      I appreciate the tip about not closing the glass perking element too tightly. Now I know why I go through so many of those. But one other weakness is that the lid is attached to base just by those three little rivets you see at 9 min 45 seconds. They are just tapped on. Our lid came apart at that place. Still usable if I use mitts to hold the lid on when pouring. So when washing and importantly when drying, don't put stress (e.g. don't dry the pot upside down with the lid open) and don't wash in dishwasher. Lastly, if your burner is wide, the rosewood handle will start to smell. We now put it on a back burner with a smaller diameter ring.

    This is one of the best reviews I have watched on UA-cam. I have watched literally hundreds of reviews and this hits the nail on the head perfectly. I agree with everything said. My cups are the 8 oz variety but I only drink one cup a day, sometimes 2 but rarely. This won't make just one 8 oz cup so I use 18 oz water and it works fine, so 2 cups are made and one cup goes into a small thermos for later consumption. KUDOS on the review, tells it like it is. Thanks Oh, BTW if you use a wood cutting board and you have a cleaning and oil kit for the cutting board, use the oil on the handle and the wood will stay in very nice condition. After a thin coat of oil wipe clean with paper towel or hand towel.

      Hi Allan, thank you so much for your awesome comment, I really appreciate it! I'm glad you found the info in the review useful 😊 Thank you for sharing about your experience too! It's a great idea to keep another cup for later consumption! And I appreciate the tip on using the oil for the handle, I never knew that! I don't have a wood cutting board, but I'll definitely look out for the cleaning oil kit :)

    I've found that when the manufacturer says what the number of cups should be, the actual cup size is more like a 5 to 6 ounce sized cup. Nice video. Thanks...

    I'm so glad I found this video. I just bought this perkolator and tried making a cup and half of coffee and was super confused why it wasn't perkolating and thought I was doing something wrong but didn't know what and now I know you have to put a certain amount of water. This video was very helpful.

    I just purchased the 6 cup version of this percolator. I don't think this smaller version was available when this review was done. It is just a shorter version of the 9 cup model. as with all coffee devices, the definition of "cup" is all over the place. I consider the capacity of this pot to be 24oz, which fills it to the bottom of the lowest spout hole, and lines up with the "4 cup" mark. This ends up approximately 1" below the basket. While my pot appears to be a genuine Coletti, it came in a plain brown box, not the nice custom box shown here. Tomorrow will be first brew!

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  6 місяців тому

      Hey again David! Yeah you're right I think only the 9 and 12 cup were available then, if I remember correctly 😅 And thanks for all the details too! That's super useful for folks who wanna get the 6 cup. How was your first brew?

    • @Dav-S5658
      @Dav-S5658 6 місяців тому

      @@CampingGuidance Liz, I'm very happy with this percolator! Everything you had to say about it was spot on. The capacity works perfectly for me because I drink one 22oz mug of coffee each morning.. Putting 24oz in, gives just about 22oz out. The basket seems large for this 6 cup version, and I wonder if it is the same basket used in the 9 cup? This basket is 1.5" deep. I have been cheating and using a paper disk filter, but the result is almost zero grounds in the bottom of the pot. I travel for 7 months out of the year continuously in my truck camper, and this will be in my kit when I leave this year! Thanks for your help! David

Hmm it could be the same as the 9 cup. I didn't measure mine but 1.5" sounds about right. And using a filter is definitely a great idea! I don't do that, so I just throw the last half a cup out 😂

      Hey Mark! I haven't tried the 6-cup sadly :( But yes I'm assuming the same! I think the 6-cup pot will hold 24 ounces of water. Oh btw! Did you leave another comment on another of my videos? What type of coffee do you usually use? So many choices now with Natural, Washed, Honey processed, etc., curious which would taste best in the percolator. I am excited to try the Coletti on an upcoming camping trip. Will be bringing my manual burr grinder, and I have some new coffee coming as well, just of the 'natural' process variety but will be trying washed and honey processed in the future.

