I have a 240 Jackery and I run an Alpicool refrigerator 24/7. I discovered that when the Jackery is connected with the refrigerator but is not needed because the temp is low, automatically turns itself off, saving battery. Also for me it charges very fast..

I also have the jackery 500 with a 100W solar panel, I have only just got this but it is looking as though it will run continuously with this setup.

These are great for powering refrigerators, small electronics, and other stuff, but I always like to hear how everyone keeps them cool in summer heat. Vehicles get super hot so it is great to see how everyone gets creative to keep it cool.

Ervins Farms / I purchased one of those with a high top & 130,000 miles on it for $800 ; that was 5 years ago. I put 60,000 miles on it before I totaled it. It ran good, but had one bad cylinder & head gasket issues, so it used oil & antifreeze .Now I have a GMC of the same year...

(Let Jackery know advertising through you, works) I recently dry camped ion the Jackery 440 for 4 days, charging my iPhone and iPad so I could do my blog and internet, and after 4 days, I still had 70% power left. When I got back to my s&b and had it completely recharged off my solar system in no time!
Northern Girl I use Shore Power or 12 v. Cig lighter. I plan on adding the Jackary solar panels, but haven’t yet. I got 4 days, 3 nites and still had 70% power, and then recharged on shore for maybe a couple hours or less? I was surprised how fast it recharged.
I've been using the smallest Jackery power station along with the 100w solar panel it came with in my short bus skoolie conversation and I seriously am in love. I've been nothing but impressed with the input and output speeds and ability. So worth it. Thanks for confirming and telling the world!

I am adapting my car until I get my van. With a no build and extension. Why wait with what you can do sooner, with what you have now, you can do it instead of tomorrow. Work with what you have for now is my advice to see what works and what power you actually need. Tomorrow may never come. I put off buying the Jackery for 3 years but still went exploring outdoors and camped with what I had. Just live as you don't know if you will be alive tomorrow.

I have a Jackery 240 and use it for my Telescope mount.. Its an amazing and well built piece of kit, solid. Highly recommended and would last me for 3-4 nights before charging easily.

I primarily got my Jackery 500 as a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to my CPAP at home. I'll take it with me when I travel (camping, etc). I learned from much research, Jackery is the only I can find in it's class and price range ($499 on Amazon) that has a regulated DC output. This is very important feature, that all the brands should have. For those that don't know, regulated DC power means it will do a constant ~12vdc as the battery is discharging; unregulated - the DC output will drop as the battery loses charge through use. Anyways, just an important tip and no I don't work for Jackery.
I'm also looking at the larger Jackery. The only negative on the 440 is that you cannot charge off of your vehicle's 12v system. The 2 smaller Jackerys you can charge while driving.
Another great review. My Jackery 240 is in my cart waiting for May 20th, and will be making the trip to Alaska with us in June in our truck camper. Stay safe and stay "Weird" Cruz and Chrome.
Made it all through this winter with just my car's 12v plug to charge my phone, AA powered LED x-mas lights, a flashlight & a 15 deg F down sleeping bag...but it rarely gets below 35 deg F around here.

Thanks for the info on those 2 models, I will soon be embarking on a van build. While I plan on a deep cycle battery for main power system, I think one of the smaller Jackery's makes perfect sense as a backup for those times when you think the Deep cycle was at full charge but wasn't.

Other differences between the 500 and the 240: AC: 500 sustained 500 watts (100W surge) of power vs 200W (400W surge) Battery Size: 518Wh/144,400mAh vs 240Wh/67,000 mAh DC Input: 500 input takes 12V-30V, 3.5a, 100W max which means you can use 12v or 24v solar panels and charge quicker; 240 maxes at at 42W input So if you have even 1 solar panel that's 100W, go with the 500 model to really make use of the panel or really, set up your own battery bank.
Could you run an AC unit off these batteries everything else I know they can handle for what I need on the daily. The AC to cool off for Boondocking for long periods of time in a Hot climate is what I'm wondering about.

I see how you did it, but, how did you get everything plugged in, since cables arent that long? How did you get all led lights plugged in at same time? Am I missing something? Thanks.
You connect all of the positive wires together and do the same for the negative ones. Then run those to the plug. To do this, he most likely used a terminal distribution block. It is basically a piece of metal with screws in it, mounted on something non conductive. Basically you put an incoming wire under each screw and tighten them down. That connects them all together. You of course need 2 of these... one for positive and one for negative. If you have sensitive stuff you plan to connect you might want to have one of these (the positive side one) be an actual fuse block. Bottom line, in order to do what he is suggesting you basically have to do what he claims this device prevents you from having to do... electrical work. WAIT there's more... All of the above assumes the devices you are connecting like this are low wattage. Because that plug he is using will only safely conduct so many watts. Not a problem really for led lights and stuff like that. However, something with a ton of watts just wouldn't work. It would probably shut down the Jackery (assuming it has circuit breakers built in)... it might also fry the plug/wiring you set up. There are other ways of connecting all of this. The above is what most would probably recommend I think. Other methods would most likely require soldiering and stuff like that.
@DoDo Boodrough: if you see cheap then you can,t go off grid because you will need to invest a solid $100,000 just to have enough battery for partial off grid. A Lithium-ion deep cycle battery is just under $900 for 1200 running watts with a $500 inverter that can take enough battery to sustain 3000 for 6 hours. You would realistically need no less than 100 square meters of solar panel which have are to use and the other charge the many batteries. You also need refrigerated rooms for batteries. You probably should live on the equator for 12 hours sun annually and that's what going to break the bank because the equator is farmers land and they don't sell cheap.
i didn;'t hear about a fridge. my impression from how he used it for, is the interior lighting and fan. maybe charge phones and power his blender. 500w should last. Not sure about the 3 weeks. buts possible as the devices he talks about aren't power hogs except for blender.

