    Thank you so much for this clear explanation. You're the first person to explain that Flourish Excel actually is an algicide. I'm going to try the spot treatment of peroxide on carpeting plants as I"m not anxious to rip them out when finally established.

      If only I could post photos on UA-cam. I dosed at a rate of roughly 0.4mL (peroxide) per 1 L of water and in less than 24hours 95% of the Blackbeard turned red. No fish harmed. Couple of the snails closed up but are back moving around again today. Amazing advice. Thanks again for saving me a lot of trouble.

    Best step by step of different methods I’ve seen yet. One thing I heard somewhere else is leave light off for a while to keep the hydrogen peroxide at full strength as long as possible. Thanks

    Oh no, wish I watched this video before I tackled my algae. This is a very thorough explanation. After reading a few articles I took my plants out (one anchored to a rock and one to driftwood, so easy to pull out) and sprayed with hydrogen peroxide. I left it on for about 10 minutes and rinsed them off and put them back in the tank. I definitely got the roots too. Hope the plants survive (I’ll try to update later). They include two types of anubias and bacopa monnieri.

    My 26 gal tank is full of live plants in the substrate & I have a lot of floating plants & there are bits of BBA everywhere. Can I treat it all at one time with H2O2 & how do I go about doing that ? Thank you & I find your videos very informative. Look forward to your reply.

    I have a 65 gal 20 yr old community, heavily planted tank. I always have BBA I've been using Excel Co2 for years. I have a pressurize Co2 system with a spray bar. The Ph is 6.7 - 7.02. I've tried all yours and others suggestion for years. Nothing seems to work except when I remove my plants and spray or brush Excel and or Hydrogen peroxide on them. That works the best but I hate doing that. In a couple of weeks the BBA reappears. I have never seem to eradicate the stuff. I have 350 gph canister filter, a back filter 250 gph and an underground filter 4 heads at 350 gph each. I only use the underground about once or twice a week for a few hours. I have 4 adult Angels and about 10-15 small fish. Mollies etc. I use to do 50% water change weekly. Didn't seem to help at all. I would apricate any advise.

    very informative video. I'm going to try treating my tank with h2o2. been fighting beard algae in my 190L for about 2 years now, one of my plants is completely coated to the point of death and hopefully I might be able to save it and clean my tank with this method. (plus also from my research snails and shrimp are relatively safe with it too which are the main inhabitants of my tank)

    I have a tank that’s without plants that has this stuff all over the rocks, wood, and intakes. And a little bit of it on the glass. I liked the look because it grew long and waved with the flow. I’m tearing this tank down and resetting it up as a planted tank. I want to reuse the wood and filter and i was wondering how could i go about removing large amounts of it? I don’t have to worry about any inhabitants as i have moved them to a different tank for the process of resetting the tank. Thanks for the help

    A very interesting and informative demo, which I shall be putting into practice in the next day or so when my hydrogen peroxide arrives from Amazon. I'm from the UK and one thing I did notice, when you took the plants out of the tank it looked as though there were in plant holders, are they artificial plants?

    • @TrafishAquatics
      @TrafishAquatics  2 роки тому +1

      Yes these are artificial, though this method using full tank treatment at 1ml per gallon or spot treatments on live plants will also work very well

    I’ve found that a 30 second dip does nothing to blackbeard algae. I left my rocks in a bucket of water and hydrogen for several hours before the algae began to die.

    Thank you for the informative video. When you make water and hydrogen proxide solution, water is treated with prime or is it the tap water straight out from the faucet and still has chlorine in it? I tried this water solution method using prime treated water and it worked but I was wondering if water was non treated water or treated water.Thank you.

    • @TrafishAquatics
      @TrafishAquatics  2 роки тому +1

      I have well water so I don't have chlorine and don't have to treat my water, but if you do I would add prime like you did just to be safe

    Travis, if i treat the whole tank with 1 ml per gallon, how long should i wait to do it again? Do i need to do a water change before doing it again, or does it dissipate once i turn the light and filter on again?

    • @gregghorner9107

    • @TrafishAquatics
      @TrafishAquatics  Рік тому +1

      I use 1ml per gallon but you can go to a max of 3ml per gal.

  • @missmermaid6249
    @missmermaid6249 3 роки тому +2

    Very informative....thanks. It’s the worst algae ever. I’ve tried all of those methods, even dosing the tank with peroxide (i believe it was 10ml per 30 gal). I have a 75 densely planted, co2 injection and cannot get rid of it. It’s on my gravel and even my snails. I’ve managed to kill some with spot treatment but there’s too much of it seemingly hidden everywhere. I have added flying foxes (only bought 3 cause I was skeptical so may add 3 more) and will see what they can do as I continue to fight it.
