Marang, having originated from Borneo, and as widely common in Mindanao has its root in our precolonial history which means the Muslim missionaries and traders from Borneo were the ones who brought Marang in Mindanao as early as 1380s, a simple proof to think of that Mindanao was really used to be inhabited by Muslim natives in PH precolonial era. Thanks for this vlog sir Erwan.

I can't get over Barry White playing in the background while the marangs were being peeled... :-)... It's marang season right now in our part of Mindanao (Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte), my cousin said that a big one costs about 25 pesos and a small one costs about 15 bucks. A trick to bringing marang to Manila, do not bring back the ripe fruit because it becomes over-ripe easily. If you have an early flight back to Manila, pick a marang from the tree when its just about to get ripe (the fruit is still firm but just about to get soft) and pick it around late afternoon. Within the time that you travel back to Manila your marang will get ripened just at the right time and at its best state. To eat the seeds you have two options, boil it in salted water like peanuts, or dry them out in the sun for a few hours and then dry roast them in a "kawali"... they are like chestnuts... :-)
