to Mark and Peter both: When first listening to this, I had downloaded it in the highest quality available to me at that time, and as a matter of course I download everything that way. I didn't know of the Japanese release, but when my unsuspecting husband came home, and I put headphones in his hands and said 'listen to this', it was one of the great moments watching his eyes glaze over as he listened entranced to this recital. The sound quality astounded me and impressed him as well, and he is technically inclined with an emphasis in broadcast audio! Thank you both for valuable info and invaluable document!
ua-cam.com/video/6bvYLxwJ90M/v-deo.html This is a completely new transfer of the original tape and far superior in sound quality. Please compare and be happy.
Binaural mics! Wow! Did you use a dummy head? I am flabbergasted, and have come to a pause before Gaspard because I am overwhelmed by the lusciousness of the sound (yes, I use headphones, live in them, in fact), and stunned that we now have an excellent quality sound recording of the Valses Nobles, which I have longed for. When I tremble a little less violently I'll go back to Gaspard. This is a tremendous document you have given us. I can't thank you enough. It is astonishing.
While agreeing with your comment about the value Helen, it is not the only Valses Noble of ABM in great sound. Tokyo FM published a 2 CD set in 2007 of the 1973 Tokyo recital which they originally broadcast. It is even better sound than this.
it's the best interpretation of chopin's second sonata I've heard in my life...

天空の城ラピュタの翌年なんだよねこの演奏
Can't thank you enough for this Peter. Do you remember the exact date of the recital?

It didn't.
