Would love to have an engineer do a detailed lengthy walkthrough on the design of one of these cars. Feels like anywhere you look is a piece of art and craftsmanship. Every fitting and all the hose routing. Where everything is and why. There are probably multiple iterations and years or decades of experience that led to those decisions. Race cars hold so many cool secrets and its rare to get to hear about it. Like, I find F1 cars fascinating but don't really care about the racing (at least these days.) The insane, exotic designs, materials and what not for everything is way more interesting.
Just as fast as the Taxi 406V6 with Daniel behind the wheel! Damn the 406 is such a timeless car.. looks so hot! The 16v logo just reminds of the 309gti 16v and 405Mi16.
I find it a bit funny to see great waves of motorsport-grade carbonfibre topped off with the OEM air vents recognisable from my parents' old 406 estate!
Hey Jake 👋🏼. Great video and insight mate. Love Super Tourers! Can you tell us how the lap times compare and the speed of the cars themselves to today's touring regulations at all please? Genuinely interested to hear if Super Tourers would still be competitive today. Cheers buddy 👍🏼.
Even one of the least competitive Super Touring cars is still a work of engineering art. Really hoping you'll be back throwing one of these around at Super Touring Power again this year.
Probably the best-looking SuperTourer of them all, if not the most competitive. Pretty sure the guys who built it got no help from Peugeot France, whose european campaigns were much more successful. Wonder which engine that is. Logic suggests it's an XU10 (iron block) but has a lot of XU9J4 bits on it (an 80s engine from a 405 Mi16, or Citroen BX 16v)
Supertouring was a great spectacle back in the day, no wonder the cars were so expensive looking at the engineering. Thanks for the vid, plenty more cars to cover yet then.
@@jakehillracing it's a stunning looking machine with some fantastic details under the bodywork too! Hopefully you get another go behind the wheel soon! I wouldn't mind getting a few more shots myself too 😅

@@jakehillracing hi Jake, nice channel, i love it. And thanks for answering. Yes and i believe the STW team didn’t want to help the BTCC team, wich is a shame because the BTCC is also a masterpiece.
Were the other cars left hand drive? It seems odd they built RHD cars in the UK. In French cars, the RHD variant is famously an afterthought... Edit -- I see they very smartly solved the problem of the steering rack interfering with the manifold!
Sorry but this is my favourite era of touring car! The scream of the engine, the trading of paint. Playing TOCA 2 ❤❤ Please keep these great videos coming 🙏
Had a bit of clutch slip in my 206 gti 180 at Thruxton once the crankshaft oil seal went. Probably a little different in the 406 super tourer I’d imagine! 😂 keep up the good content Jake
I hope you will! Something I wondered when watching this video and the one about the Honda: why did these cars, which are obviously custom built racing machines, have super barebones carbon interiors, yet still come equiped with the full plastic dashboard you'd have in your road car? Surely must have something to do with marketing, right?
Ah GT2 memories when i was able upgrade normal 406 to this. Its soo loud. Water cooled brakes in race car? Thats something new i understand this in 1000Hp Race truck where you really need stop 5 Tons.

I think that 90s were the best era for touring cars and I would really love to see these cars on track. There are some events where we can see these cars running?
Heavy, turbo engine, wet sump, standardised suspension, hybrid too now -- you can find a few NGTC videos, there's one with Scarbs at West Surrey Racing. Most of the teams don't have fabricators anymore, as there isn't anything much to fabricate under standardised NGTC rules. The emphasis is just on tuning the shock absorbers and setting up the suspension geometry (it's still a little bit adjustable despite being standardised) now. TOCA bench flows the cylinder heads, so you get a boost level based on how much your cylinder head flows, so all the engines should perform about the same whether you have the category engine or your own engine. The body kits are matched in a wind tunnel to perform about the same too. The NGTC arrangement is definitely a million times better for privateers who don't have unlimited money, of course. Though TCR cars (also heavy) works pretty well too using BOP, despite needing to use the suspension pickup points & type from the road car, so those rules also work IMO. They are also wet sump IIRC.
Honestly no need. From a feeling point of view the current cars are heavy, turbo, less passion, less engineering and not as fun. The only reason our cars today are faster is they are over 100hp up, much wider tyre
You're like a male gigolo the way you jump around these seats Jake ?? :D You were driving my M3 a while back as well so I am told ?? :D (Porsche Miami Blue E46 M3 Cup )

Amazing work :D geting through these super Touring cars :). I see the old Honda Integra out there. You defo need to drive that; total bias as that is the car I remember growing up when I watched BTCC back in the day (sadly, I got into touring cars after super turing). I'm desperate to see some of these on track again, they're like motor racing royalty. I went to Donnington on Easter weekend as the headline race was supposed to feature some super tourers in the afternoon. We walked round the paddock during the day and spotted a Vectra in the back of a huge articulated trailer and a Mondeo on the back of a smaller trailer. The time for the race came and we waited trackside, the whole grid made its way past on the warm up lap... not a single super tourer to be seen 😢

Mega video !! Back in the day they use to heel toe. I see you're left foot braking. Do you blip the throttle yourself, it's equiped with autoblip now or you're not bliping the throttle ? It's sad the clutch was done 😅.
Yeah a few did and few didn’t. Personally I prefer to not use the clutch and give a slight blip when changing down anyway. That helps take the load off of the dogs in the box. Allows a smooth change without hurting anything
Fantastic. Dream Racecar. Love the details, closer look at the details and controls 👍👍👍👍👌👌 The radiator air hot air exits/exuasts are insane. So low and in front.
This ducting works remarkably well. The front has a huge high pressure area like all the cars. And sides have fast moving air pulling it very well out (you see there are also vent ribs at the bumper corners). Also this has downforce benefit aswell as air from engine compartment is not blown under the car but rather to the sides of the car
