What an amazing video. I am from Brazil and I never thought a person from another country would provide so much info about VARIG. My father worked for the airline and many people in Brazil remember/admire the company until today.
Thanks for posting this i was a sometimes Varig customer during the 1960's/70's. Their onboard service was second to none. Their second class was as good as most US carriers Business class! And the flight crews were friendly and professional. I miss VARIG. Of course i miss Brazil too. I hope i can get back there some day. Fantastic country! a Los Angelino quem ama o Brasil.
I was on a VARIG flight in March 65 travelling from L.A. (USA) to Lima Peru. I was very impressed with it compared to the UNITED flight from Vancouver(Canada) to Los Angeles. So sorry you've now left flying.
It was a very sad day for me when I learned that Varig was no longer in the sky. I am a Brazilian and I flew with them several times. The crew was amazing, so friendly you felt like you were at home. My last time with them was on a Christmas eve flight from Toronto, Canada, to São Paulo. It was lovely, they offered a red velvet goody bag to each passenger and before dinner we had hot towels to wash our hands. The menu had a toucan on the cover and canary birds on its inner page, and the food was delicious as usual. Thank goodness I kept the menu as a souvenir. When the plane landed, we had a standing ovation in honor of the captain who had flown around the world for 33 years and was retiring that morning. I will never forget that flight. I knew people from other countries who had flown with Varig and heard nothing but praise. I will never forget Varig 💕
Varig was classy with very professional crew , reminded me of Pan Am ! Now when i fly to Brazil , it's only United , Delta or Air Canada . Other Latin airlines are not that good , just cheaper !
Thank you for your words! That was our goal and we worked very hard to achieve that. I'm an ex crew member and I feel honored by your comment. Greetings from Brasil (with an S because you are my fellowcountry) to Canada, the great country where you live. Fique com Deus!
@@andreferro4618 Thank you buddy. For me, VARIG will always represent fond childhood memories of excellent friendly onboard service from flight attendants who made me and my family feel like flying was a special occasion back in the day. Very fond memories of a bygone era.
Very sad it happened to Varig. I will never understand how that happened. Varig was very good specially when start traveling with other airlines from other countries or domestic and you see huge difference. Do you remember the Varig lady with the fabulous voice?
I was North West England passenger sales rep for Varig, for two years from 1980. Me and my Sales Manager were made redundant, which was a sad day, they were brilliant to work for.
During its glory days from late 1970's thru the 80's NO other airline came close to RG's in flight service in any cabin class. I flew with them about 12X JFKGIGEZE aka Buenos Aires RT. My choices were to fly direct NYCBUE either on AR Aerolineas or PA Pan Am. For me there was NO choice even if it meant having to obtain a transit visa for Brazil since I traveled as a NON RG NON REVENUE other airline employee. From the colorful birds on their menu covers to the sumptuous meals in economy class such as gigantic ''stuffed shrimps Acapulco'' when leaving NYC and a perfectly cooked petite filet mignon when departing RIO on the return this was world class service. Ahhh the cafezinho served after every meal .. the BEST coffee ever served on an airplane. In Feb 1984 I felt like I had won ''LOTTO'' when I along with my parents and aunt were upgraded to first class NYCRIO as they were about to close the aircraft door. OMG I know of NO adjectives NO words to adequately describe the in flight experience. The first and only time I had ''Boula Boula''' which was cream of split pea and turtle soup. Need I say more? RIP VARIG, NO ONE DID IT BETTER
David Neeleman started Jet Blue in the States and Azul in Brazil, both are doing great, now he just started Breeze Air a new LCC in the States, this guy is amazing. He is an American born in Brazil, he has aviation in his blood, he should go down and take TAM out of Chile and re create it as a new VARIG!

How come Brazil let the Varig dying and putting foreign airlines to replace the Varig. The government should have saved the Varig and make state airline. Varig was one of the symbol of Brazil. So what else dying Petrobras? what else. Outreageous.
Crazy how the airline that Star Alliance considered as its first Latin American and first additional member in 1997 ended up being bankrupt after 9 years. Star had United, Thai, SAS, Lufthansa and Air Canada. Then they added Varig. And now you have SAS being bankrupt and had to leave Star for Skyteam in 2024.

I left brazil in a Varig back in in the early 90's great video.

Varig was a very good airline. Great service n planes ✈️
Really nice video summarizing precisely what happened. Sad end to once a great airline.
Only 200 subs,need more flight geeks ✈
Varig missed it.
I loved Varig , now when i fly to Brazil i avoid all the Latin American airlines , because they think they are Brazilian ! Latam is from Chile.
i worked in Varig cargo 1988-1991
will you talk about Panam, ansett, TWA?
Ansett is definitely on the list!
Great airline
Most of the Varig employees work at Azul, the 2nd biggest airline in Brasil
Latam is not even Brazilian and is the biggest !
lee santos latam tecnicamente é brasileira e chilena ao mesmo tempo
@@caiocsermak5608 O escritório é no Chile e os aviões não carrega a bandeira Brasileira! Varig era respeitada no mundo inteiro. Latam é droga.
Which is the biggest ?
