to invest in the inexpensive tools required and spend the time to learn how to setup your guitar the best way possible for you. It is not difficult and you can share the skills that you learned with your friends in the guitar community.
Great video! It just shows how there are great guitars for all budgets.
CV wins. Low enough price to be a first guitar (my 8th), good enough quality to go on tour with.
I was wrong. Hockey analogy? What’s the difference between a Stratocaster and a hockey stick being dropped on the ice? Hockey stick has more sustain 😂. I have Strats,no shiny blue. Nice video, Landon.
I had to listen to the blind test 3 times before I got it right.
I recently started looking into the Custom Shop stuff because I thought I could get parts to customize the Squier stuff. Nope. They are also NOT the top ones because the Master Build ones start at about twice as much AND then the guitar store guy starts going on and on about the cost of vintage ones after I've already pretty much explained that I'm trying to have fun with SQUIER ones, but there seems to be some nice options but if you want your g to look all tricked-out like the guys on TV, is good luck with that for any reasonable Price Range. The good news is, Fender has some decent guitars from between $800-$2000, right?
Yes, I knew which one was which in the sound test for a change.
Maybe these Squier pickups are better than the Standard ones?
I think it's bad luck to talk about hockey in summertime.
I keep going back over and over to see if I made a mistake. The Squier sounded MUCH better to me, MUCH clearer. I was so sure the Fender would be better.
So hard to believe the Squier beat the Custom Shop in every single category
May I have a BLT with that BTC? An airbag? Would that be OKNOTOK?
I thought the Custom Shop sounded richer and more articulate, but not 10X more. That’s the beauty of the Squier Classic Vibe. It’s a great guitar as-is and can be made to sound just as good as the Custom Shop with a few minimal upgrades.
I'd rather have the Squier. The anxiety of owning a guitar that expensive would drive me nuts! Any scratch or ding might induce a stroke or heart attack...
That shredmaster Radiohead tone sounds great.
the best guitars are purple.
Again, I wanted the Squier to win. Interestingly, I thought they were equal but different tone-wise. I leaned toward the brighter Custom, but I thought it was the Squier during the blind test.
Get the Squier, then get onto the Stratosphere and put a nice Fender neck on it and a set of Custom Shop pickups. Spend another $2500 to $3000 on a good tube amp and you'll have a rig that will sound every bit as good as what the CS guitar will give you and some change in your pocket.
You’ve come a long way from Tele-only boy. Still waiting on the Rickenbacker vs Danelectro.
*"You already know which one is better"* - Yeah, totally! Red guitars sound better than blue ones! Much warmer! Just like guitars with dark fingerboards sound warmer than ones with full-maple necks! 😄😉 PS: "They're both Michael Bolt-ons" 😂👍 There's actually a Bolton Street in my 'hood! 😀 I still haven't found Setneck Street, though 😄
First time I ever got one right - Duh… The most lopsided comparison ever… They both sounded very good - blue much better clean and low gain. Seemed to muddy up at higher gain… CS is clearly superior, but 10X better?
I like the tone of having an extra $3870 in my bank account with the Squier
it sounds like cha-ching! $$$$
I like the maple fretboard better. Ooh dang wrong comparison. That's my guitar
I'm not the sort of person who feels aesthetics makes one guitar worth 10x another. Nor am I that impressed with "out of the box" set up (because every guitar needs some TLC eventually). Here is an idea for a comparison I would like to see. Have the same person (ideally yourself unless that is not a skill set you have) set up each guitar as close to identical as possible (same strings, same relief, same action, perfect intonation, same PU height). Do any fret work if needed (rounding ends, leveling high frets, polishing). And then play each guitar blindfolded - standing and sitting, unplugged, and in an amp. What would you perceive the differences to be? My gut feeling is that, if the $430 guitar has "good bones" you could invest a lot in making it just as amazing (as a player - not necessarily as eye candy) as the $4300 guitar for a tiny fraction of the price. New PU, tuners, bridge if needed, case ... But I would love to be proven wrong and find there is some super power the $4300 guitar offers (beyond cosmetics). Can you give me a reason to justify spending $4300? Please?
