    Glad someone captured an overview of our work! No matter how good or how bad people may think of it, it shows the "CREW" going through the motions! I can show my family so they can see what it looks like out there in our world. It's hard to capture everything in a video. So hats off to the guy who took the time and efforts to get'er done and make the video and make it available to us. Much appreciated! Millwrights gettin it done!

    Best video yet! I ran overhauls for 20 years and NOBODY had any idea of what I did for a living. I did mostly 5 to 20 MW units, hydrogen cooled generators, alignments, controls, oil flushes, etc. We took old steam turbine generators and overhauled them and installed them in new cogen plants in the 80's. I also did marine SSTG sets, main engines, reduction gears, etc., on Navy ships, container ships, bulk carriers and tankers. What I miss the most is the crews. Those were good days when after a 16 hour day I would end up in the motel room so tired that I didn't know if I should eat first, sleep first, or go to the bathroom first. I wish there was a way I could download my experience onto a chip and download it into someone young and full of energy. Thank you for the great video.

      I was an ACO at a large power plant in NY we had 4 375mw units, I could never really explain my job either. I used to love when they tore the turbine down, all the rigging and what not. Starting a unit after an over haul was definitely an experience, placw was dirty though.

    I worked on the large steam turbines with General Electric in the sixties and severities, Did most of the machining on the large parts . The machines we operated were not like the ones of today. Also the tooling is far more advanced. So I have to say although today's turbines are made faster the machine operators had more thinking to do, and was possible more skilled, no computers, no carbide tools ,

    Turbine is a turbine. This whole dick wagging contest comment section is depressing. I mean, a bigger unit is, in many ways, much easier to work on. I think your insecure.

      I do not know this unit but it looks like an early 1950s installation.

    • @ignatiusdemonseed
      @ignatiusdemonseed 4 роки тому +1

      On second look, this unit may be mid-1940s. Seeing the "GE" logo on the exciter cover at the end of the video helped me with this estimate of age. I estimate the power output of this unit to be between 50 and 60 MW. I operated two 1940s era GE turbine generator sets between 1980 and 1995.

    On purpose?

    • @zlatanklebic1253
      @zlatanklebic1253 8 років тому

      +nndorconnetnz I was wondering the same. At first it appeared as if one of the turbine blades are damaged, but then noticed that the other parallel turbines on the shaft are also missing a blade at the same position as the main turbine... wondering why

    • @kimmer6
      @kimmer6 8 років тому +5

      +Zlatan Klebic
      They are filler slots. You need to install the blades onto the turbine wheel and slide them around, add more, slide them with a pneumatic impact tool. They fit tightly. Once all the blades are in, a short piece without a blade fits in and gets pinned to keep the blades in place. Then the sections of shroud bands are installed and ''riveted'' in place. This is done in a shop where they can trim the shroud bands in a lathe, then dynamically balance the rotor. The shroud bands have end gaps...only a handful of blades are tied together. Its for expansion control and the bands keep blade harmonics under control. Without them, the blades would vibrate and fail causing tremendous damage.

      Gotcha. Now understood. Thank you for describing what that was!

      kimmer6 i still dont really understand...why some parts have big missing slots while other parts of the turbine dont have, aka look normal with complete rotation

      You should try a 1200 Megawatt nuke plant turbine generator. Makes you think you and your bud can take the 100MW apart with a K-Mart socket set.
      My bread and butter was 5 to 25 MW steam turbines and 3-60 MW gas turbine units.
      The last overhaul I did was a 20MW steam unit in a lumber mill. We busted ass around the clock for weeks, solved major problems, worked for days with no overhead crane (they killed the 4160 volt lines to install the new road and drain pipes), did the hot oil flush, got everything running leak free, no troubles, overspeed tested, load tested, etc. Got it done 2 days ahead of schedule. Our thanks: The head operator called our company to complain that the crew got dirty fingerprints on the bathroom wall.
      Stay safe....

    Ja tam myślę, że jak Ruscy nie zniszczą atomówek, a nie zniszczą, to Ukraina zawsze trochę prądu będzie miała, dyspozycja mocy będzie tylko musiała trochę pokombinować jak to przesłać. Że latarnie się nie palą? W Warszawie na Wirażowej przy lotnisku też się nie palą, bo są i nie widać autobusu z przystanku, no nie wiem czy ze względu na samoloty, czy ze względów Platformie znanych, PiS to rządy wariatów, miesięcznice obchodzą, rządy Platformy to kleptokracja, raz na miesiąc muszą coś ukraść.
