Great tribute to a great archery pioneer
My first archery deer kill was with
a Bear Kodiak Magnum recurve, cedar arrows and a Bear razorhead.
Still can see the flight of the arrow in the drizzling October rain.

Mr. Bear used to buy his Lincoln automobiles from the Sesi dealership in Ypsilanti, as did my dad. One time Dad returned from there with a monograph of Fred's recount of a recent Polar Bear hunt in which Mr. Bear told about putting an arrow into a PB, which charged him and his rifle-carrying back-up. As they reversed from the rapidly advancing bear, first the rifleman, then Fred, after him, fell several feet into a crevice in the ice, with Mr. Bear landing on top of the other man. The bear was still advancing, but the gun couldn't be used, as Fred was on top of it! The bear made it to the crevice, and died with its paw hanging about a foot from his face. Before they had backed into the ice, the man wanted to use his rifle, but Fred forbade him, because he was confident of his shot placement. If shot by a rifle, then he ethically couldn't claim the kill as his own.
For the record, I believe that the signed account was returned by my dad to Mr. Sinkule, who owned Sesi, and had loaned it to him.

That might hold alot of truth. Fred lost his first polar bear it dived on him and was gone. So i say you're right on and that was his second attempt.

Great tribute about Fred Bear! I wish Activision should make another Cabela's game called "Legend of Fred Bear", as a tribute about that awesome outdoorsman.

My family owned grouse haven after he had passed. There property is on the south west corner of the rifle river recreation area. They sold it but it was a very nice peace of property.