That would be a fun comparison!
How about a Sire VS a Fender?
Can you hear a difference? Fender Professional II Telecaster VS Sire Larry Carlton T7
ua-cam.com/video/G5pdu3S4L4Q/v-deo.html
I just came here to correct all the people who misspell "Squier," despite it being in the title of the video, on the headstock and on the neckplate.
I’m a strong advocate for the bottom of the line Squiers. Is an 800 dollar MIM Strat 4 times the guitar that an Indonesian Bullet Strat is? Not to me. Plenty of room in the budget to mod whatever I want too.
Black and gold. Bruins = early 50s style tele.❤
.. i love Landon's presentation/production~ always! .. he has a Martin Short/Canadian-type sort of humor to me .. sending love and positive vibes to Landon !.. i'm not weird but talk to Jaggy (My:Jaguar) and NO?... she ...will not let me date anyone else at this time~ she informs
You are the Norm McDonald of guitar reviews. 👍🥳✌️
I loved him!
I like Y more, but can't say is it Fender or Squier
I did the BTC twice and was wrong both times. I blame the speaker on my vintage telephone
Same shirt.
Got them right, but just luck, I think? Or it's because I have the Classic vibe 60's Strat in the same color... and know the sounds. I would never pay the prices for custom shop even if I had the money.
That was easy to guess, squier was so dark and had fart instead of sound on mild gain, custom shop was rich and bright.
I thought it was easy. it's even in the official Squier specs: 'A tribute to the 1960s evolution of the Strat®, the Classic Vibe ‘60s Stratocaster creates incredible fart tone courtesy of a trio of Fender-Designed alnico single-coil pickups.'
Y sounded fuller and more like a Strat to me. But for someone who's starting out, the Classic Vibe is more than good enough. As soon as you go over (maximum) 1000 € price tags, there isn't much if any improvement in the guitar. The rest are bells and whistles, stuff for collectors, pazzazz, etc.
WHAT, no Vancouver Canucks?!?
The red one sounds redder than the blue one
I literally had my jaw on the floor when I saw the squire was the x guitar. It sounds leagues better
Was your floor clean?
The hypocrite part made me laugh hard. I said a few years ago I said to a professional musician friend of mine that a Les Paul was too much guitar for me because I wasn't good enough and I just bought one today. He laughed at me this evening on discord. Cheers, Landon.
I’m clearly not an audiophile as I can’t discern an order of magnitude’s difference, which is why I can’t bring myself to drop thousands on Gibson and US Fender given the abundance of modestly priced guitars along with kits and tools out of StweMac.
Ok I might be stupid but aren't there "real" Fender strats somewhere around $1200? I mean, why do you have to get so high up in price to get a decent sound? I have always said that nothing is "worth" more than anyone is prepared to pay for it. BTW, my regional Thomann website lists 283 variations of Fender strats, and 73 Sqiuer strats, of which the most expensive is around $550. It's a jungle..
You don’t
They pretty much sound the same, even clean - the CV is a bit warmer & the CS is a bit brighter - and that's a lot to pay for a fancy-boy headstock & neck-back. In fact, the CV board actually looks better imo.
Also, what's up with that 11" radius? Nothing "Fender" about that.
Ah yes! My favorite… srtatocaster
I love strats but there's no way I'd ever pay 4300 for one. The custom shop one sounded better but def not 10x better. I'll just stick with what I find on Reverb.
I like your channel, but I don't know why.
same
Red is the Wings, c’mon!
Wow you fooled me 🙏
Sounds better the red
Personally wouldn’t go under $400 USD if buying online. You can go as low as possible if you’re buying in person but you need to already know “what a good guitar feels like”. Paradoxically makes it to where only experienced guitar players can afford to buy cheap guitars lol.
Landon, i'm not telling you that i'm silly just to inform you ..i am like, "alien level silly" ..what do i do now?
What's not fair is your blue t-shirt. Obvs. Should have gone with purple.
I liked the CS best (sounds)... But it's not worth it...
The bloke who hand wound those pickups wasted his time. I was totally convinced the cv was the custom shop and I had earphones.
