the 2 board system separating PS and main control board is very useful for repairs especially because its usually the PS that fails. With a single board you would have to replace the entire board which is of course going to be more expensive. Obviously if they are using poor quality PS then that's no good.

Thanks so much for this - very detailed analysis esp. with the electronics and gears that I've never thought of before. This has helped me a lot

My biggest problem finding a good desk is that all the best desks are not available in Canada..

Apparently, the most variety of standing desks is in the US. Other countries are much more limited. For example, here in Russia, we have only two local brands to choose from and they are quiet similar in quality as it seems. The components are imported from China.

What do you think of pneumatic rather than electric. I can only afford a lower end desk and wonder if this is a way to limit breakdown.

Are you aware on how electronics work?
How well circuits are glued on is hardly a factor. Unless you've conduct regression testing by constantly raising and lowering the standing desk over a course of time, you're pointing at things that don't really make a difference. The thing that kills electronics is heat... Just so you know. :)
    Your other points are sound.

Is there any attachable tray that can be put at the desk legs? Like a tray to put your gaming console instead of putting it on your desk.
