    I think the most important thing you didn't mention is the fact that clear ice does not cause the fizz to rise and pop at the top. So the carbonated beverages actually taste like they should rather than flat.

    I'm happy to see how well this worked, ice makers are definitely a good extra especially if you have a garage fridge or frequently have guests over.

    I’m curious what water source did you use for the countertop machine? Bottled water? You said “clean drinkable water”, but where I’m from my tap water is clean and drinkable (and tastes good). Our freezer does make white cloudy ice, but I have never tasted anything off in my ice. PS - I really want a nugget ice maker though that makes Sonic type ice pebbles. Those are fun!

    • @PapiEats
      @PapiEats  Рік тому

      I think these guys have a nugget ice maker too! I LOVE that kind of ice! Really it’s more about using potable water, so while I tend to bitch about the chlorinated taste of my tap water it’s perfectly drinkable and after this machine is done with it that is eliminated anyways.

    My need for one is something really dumb I did a couple of years ago. In my whirlpool side x side fridge when I changed the filter in the grille, I didn't remove those 2 prong covers on the new filter before putting the filter in... as I closed the door to push the filter in, it popped the filter door off....I went ahead and pushed the new filter in but NOW I can't get it out... I tried EVERYTHING... so after so long we became paranoid about using the ice/water in the door because of the stuck filter that's now been in there almost 2 years... so we no longer use the fridge ice maker or water...but just make ice and store it in the bin..which we can still dispense using the dispenser. I can fill my bin up in just a few hours and then we're good for several days before having to do it again.... as for water, we drink reverse osmois water we store in the fridge...I know I could call someone to come out to fix it but I really don't like the water filtered through those filters anyway....I feel like they don't filter all that great so we ended up hardly ever using anything but ice anyway...The next fridge I get is going to be a basic top freezer fridge... that is all

    I finally took a plunge and bought the insignia 44 lb from bestbuy for 190 dollars. It always seemed like a stupid thing to buy for that much money but ive been wanting one for 8 years. I wouldnt have bought the 100 dollar 26 lb one because the ice is super cloudy and gross. I really do like this machine have had it for a few weeks and I really cant say i regret getting it at all. It wonderful having it. only downside its a little loud and produces heat. but extremely easy to use and the ice comes out the exact same way as yours. its very clear and the taste is excellent. i can put bottles of water in it very easily or pour ro water from a 5 gallon jug to a 1 gallon and pour it. I have that hawaiin shaved ice thing off amazon from a long time ago for making margheritas and i can just throw this ice right into it and it shaves it perfectly! So i can have beautiful delicious shaved ice or cubed ice super conveniently almost as if i had a soda machine in my house lol. I noticed that to step up to machines that produce sonic ice it costs over 2 times as much money which is just ridiculous. Shaved ice tastes WAY better than sonic ice.

    I can keep this machine on 24/7? and if so, will it always have ice available or do I have to start it and wait before it makes the ice? Thanks

    Our Summer festivals on the lakefront use a barrel-shaped clear ice in their sodas. Always wanted something that would make those. This is the next best with clear cubes. Water here is pretty eh and I hate the taste of cubes made with it. Cool info. I'll see myself out.

    Great review! Thanks! The claim I hear is that sodas using clear ice don't foam as much. But, the Mountain Dew ones didn't foam much at all. If you pour Diet Coke into a glass of cloudy ice, it foams like an airport fire truck. I wonder what it does with clear ice? I need to test that.

    I just bought this from a friend but has no instructions. Do I have to hit the fill water and ice button? Or just hit power?. Mine has been running over 45 min and no ice yet

    Will the ice stay CLEAR if I make big batches and store them in a plastic bag or a solid container then dump them in my freezer for days or weeks? If not, then sadly I don't think these machines are for me. I don't have enough patience to come turn it on and wait for 6-15 minutes whenever I want to enjoy a drink.

      At least the feature which makes it have longer cycles makes it a bit bigger and sturdier

    • @rodhoutx
      @rodhoutx Рік тому

      The ice size is adjustable. In the manual it says to hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release it to start the machine for larger ice cubes. This adds a couple of minutes to the cycle. The newer models have digital displays to adjust.

    i wont buy a refrigerator that has a built in ice maker. it uses nasty city water then ya. it might be better if you had a reverse osmosis system. the problem with fresh bag ice is that the ice sticks together. i havent been able to figure out a solution.

    • @felixisme
      @felixisme Рік тому

      Me neither, if anyone does do share. Always sticks together since it's a bit wet before being put in a freezer

    • @Robothousesound
      @Robothousesound Рік тому

      Just drop the sealed bag on the counter a couple times after it’s been refrozen. It might break up a few cubes, but it’ll unstick the rest!

    • @rodhoutx
      @rodhoutx Рік тому

      Yep, all clear ice machines including the large commercial ones in restaurants never refrigerate the ice. It is constantly melting so it doesn't stick together (so it's always kind of wet). The automated machines that make bagged ice in grocery stores also work the same way, except it then bags the ice and drops it into a frozen compartment. Also, if you were to melt the clear ice and test it with a TDS meter, dissolved solids be extremely low. Pure water freezes first, so it is devoid of minerals, air bubbles, smells, etc. I will sometimes put the ice this machine makes in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer. Then you can just toss the bag on the counter a bit to break it up. But more often I just let it run and let the ice melt/remake ice. The amount of power it uses is so minimal. However, when the ice it makes starts to get a bit cloudy you need to dump out the water that's been circulating in the bottom. It will have a very high mineral content since it doesn't make it into the ice.

    • @felixisme
      @felixisme Рік тому

      @rodhoutx Yeah, when I want to collect a large amount of ice I take the bricks whole and put them in the freezer, wait a bit until dry and then split them all up in a bowl before putting back. Makes it perfect
