  • Here is just a small portion of the very large and unique toy soldier collection of my father the late Ivor T. Hugh. I made this video just two months before my dad "made the transition to a wonderful and better world" as he put it. It was a wonderful week we spent together. As I was photographing the various figures and setting them against different coloured backdrops, I'd have a question about how best to show them, and he'd look at it, and make a suggestion or two: "I think that Grenadier would look better on the left", or "let's put that Ninth Lancer a bit more front and center". His knowledge of all the figures, and the history behind them, was encyclopedic.
I can think of no better way to honor him than with music and these photos of the Britains figures he loved so much.
This video only touches on some of the highlights; there are over two thousand pieces of Britains Military, Farm and Zoo figures. It was his wish to sell them, in three parts (Farm, Zoo, Military) or in its entirety.
If you would like more details about the collection or would like to make an appointment to view it in person, please contact me, Grayson Hugh, at: grayson@graysonhugh.net Or contact my stepbrother Wade Bobbitt at: tvshader@aol.com
    Thanks and enjoy the video!
    Grayson Hugh

Beautiful. Seeing these toys brings back memories of childhood. Never had as exquisite as these, but memories of innocence, when all you did was study and play.
The fellow who bought this collection is one lucky fellow

Missing my sweet Poppa Ivor - "Ivo". What memories this brings up.. I was fortunate enough to grow up surrounded by these beauties. I loved the farm animals, the horses, all of it really. Thanks Poppa. Always, Your Stacey

I know, Stace. I had such fun making this video with dad. It was a wonderful time we shared together that I will never forget. I'd get all his boxes out, one by one, and set up the soldiers against different colored sheets of colored paper bought at Ocean State Job Lot, just down the street from their Thistle Pond house in Bloomfield. Every time I watch it I cry and so does Polly. We were so lucky to have him in our lives.

A man who loved toy soldiers like that can only be a good and a kind person.

You have "hit the nail on the head" with that observation, Jeb. For indeed, people have said about my dad that "he always had a smile and cheerful word for everyone, and never uttered a hateful word about anyone".

Wow! What an amazing collection. Whatever made your father start collecting this memorabilia? I hope someone buys the entire collection and takes good care of it like your Dad did.

Thank you Sue. His sister gave him a Britains Farm Waggon figure when he was four in London, and he began a lifelong love of Britains every since!

Remembering Ivor on St. David's Day. Ivor's segments with Peter Durham on the morning show on WJMJ were absolutely magical, radio doesn't get any better than that.