      Thanks for the question! I used Lavazza whole bean medium roast coffee for this video and I've been using it ever since 😊 If you need the exact link, let me know! I think it's just a matter of trial and error to find exactly what works best with your percolator. I'm not really a coffee expert so I just stuck to Lavazza cos it tasted really nice haha. 😅 I hope this helped a little though! I'm glad you got the Coletti, that's a great pick! Hope you manage to find a good process before your camping trip too! 🥰

    Hey thank you so much for this detailed video! I was looking for percolator and your set of videos are just perfect.
    I have noticed that you use filter when pouring coffee into a cup. Is this for coletti or percolators in general? Do you think that 2 mm filter hole matters compare to other 1 mm holes? I’m a lazy person so it will be nice not to use a filter paper haha. I’m also looking at gsi and stanley, and gsi is a bit expensive :(
    Thanks again for the video

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  2 роки тому +1

      Hey MK! Thanks so much for leaving me a comment and I'm really happy that you enjoyed the percolator videos! :)
      Oh! Actually, I wanted to do a test to calculate how much coffee grounds was in the last cup of each pot that I brewed, but I gave up on that hahaha XD That was the only reason why I used the filter! Otherwise, there's no need to use the filter at all. I don't usually use filters when brewing coffee with my percolators :)
      The 2mm vs 1mm filter holes don't really matter much as long as you use a coarse grind (like I did in all my percolator videos). I did notice a little bit more grounds in the last cup when brewing coffee with my Coletti compared to my GSI, but I don't think it's that significant. I think I included the "grounds in last cup" shot for both the Coletti and GSI in each video, so you can check it out. If I missed it out, please let me know, and I'll upload a picture for you or something :)
      So yeah! Just use a coarse grind, and there won't be any needs for filters.
      Ohhh I see. What cup capacity are you looking for? At a 6-cup capacity, I think the GSI is cheaper than the Stanley, and I definitely think the GSI is much more user-friendly than the Stanley haha.
      No problem, and please feel free to let me know if you need anymore info :)

    I've used this in the 14 cup version for a year and I 'HATE' it! I soooo wanted to love it because of the owner being a Veteran, etc... But it does NOT hold that much water, and even when I lower the volume of water, lower the amount of coffee, etc.- It still produced loads of grounds! I end up having to use a little strainer to pour my coffee into the cup! ... And it stains terrible! At first, I thought the bottom was burning, but it wasn't- It was just staining! Another thing I hate about it is that the lid is attached, making it awkward and hard to clean. This is a big disappointment to me, because I love our Veterans and really wanted to like it. Instead, I absolutely HATE it and felt compelled to say so lest anyone else waste their money on it too! Oh- Also, they deliberately made the filters a larger size than what you can get at the market, so they cost more... I think I paid around 16 bucks on Amazon! They are high quality- I believe they are linen, but so what- They STILL don't keep the grounds from getting all over the insides of the pot and into your cut!

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  9 місяців тому

      Hey Cassandra! Oh man I'm so sorry to hear about your experience :( Hmm as for the issue on the grounds, do you use a coarse grind for the grounds? I did that and I don't usually have that many grounds in my coffee. Also, I let the coffee settle and then the grounds usually mostly come up only in the last cup. But yeah the lid doesn't detach though, and I don't like that their filters cost so much too :(

      @cassandralibertywest4310 9 місяців тому

      @@CampingGuidance It's been very hard to find coarse ground coffee. I have finally found whole beans and I have a grinder, so I'll try that and see if it helps. It's still rather irking to have to 'work' at getting something to work. ... I may end up getting another Farberware.... The funny thing is that my little one cup filter style that's nothing more than a cone stainless steel filter makes great coffee, but it's a pain doing one cup at a time! I would get a Melitta system if both the pot and the cone were stainless steel.... Thanks for the response.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  9 місяців тому

      @@cassandralibertywest4310 No worries! Thank you so much for the response too 🥰 Yeah for me it's really hard to find coarse ground coffee too, so I just buy whole beans and use my trusty Hario grinder. I think it really made my percolator coffee much better, and I don't really have issues of grounds getting into my coffee. You might have to experiment with different coarse-ness of grounds to get to the perfect grind. Hopefully that works and you won't have to go back to doing one cup at a time! 😁
