    WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

I'm fully athiest at this point, but I wouldn't mind calling in one day to play devil's advocate on some things I feel religious people don't quite handle how they could. Not that I buy it, but just because I think I can basically make up excuses for their beliefs better than any of them that I have heard.

I've thought this same thing many times and even pointed it out a couple times to my mother and law. Lol

Isn't it funny how non religious people can come up with smarter things for the things they don't even believe?

Arguing for a non existing point? Yep, definitely would be a god's advocate!

Adam really needs to watch Julia Sweeney's "Letting Go of God". She details her journey from Catholicism - she also had a Catholic school upbringing, but in her case was loving and positive - to atheism. It's funny, moving, snd above all, intelligent. Just to note, I, like Adam, was born and raised a Jaothic, or Cashew - Catholic father, Jewish mother. However, we were mainly secular. - my parents yanked me out of Sunday school when the priest said I argued too much. So for me, it was a pretty smooth transition. I just really love Julia's explanation of her journey.

I think Christian morality exists, it's just not defined clearly or explained at all. It's all because, "god said so." That's morality for children, IMO.

It exists, but no one really uses it!
Child abuse, cover up of it, inquisition, witch hunts, crusades, aso!

I think a better analogy would be taste vs diet. With religion, you go with whatever "tastes" the best to you. Everyone has their own views and opinions even within the same church. I know. My dad was a preacher and still is and my mom is very religious. Me and my brother are the "troubled athiests" of the family. Diet (not as in losing weight, but diet as in what you eat) would be actual morality. You can analyze what is good for you and what is bad for you and chose accordingly. However, people aren't all exactly the same and some are allergic to some thimgs or some people have one deficiancy or another or other health related things. So diet is based the same on what has the right outcome and what hurts you and what doesn't, but personal situation has a lot to do with it

3:12 actually, this is a terrible analogy. Our sense of sweetness does vary, but it is there to assess the concentration of sugar in the food or drink we consume, which is very much objective, but not *an* objective.

Taste is so we don't poison ourselves it's nothing to do with sugar if it was we wouldn't have obesity.

You need to make the distinction between ethics, , metaethics and aesthetics. Also, "ought" is by definition not regarding morality, ought is a command. Morals cannot be imposed.

The God of the Bible used Supernatural Speciation not Darwinian Evolution to create all life on earth over 6 very, very long time period days !
