Thank you for watching my video, I appreciate the support !
Thank you for the video, and thanks for suggesting from the start of your video that others with solutions that might work better then WD-40 should comment below. I was very impressed with the recommendation and outcome of Goo Gone's ability to break down the RTV silicone. It didn't work much on the mechanical silicone in 5 minutes as suggested, but with 2-3 applications over a 45 minute timeframe, it was curling the thinner layers of RTV and cleaned up off of previously sanded for adhesion metal gasket surfaces nicely and easily removed the skins from paper gaskets beautifully. On the negative side, I attempted to clean the silicone from the front end of my $80 silicone oil pan gasket, and with it being silicone, Goo Gone also affected the gasket. It stretched, and split in the corners. On my bad, I shouldn't have used RTV or any sealant on a silicone gasket in the first place. Goo Gone works well.
I’m trying WD-40 right now, I’m very surprised. It made an immediate difference, even without soaking.
try rubbing off with lighter fluid. I learned they use that to remove old silicone used on shower doors
That's interesting 👍
I like to use a little bit of gasoline. It works great and peels RTV away from aluminum, cast iron and steel very easily.
Thanks for your input 👍
thanks I'll try it
I've used 0000 steel wool and so far it appears to be working well without scratching the mating surface
Use Lacquer thinner way better and easier to clean up.
works the best
use brake cleaner to clean off the mating surfaces after using wd40 as it leaves no oily residue which can prevent the re-application of gasket goop from re-sealing properly next time and wont attack gaskets. Maybe slicing into the body of the sealant first and then applying the sealant remover to help it penetrate deeper initially. Wonder if nail polish remover would work, seems to strip everything else including my nasal cavity lol
I like to use a wire wheel on a bench grinder.
Cmorep3 this works great for any part that comes off the engine. The block just needs good old elbow grease lol thanks for watching/commenting.
RTV silicon smells like dirty plumber ass when dried...Had a tube burst in a stack on tool tray and this helped tremendously
Great! I'm glad it helped someone 👍
Why would you be smellin' dirty plumbers ass? Work on your car, man!!
@@Gerald-ge3or 😂😂😂
how do you know?
I wouldn't want to know what a dirty plumbers ass would smell like but I can tell you have plenty of experience but maybe you need spray some WD-40 before you start sniffing ass
Thanks for the tip. here is one back to you. Instead of "pushing" the razor blade, drag it at a 75 degree angle (or so). You can gouge the aluminum when pushing and you will never do that when dragging. CNC machinist use this method to deburr parts (in some cases). It will make only visual scratches and remove any burrs as well
Thank you. That definitely works . I've been doing that since I saw another video demonstrating it
@@themechanic6117 I also keep pieces of flat plastic of different thicknesses to use as a scraper too. Easy to sand to conform to a contour and sharpen an edge to scrape with.
WD40 worked great, thanks! I used that along with a blue non-scratch Scotch-Brite sponge. No soaking or waiting required!
Using brake cleaner & a soft metal brush to scrub the left over rtv & gasket on the valve cover followed up with rubbing alcohol on a red shop rag got everything clean off my chrome covers.
For sure needed that. silicone removing sucks
I wonder if PB Blaster or seafoam deep creep will work the same. I have an aluminum intake manifold covered with Permatex grey ultra right now, guess it's time to experiment
Did it work? I'm trying to remove a tranny pan I put on with the right stuff. Just applied pb blaster so fingers crossed it will let go
@@corychester5865 results?
just use tiner
Thank you for this video it is very helpful thank you very much
Do your self a favor and don’t have body parts in the path of the blade
Gasoline and carb cleaner are the best
Needs to be a solvent of some kind. RTV designed to resist petroleum products like WD-40. It may have some effect. I use alcohol, not the best either...
+Brooks Yeager the biggest thing here is time, how long you let it soak...when working on cars most of the time you done have the time to wait.
Silicone can be burned off.
Never tried it but also you don't want to use fire in some areas 😂👍
Why not just use metal surface prep or gasket remover?
I'm sure there are better options like you mentioned. This video is to show how wd-40 works.plain n simple
Toluene.
I used gasoline and a little low grade sandpaper to remove the silicone from plastic and it worked like a champ. :-) TDuck
I use goo gone dabbed on with a glue brush, let sit 5 minutes blade slides right under it and it’s gone
WD-40, the miracle chemical.
+wyattoneable it does it all !
Use Acetone or Brake Cleaner instead of WD-40.
Good comparison!
Thomas EXOVCDS Easter egg
Are you saying I missed one again? OK... will have another look!
I saw the subscribe image... was there more? Gonna look again! LOL
Thomas EXOVCDS your logo is in there.its so obvious! 😂
