Matt, this is a great list. One of the things I added to my cooler was a motion activated light that came on when I opened my cooler. no more flashlight being held in my mouth! I will defiantly be looking at the rope rollers.. genius!! Thanks for sharing!!
I like the switch panel on the bed rack. I've been switching mine from the from extra circuits on the switch panel in the cab. I use a similar water valve on my rotopax. It's made by Gowesty. It has a stainless steel fitting that goes under the cap and the valve threads into it without any modification. A side note, I do run my valve facing down on the tight trails. If they are facing up, they have a tendency to get pulled off. "ask me how I know" LOL

Can’t wait to utilize some of this on my old square body. After doing some measuring I found it’s not that much wider than a current Colorado and in fact might be the same after I do some trimming. I figure the second gas tank and the cargo area might make it the best thing I have for overlanding. Originally I was just going to use my TJ and probably still will for sure places but the square body by far is going to be more comfortable
Thank you! I’m just starting out, and I’m trying to save up money for big ticket items (like front bumper and winch, lift, wheels, and tires 😆) so it’s nice to have inexpensive items that do the job just fine for the little stuff.
Power in the tent I use a 12v or usb extension cable plugged into either my power station in my FJ, or into the power ports in the FJ that are hooked up to my aux battery. The small cables close in the weather strip of any site opening without causing any problems.
Ordered the rock lights to go on my rack, those are going to be awesome. Decided to go with a cheap remote control $25 switch at this point. Not sure I need the awesome Bluetooth unit.
I'm fairly new to "over landing" but I have over ten years of glamping. The thing I find is that the K.I.S.S. rule applies for over landing. I don't need the convenience of the latest and greatest while camping. Less gadgets equals less stuff to deal with.
Great, I recently upgrade my auxbeam switch to the DUAL HEAD control so one it's in my overhead panel/roof console and the other one in the tailgate of my jku so can control from both position
Tks Matt great tips .. I have a dual battery system works great. Spod for all my lights. Enjoy u and yr wife's trips appreciate your hard work will use your affiliate link.
Went through the link you provided and just ord'd the Govee bluetooth thermometer you showed, plus a Govee indoor bluetooth thermometer. Double deal, with 10% off coupon on each item. Have been looking for such items for awhile. 😎👍 I quit taking the Reliance 7gal container, and now use two Scepter 2.5 gallon "jerry" containers. Much lighter to tote when full. Gonna have to get some of those rope roller thing-a-ma-bobs.
For bed lighting I used an 8 piece bed lighting system that supposed to go under the bed rail to light up a truck with a tonneau cover. I just stuck it to the bottom of the bed rack overhead, $20 piece of cake.
Similar to the old reliance jugs, I got a refillable jug at a grocery store. I got mine at Winco. It's a similar shape and size but soooo much thicker and stronger. Can get spouts and caps.
The auxbeam units are awesome, have a zombie mode setup on mine 😂 so if up in the rtt you can flick the switch on your phone and bam daylight around camp 🤘
I would unplug your charging cords (for the watch, etc)from the USB hub when not in use. They can draw power (admittedly not much= 0.029A) even when not in use. If the cable gets pinched and shorts out it could get messy? Now you got me looking at bed lights for my off-road trailer!
These were great ideas! I've got a new RTT and bed rack being delivered soon and have been wondering how to set up lights. I love the idea of using the T slots and that light controller is awesome. Thanks!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I'm literally drawing out a diagram of how I want to set the rock lights and Aux Beam controller right this second. Great video! I really like the rock light idea. I have a Topo Toppers Badander and have been looking at a few different options to put some lights on the rear hatch, so when it is open it will light up my tailgate. Quick question about those rock lights, when you turn them on, do they default to the last color you had them on, or do they go to white?
Love the channel! Still watching your old videos. Great information, interesting and beautiful places. We are new to Overland World and hope to enjoy it as you and "Kara" do. Quick question, what's your opinion of an AccuAir suspension ?? Maybe a video of pro and cons, base on your trips. Like rock crawling river crossing, everyday use, camping, traveling across states... Still deciding if its worth it.
Thanks for the advice 👍🏼😎 On a side note, how much do you pay attention to Gross Vehicle Weight limits? I’m looking at all gear and trying to tally it into a number that make sense. 🤔
I'm definitely aware of my GVWR and had my Gladiator weighed a few months ago. It's a couple hundred pounds over so I have upgraged my brakes to help compensate for that.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures that’s good to know that you have actually weighed your vehicle. How have you experienced the handling and driving experience of your vehicle under the load? I’m curious because I have my vehicle mostly stock and looking at roof top tent, etc.
BLUF: Spending money on critical components is more important than having cool guy gear. Good video helping to break down the thought process that you have to have thousands and thousands of dollars overland gear to get out and enjoy yourself. There is a place for good equipment, but it can be good enough gear in a lot of cases. Critical gear can be expensive, so cutting costs on little things like using a square water jug vs a rotopax adds up. Keeping stock rims, but uo grading tires, spending 300 bucks on a ground tent, vs 3000 on a rooftop tent.
You seem to have missed to point of this video. At any point in the video did I say or imply that gear was more important than critical components? Nope. Sure didn’t. But thanks for the comment I guess. I’ve said over and over in lots of videos that you don’t need expensive rigs or gear to do this. Maybe you should watch those. 🤷🏼♂️

If it's about being convenient and less money learning how to tie a simple cinch knot will save you 12.95 a piece on the roperoller, just sayin, using biodegradable diaper wipes is a good way to handle basic handwashing,

Good knot for some to use, but there are some of us (me included) that prefer something as simple as the rollarcam. They are very reasonable and it helps to support the folks that sell these as most are "Overlanders "themselves. I picked up a set of 6 also at the PNW Expo.
Absolutely. Grew up tying taut-line hitches on tent guy ropes, but these days, when the old arthritis kicks-in, those rope roller gadgets are a great alternative. 😉
