    Really enjoyed your Tigermoth vids! I’m really close to purchasing, I think, but heard someone complain that only 1 person can really sit at table and be comfortable. Do you agree with that? I’ve watched lots of vids and looks like 2 people would just have to sit pretty close. Do you have an issue with the height?
    (only thing that took my focus off the camper were those biscuits in the Dutch oven!!!)

      Good question! When I’m camping with the family, and we’re using the Tigermoth as a basecamp, the inside is always in bed mode. The reason is that we are always outside doing stuff during the day, and when we get back, the most important thing is a cozy place to sleep. It’s true that there are stormy days when we’re trapped inside, but even then, it’s more convenient to hang out laying down compared to sitting at a table. That being said, it’s nice to have a table when I’m camping alone because I prefer to sleep in the rooftop tent and use the downstairs as an office. So to your question, I think it’s true that the table is better for one, but it’s possible for two people to chill out and have lunch or something like that, but not the best as an all day hang out.

    You're more creative than I am and I'm a beginner woodworker. I had the same issue even with the car: so I grabbed 4 construction workers to add the tent to the top of the car. And even tightening the screws I needed a strong hand to get it to 3Nm witht he Yakima towers. Insane.

      You’re right. Rooftop tents are a real pain to install. Very nice to have lots of friends who like to help. 👏🏽🏆✨

    I use my ATV winch to suck it up to the rafters in garage . I also made a large carpeted furniture dolly with locking castors to pull it around with rope.

    I picked up one of these up a couple of years ago. I don’t think I will ever part with it. I tossed the idea around about putting a rooftop tent of it until I saw that I could attach an annex room to the awning on the back. Tepui awnings are great and they have an annex room with a floor that zips in. Once it is all together it seams to be military grade in its quality. It seals the weather out great and I put a set of bunk bed style cots out there and it offers a lot of privacy at crowded campgrounds. The ARB 3 side wall set also works with the Tepui awning all though they aren’t a perfect fit. Thanks for sharing the video. I wish more people who owned these units would make videos!

      I like the idea of the annex. Having a place for dressing and an extra sleeping spot adds a lot of function. Thanks for your comment!

      Any time man. They make awning brackets that fit fight into the Thule mounting tracks that are installed onto the roof. No drilling or any mods required. Everything is bolt on.

      Do you have a link to the annex tent you use with the existing awning? We have two kids and using that with two bunks sounds amazing. Thanks!

    Thanks for sharing. We're strongly considering one of these, for the versatility & adaptability. As David mentioned, there aren't enough videos of this particular unit out there. Camp on!

    Great video! Any problems with leaks when it rains? I've heard the other Taxa trailers can have leaks

    • @Folktopia
      @Folktopia  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, Raul! No leaks on the Tigermoth. The only area to look out for is on the roof where the fan is installed. It has two positions: open and closed. Even in the open position we haven’t had any leaks, but I make sure it’s closed when it’s parked outside.

    Great video. How is the Subaru working out as your tow vehicle for the Tiger Moth?

    • @Folktopia
      @Folktopia  3 роки тому

      The Subaru is a good vehicle for towing this type of trailer. We got about 15 mpg towing on the interstate. It pulled well up in the mountains. It has very good seats and does well as a daily driver. I’d like to have a 4runner or a Wrangler, but the Subaru is more practical, economical, and comfortable (but doesn’t have much personality and the infotainment system isn’t the best)

    Do you get to choose which roof top tent goes on top?

    • @Folktopia
      @Folktopia  Рік тому +1

      We got a choice between Tepui and Yakima. We purchased through Erik’s Bike Shop, I imagine they do testing based on weight and size and specifications from Taxa.

    What is the weight of the whole trailer? Also tongue weight?I have a Outback with a 2.5L engine it can tow up to 2500lb

    • @Folktopia
      @Folktopia  2 роки тому

      Hi Sam. My trailer is 1,492 pounds. I can outfit it with 508 lbs of cargo. Each trailer will vary based on how it has been optioned. I've never had it weighed with a scale, but I'd guess that when we go camping that we carry about 300 lbs of cargo (water, food, gear). That would make the towing weight around 1,800 lbs. Keep in mind the number of passengers and weight in the Outback when figuring. About the tongue weight. The sticker says 600lbs, but it’s less due to the max cargo on my specific trailer being 508lbs total.

    The roof is rated for 200 lbs. Tent weighs 116 lbs. I am confused about who can sleep up there?

    • @Folktopia
      @Folktopia  3 роки тому

      200 lbs is the dynamic load (the load subject to all forces while driving). The static capacity of the roof rack is higher. Two folks in the tent is no problem. Also, keep in mind that the tent ladder shares some of the load.

    I’m not sure that the title of this video is what the video is about. It was mostly about taking the rooftop tent off! Lol

    Really considering buying one of these trailers. What has been your experience with the fit and finish of the TigerMoth? How did it hold up in the rain leak wise?

    • @Folktopia
      @Folktopia  3 роки тому

      Very good. No leaks. Quality materials. Components are all holding up after two years. The plywood smells expensive, if that makes sense.
