    Just got to hang out with David Crane for about an hour last weekend at Classic Game Fest in Austin. Had him sign my CIB Pitfall and my copy of Circus Convoy. The Kitchens were there, too, and I got to briefly meet Nolan Bushnell, too (he signed my childhood 2600). I have met my Atari quota for the year. ;)

    Games like these really shine when you're playing them against others and seeing who gets the highest score in that particular session. Playing alone to try topping your personal best score is a lot less fun.

    Really liked playing this when I was little. Getting together and playing against each other for the best scores. Winners got candy or sometimes the $0.25 everyone playing put in the pot. Great times and memories

    Loved this game as a kid. The pole vault was my fav.

    Good video! And review of this game! I remember playing this game on the Atari 2600. Your right about the using the joystick, to play this game, rough on your hands! I also had it for the Atari 8-bit computer too!

    Oh yeah. Just in time for the Olympics. Happy Atari Day! I got all three of those “Medal” Patch Scores. Bronze, Silver and Gold. Also, I didn’t know about the Activision Decathlon Game Glove.

      Also, it's the last few days of his high score challenge on Discord for Track and Field, a similar but later 2600 game.

    Top 10 VCS games, still fun to play today

    Interesting that the Trakball controller works well. I guess you just roll it back and forth?
    For events not involving the fire button to throw or jump, I just used paddles and hit the fire button on each paddle which corresponds to left and right on the joystick (fun to try that on Combat too with the planes). I haven't made a score high enough to qualify for an "emblem" (or "patch" as people call it today). This is one I picked up on the cheap at the thrift store years ago.

    I played this game a LOT back in the day. It was great fun until Epyx released Summer Games and Winter Games for the C64. Then suddenly I didn't want to run the 1500m any more 😆
    The best joystick for this game was the Pointmaster.

    I really enjoyed that game a lot.
    The graphics blew us away and me and my buddies played it for hours.
    We didn't need any sound effects because we were cheering like crazy.
    Remember my mom entered my room one day, asking if we guys are OK. 😂
    "Yes mom, thanks. My hands are numb, my fingers are bleeding, my back hurts but we're doing great"
    Good old days... 👍🏻

    Remember we had no options back in the day. If you had this game you played the hell out of it

    Decathlon is one of those games best enjoyed as multiplayer with friends. I think it supports up to 4 players.

      Sounds a little like Steeplechase (1981). But imagine if they did that one with multiple equestrian events!

    The physical discomfort was kind of the point back then. The ability to work through the pain was part of the experience.
    We were young and dumb...

    My friends and I played the heck out of this as kids; wore out a bunch of controllers. We had this game near launch, so it has the pole vault bug--pretty funny.

    Nice pin. I, like many others played this countless times ( and broke a couple joysticks).

    I had this back in the day and me and the neighborhood kids had tournaments going on all the time. We never broke any controllers, but we did get blisters on our thumbs and the inside of our index fingers. I discovered the pole vault bug by accident so I must have had a first run copy of the game. My friends and I had a blast abusing that bug, LOL. If I had the Bruce Jenner cardboard display, I would probably piss on it.

    It may not be worth playing today but I'll tell you it was certainly worth playing for days when it came out

    Forgive me ,but why does the running sound at the end sound like a very successful date ???.

    Can you review Super Pro Decathlon on the intellivision next?

    I appriciate that this game was well made. I'm just not at all interested. Even if it wasn't physically exhausting to play, this is the kind of game that destroys controllers, much like Mario Party would on N64 years later.

    Why was the decathlon glove left-handed and why was Bruce Jenner pressing the joystick button with his right hand?

    • @thenosweargamer1449
      @thenosweargamer1449  6 місяців тому

      The glove could be ordered for either hand. I'm guessing Bruce either didn't know how to how to hold a joystick at that time, maybe even never played a video game before, or the photographer chose the pose because it looked cool to them.

    • @TheLadsBandLive

      @@thenosweargamer1449 Missed that part about ordering either hand. I think I was mesmerized by the amazing game glove artwork on the order form. Seriously!

    It kind of looks like the guy is wearing a skirt with bare legs...that's why the legs don't look quite right with the upper body.

    • @PG-gs5vb
      @PG-gs5vb 6 місяців тому

      I think it's the apparent stiffness of the body caused by the fact that it does not move up and down while running.
