    ive seen him live in my hometown bielefeld in germany in 2004. only like 100 people in the crowd but it was the best show ive EVER been too.
    great performer. he even played trumpet on the show. flirted with 40 years younger girls in the crowd. hit the bass players strings with drumsticks. awesome guy.

    My dad played guitar the same way (left-handed, strung like a righty). Dick Dale is one of the best live shows I've ever seen, he's amazing. And what a cool guy, too - after his show he just sat on the edge of the stage and met everyone who wanted to come say hello. Great handshake, very warm guy.

      That's awesome, really cool skills to play that way considering even playing the standard way is hard and that only makes it all harder for ya, it's like playing the hardcore mode haha rly cool

    Instantly recognized as just a jam session. Those are so cool anybody shows up any instrument and they try to get the original down to the note especially when they are with the original master.

    Thanks for this! Shows what a great musician he was, and he had a lot more songs up his sleeve if record companies would have listened.

    yes ,it's the way he learned when it was tough if not impossible to find leftys, Albert King also learned this way, and played with the lows on the bottom ,amazing desire to play no matter what ...

    looking forward to seeing DD in Ocean City, Md at Trader Lees on July 28th! Can't wait and hoping that Sammy's still traveling with him on the bass, what a fantastic guy his is. Saw DD, Jimmy on drums and Sammy on base last year in Oct. same place. Great venue to get up and personal with the King of the Surf Guitars!

    How to get Dick Dale's sound? Fender amps and reverb, is really that simple?

    • @Sammie_Sorrelly
      @Sammie_Sorrelly 9 років тому +3

      ***** Well yeah, the tone is Fender guitar into Fender amps with the amp reverb way up, but sounding like Dick Dale needs you to play like Dick Dale. His signature techniques are the fast tremolo picking and those slides he was trying to get the other guy to do at like 1:58 here where he slides down the neck while tremolo picking that string. Heavy strings help with the picking.

    • @mikeejay63
      @mikeejay63 9 років тому +3

      +Jedan Čovek Like TheAxman17 pointed out, Dick Dale had a very unique fingering technique, remember something, take a close look, he is left handed, playing a right handed guitar. Remind you of anyone. Maybe Jimi Hendrix. You can not play that on a Les Paul through a Marshall, it will sound similar bit not the same. You need, a Strat, A Fender Reverb amp, and Dick Dales fingers to sound like that

    • @leocomerford
      @leocomerford 8 років тому +2

      +bah humbug Hendrix reversed the strings, though, to get them back in the usual bass-E-on-top order, which Dale didn't. So now when Dick Dale plays left-handed Strats, he reverses the strings to put them back in the "wrong" order with the bass E on the bottom.

    • @mikeejay63
      @mikeejay63 8 років тому +1

      *****
      You're right, Dick Dale did string some of his guitars heavy, he had more than one guitar. There is an interview with him somewhere here on UA-cam that explains why he stung some of his guitars the way he does. He demonstrates the difference, and he says, face it Miserilou wouldn't sound the same if I played it on this guitar now would it? He was right, and many of his fans think so too

      Well he flipped the guitar over, thats why the strings look like that. I do the same thing, because there aren't that many choices when it comes to nice affordable lefty guitars, so I just flip my dad's strat.

    despite the fact that he's playing a lefty guitar he still has it strung upside down..
    he must have learned on a righty of course and when leftys where more available he just stuck with that stringing method,fuck it ,if its not broke don't fix it...

    It's a mysterious sort of song that inspires musicians of various different styles, including Western style rock... Interesting interpretation.Yes piano is much easier than guitar because the notes are all nicely laid out and easy to play. Just touch them. But with guitar you have to begin by tuning the instrument and then you have actually make the notes and they are not all laid out for you in a nice order. And you are doing two very different movements with each hand. There is far more "craft" involved with guitar playing. But I love keyboards, too.

  • @garywood9525

    The piano is merely a chromatic instrument with 8 octaves . White keys are always the Key of C .
    The guitar can make sounds and the string can bend the notes .
    Pianos can only play whats on the sheet music or what someone creates from the keys being hit .
    A tuned piano does give a refernece point for a note in your head to find it. Remember the scale starts as A and goes BCDEFG the A again where the 440 frequency A become 880 at the higher octave or 220 going down to the lower A.
    i just never had the fingers or wrist movement to play outside the 3 middle octaves .