I just bought my van, it's an empty shell right now, but I need to make a two thousand mile round trip ASAP to see a new grandchild that arrived a couple of weeks ago. This kind of a portable power source will allow me to hit the road now, PROVIDED I can power a heater, that's the only thing I must have right now. Do you know if there is a way to use a totally portable battery like shown in this video to power a heat source? The heat would be used only at night, or if I hit severe cold weather during the drive, I may need to have the heater running intermittently during the drive to keep the the temperature bearable. The one thing I will do before I leave for this trip, is Insulate my van with an R14 on floors, walls, and ceiling, and cover those surfaces with the finished flooring and wall paneling. A simple, portable heat source is all I need. Thank you for anything you care to share!

That light panel is pretty basic. Just hook the DC out up to a distribution bus and you can tap off of it to power whatever you need. It should be very basic 101. The cigarette lighter is nothing more then hooking up to a positive and negative post of a battery. You can operate multiple items but are limited to the output of the cig lighter which is probably around a10 Amp draw. Anything more will probably to the internal circuit breaker on the jackery.

Made it all through this winter with just my car's 12v plug to charge my phone, AA powered LED x-mas lights, a flashlight & a 15 deg F down sleeping bag...but it rarely gets below 35 deg F around here.
Great video. Definitely looking into this type of battery. Don’t want to deal with a gas generator and the noise of it. Using solar leaves a much smaller footprint. How is the smaller one if you have a small fridge?

Thanks for the info on those 2 models, I will soon be embarking on a van build. While I plan on a deep cycle battery for main power system, I think one of the smaller Jackery's makes perfect sense as a backup for those times when you think the Deep cycle was at full charge but wasn't.

According to Jackery, a fully charged 240 will power a 35W fridge a total of 6 hours...but since a fridge turns itself on & off, you can keep it cold for 24 hrs on a single charge.

Other differences between the 500 and the 240:
AC: 500 sustained 500 watts (100W surge) of power vs 200W (400W surge)
Battery Size: 518Wh/144,400mAh vs 240Wh/67,000 mAh
DC Input: 500 input takes 12V-30V, 3.5a, 100W max which means you can use 12v or 24v solar panels and charge quicker; 240 maxes at at 42W input
So if you have even 1 solar panel that's 100W, go with the 500 model to really make use of the panel or really, set up your own battery bank.
Could you run an AC unit off these batteries everything else I know they can handle for what I need on the daily. The AC to cool off for Boondocking for long periods of time in a Hot climate is what I'm wondering about.

I’m so confused about that part!
You connect all of the positive wires together and do the same for the negative ones. Then run those to the plug. To do this, he most likely used a terminal distribution block. It is basically a piece of metal with screws in it, mounted on something non conductive. Basically you put an incoming wire under each screw and tighten them down. That connects them all together. You of course need 2 of these... one for positive and one for negative. If you have sensitive stuff you plan to connect you might want to have one of these (the positive side one) be an actual fuse block.
Bottom line, in order to do what he is suggesting you basically have to do what he claims this device prevents you from having to do... electrical work.
WAIT there's more... All of the above assumes the devices you are connecting like this are low wattage. Because that plug he is using will only safely conduct so many watts. Not a problem really for led lights and stuff like that. However, something with a ton of watts just wouldn't work. It would probably shut down the Jackery (assuming it has circuit breakers built in)... it might also fry the plug/wiring you set up.
There are other ways of connecting all of this. The above is what most would probably recommend I think. Other methods would most likely require soldiering and stuff like that.

@DoDo Boodrough: if you see cheap then you can,t go off grid because you will need to invest a solid $100,000 just to have enough battery for partial off grid. A Lithium-ion deep cycle battery is just under $900 for 1200 running watts with a $500 inverter that can take enough battery to sustain 3000 for 6 hours. You would realistically need no less than 100 square meters of solar panel which have are to use and the other charge the many batteries. You also need refrigerated rooms for batteries. You probably should live on the equator for 12 hours sun annually and that's what going to break the bank because the equator is farmers land and they don't sell cheap.
240wh... powers a fridge for 7 hours and goes flat. and he says lasts him 3 weeks... yeah...if all you power is an led strip for a few hours a day

i didn;'t hear about a fridge. my impression from how he used it for, is the interior lighting and fan. maybe charge phones and power his blender. 500w should last. Not sure about the 3 weeks. buts possible as the devices he talks about aren't power hogs except for blender.

I just bought my van, it's an empty shell right now, but I need to make a two thousand mile round trip ASAP to see a new grandchild that arrived a couple of weeks ago. This kind of a portable power source will allow me to hit the road now, PROVIDED I can power a heater, that's the only thing I must have right now.
Do you know if there is a way to use a totally portable battery like shown in this video to power a heat source? The heat would be used only at night, or if I hit severe cold weather during the drive, I may need to have the heater running intermittently during the drive to keep the the temperature bearable. The one thing I will do before I leave for this trip, is Insulate my van with an R14 on floors, walls, and ceiling, and cover those surfaces with the finished flooring and wall paneling. A simple, portable heat source is all I need. Thank you for anything you care to share!

Come on man, you can’t leave us hanging....how did you make the panel with the switches?
That light panel is pretty basic. Just hook the DC out up to a distribution bus and you can tap off of it to power whatever you need. It should be very basic 101. The cigarette lighter is nothing more then hooking up to a positive and negative post of a battery. You can operate multiple items but are limited to the output of the cig lighter which is probably around a10 Amp draw. Anything more will probably to the internal circuit breaker on the jackery.
