In this episode, Siskel and Ebert review: Vampire in Brooklyn, Mighty Aphrodite, Copycat, Leaving Las Vegas and Never Talk to Strangers.
For what it is, I enjoyed Vampire in Brooklyn
Leaving Las Vegas is tied with The Last Emperor as my all-time favorite movie. To me, Elisabeth Shue's performance was the single greatest by a female in film history. She got screwed out of the Oscar because the academy was desperate to give one to Sarandon before she got any older.
"Ok. That's what you think." Gene always has to get the last word.
Copycat was a sneaky good thriller. Not a masterpiece but before its time considering the boom fascination with serial killers.
Jennifer 8 is another good one
Leaving Las Vegas is a good movie.
Never talk to strangers is my kind of movie...thriller with lots of twists
While Leaving Las Vegas blows these films out of the water, I still think Gene was too harsh on Mighty Aphrodite
LLV is brilliant esp the 2 leads but my fav here is prob never talk to strangers, I love thrillers with a twist ending
LOL at Siskel and Ebert always giving Murphy career advice.
They were right.

"They're talented guys. Give them a screenplay."
- Ebert ... about "Coming to America"
Well someone had to because apparently his agent and manager were not helping him around this time...
glad to finally see the leaving las vegas review on the old siskel and ebert website, the review's audio died out half way through
Nic cage n Elizabeth Shue are brilliant in leaving Las vegas, great chemistry
Saw Leaving Las Vegas when I was 19 & found it really profound. Still remember the entire film 14 yrs later
I couldn’t stand it, just too much Cage.
I believe unless you've been personally touched by alcoholism in some way, LLV can be an over the top downer.
Leaving Las Vegas is one of my favorite movies since I first saw it in 2022.
I felt terrible and greatly inspired at the same time. It's just this case when you can feel "the magic of the movie". I fell for Elisabeth Shue immediately and started Shue's month - I watched about 80-85% of movies with Shue!!!
From that moment she became one of my favorite actresses.
And I damn unhappy for her not having long-term international supersuccess she deserves to have.
But no matter what, there's at least one fan who desperately loves her like Ben loves Sera.
Copycat is one most cat and mouse thrillers ever made .
re: copycat, what the hell does ebert mean by "the acting IS the material??" so the rest of it doesnt matter?
Eddie murphy is very talented. Vampire in Brooklyn is no comedy,it's very dark
Siskel: "That's what you think." 11:41
Love the way he slips that in there. Sounded so childish.
I love Leaving Las Vegas Maybe my favorite movie So brilliant and heartbreaking
Sounds like Gene had to do some ADR on Mira Sorvino's name. I wonder if he mispronounced it in the original audio.
I'm stunned that Ebert said Hunter's performance was BETTER than her Multi Award Winning, Oscar included, performance in the Piano...
Roger was WAY OFF on that one
