I love old westerns. They all have two things in common. One, there will be clouds of dust anytime horses or cattle are running. Two, the horses never get tired even though they are running most of the time. How could I not love these oldies?
It was the 1930s. The depression was on. Japan was eyeing the Pacific islands and Germany was eyeing Poland. We were about to enter world war two. Do you notice there are few fat people in these films. A lot of people weren't eating regular. Also there was no 'fast food' to fatten them up. I'm saying this to those of you watching from the year 2022.
Mark, this is only my tiny opinion, but back in earlier Hollywood days, they CHOSE thin folks for positions in movies. Exactly like they chose “ beautiful…..thin “ ladies to be stewardesses on airplanes. No men, not a pound of extra weight, no eyeglasses, and beauty personified. And look at things in today’s world. Although in today’s world, things have gone overboard, at LEAST everyone didn’t cry themselves to sleep every night , because they didn’t look like Barbie’s walking around. And the men…….well, as far as the airline industry, you and I both have seen THOSE results ! And, thinking about Hollywood, weights are more normal, but the men……well, sadly, just look at them. Just listen to them. However, I completely understand your point, Mark.
The worse singing I have ever heard! I know the movies required singing but this could be cut out and the movie would be a 5+ rating.with the singing I would have to give it a 4. I truly love his early movies but the singing makes me cringe!
Two things you can always predict in these old movies... The good girl is gonna marry the hero. The bad girl (if there is one) is gonna turn good. Good entertainment. Thanks for uploading. And btw, I always rate John Wayne movies and Tim McCoy movies a "10" on IMDB as I think these old westerns get short shrift on the voting.
WE ARE IN AGREEMENT!!! HOWDY FROM SO CALIF...THEY SHOT MANY MOVIES JUST NORTH OF HERE UP 395 HIWAY AND OUT OF LONE PINE A ROSD IT THERE YOU TURN RIGHT ONTO...MOVIE ROAD...60% OF WESTERN MOVIES WERE FILMED UP IN THERE...HUGE ROCKS AND HILLS GALORE...
He didn't. I don't know whose voice it is, bit Wayne is not singing or playing. Note the wide angle, so you can't see his hands, and the voice sounds nothing like Wayne.
john Wayne, always was a GREAT ACTOR, I remenber when I had about 18 Years old and I saw in the Dominican Republic in the " CINE RIALTO " LLEGARON LOS BOINAS VERDES ( THE GREEN BARET ARRIVED" RAFAEL RIVERA (RIVERITA, HAINA- SERIE 93)
HA...BUT THIS WASN'T HIM SINGIN'...JOHN WAYN NEVER SANG...CANT CARRY A TUNE IN A BUCKET...LOL...HEY...THE GUY STOPPING JOHN WAYNE AFTER THE SHOOTING IN TOWN (Begging of movie) IS GEORGE HAYES aka; GABBY HAYES...DID A GOB OF FILMS W/ROY ROGERS!!! I HEARD HIS UNMISTAKABLE VOICE...NO BEARD YET...& NO JEEP NELLE BELLE EITHER...THIS IS 1934...LOL
"GABBY" HAYS...(GEORGE HAYES)...IS THE RIDER STOPPING JOHN WAYNE RIDING AWAY FROM SHOOTIN' THOSE 2 MEN IN TOWN...HA!!! I RECOGNIZED HIS VOICE, BY GOLLY...NO BEARD THEN...HE GREW A BEARD AND STARRED WITH ROY ROGERS...MOVIES...GOTTA LOVE THEM!!!
Of course any John Wayne movies a great movie. But as a man versed in public address systems... One guy with a megaphone? You need about 50 of them to reach most of that crowd of thousands. But mostly, the stock footage used for the crowds in the bleachers, somebody missed the fact that the footage shows PA horns mounted on the structure. Another little known and not too interesting fact... Exactly 9 months after the Roswell cover up, Al Gore was born.
Uncredited rolls by two actors who were lead supporting regulars in these old B westerns of the 30's - Lafe McKee as the Justice of the Peace and the versatile Earl Dwire as the rodeo announcer.
These old movies with these ol songs being sung by john Wayne are a treasure forevermore! Love Polly Ann Young!

Another great JW movie, that old rodeo footage was especially interesting, thanks for posting
I think they are better to watch at .5x speed

No saddle-bags, no canteen, no bed roll, . . . He travels light.
This cowboy is apparently a fast talker; he's a stranger to her one day and getting married to her the next day. 😂
It's was all about budget sadly most western movies were low budget therefore had to save money anywhere they could

Love these old movies low budget as they were. My question is that really John Wayne singing or a voice over.

I don't think becoming a singing cowboy was in his future. Maybe he was just too tall in the saddle.

Ah! Roswell. It has been said that transistors were the result of reverse engineered from technology at that base.

00:04:55 Gotta raise a beer and salute the horseback rider and say thanks for the thrill.
Standing I'm the water
