- We loved our visit to Schiermonnikoog, one of the Dutch Frisian Islands that sit off the country's west coast. We took our rental bikes (E-BIKES) all over the island to see what sites we could. In this video we visit the vast beaches, meandering bikes paths and the very interesting "Bunker Museum" that was originally a World War 2 era German lookout bunker.
Thanks for joining us in Schiermonnikoog, if you haven't seen part one, you can check it out here:

✼ ABOUT US ✼
We are Nate and Katrina, two American expats living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and traveling as much as we can to see what there is to see!
We balance a busy career and grad school while we explore Europe and beyond. We would love to visit every country in Europe while we live here, and definitely keep a list of our global “must visit” destinations.
We probably won’t look or sound like many other travel vlogs out there! We really want to give you a true view of us and how we travel and explore the world. Lots of food, definitely some jokes, and probably some swearing…. Hope you enjoy taking these trips with us!
Getting pretty dutch allready .... complaining about the weather ....hot or cold lol😊
So true.... 😂
At low tide, you can walk from the mainland to the islands. It's called "wadlopen". I did it once, a long time ago, from Pieterburen to Schiermonnikoog. It was tough, but fun. Most interesting moment was when we had to wait in the middle of the Waddenzee for the ferry to pass by. You stand knee deep in the water and the ferry is passing just a few meters away.
That sounds really cool!
One of the biggest war museums of the Netherlands is in Overloon. Very big tanks, cars and other vessels to see as well as a lot of information about the war.
Hi, Nice Island. Been there many many times. My mother was born there. I stayed in Pathmos when it was my grandparents farmhouse as a kid.
hope you feel a bit better next time nice flog keep it up😉😊
Thanks! We appreciate the kind words!
One thing you did not mention: nudity is allowed on the whole island (except in the towncentre). So scissors are not necessary.
We must go back!!!! 🤪
Thanks for checking out the vid!
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld It isn't. There is a large nude beach though; basically the entire western side of the island. If you go left where you entered the beach, everything from there is nude beach. And there's another one on the far eastern side of the island. There are signs somewhere that indicate it. It's not like some nude beaches where everyone is naked. It's just that it's okay there.
E-bikes ROCK
Makes our used €150 “normal” bikes at home feel soooo sloooow….. 🫠
Tip: the combination /ie/ in Dutch always has the sound in English of eg "pier", "relief", "brief". So "Schier-" rhymes with "pier".
In you're last video both of you mentioned that Dutch people joked about both of you trying to speak Dutch those people should be ashamed of themselves i myself am Dutch and i would never shame a foreigner for trying to speak Dutch i would help them and not shame them.
My favorite Dutch island is Ameland i have been there plenty of times myself.
Other than that a great video keep up the great work Nate and Katrina👍
En nog een prettige dag toegewenst😊
Thanks. 99% of the people we meet are happy we try… 🙃
I think Ameland is our next island to visit in The Netherlands!
If you want to see something impressive about the war: go to Margraten in the south, where they military semetry is with thousands of soldiers graves
The pronunciation did get better over time. Not completely there yet ;o).
Definitely room for improvement! Thanks for watching the video!
Sorry, the soft icecream machine is broken.
Not much WW2 fighting going on on the island. Biggest tension occurred towards the end of the war, when escaped SS soldiers fled to the island, and received a hostile welcome from the Germans who had been stationed there for years and had become part of ordinary local life.
You pronounce Schier-monnik-oog, just as my wife would pronounce it.
Your wife must speak PERFECT Dutch. 👌🏻
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld Just 1 word: “echtgenoot” 😀
