Can Ethiopia Survive Their LAST Stand? - HOI4

- Today in Ethiopia, it's time to see just how far we can pushed. How deep into the frontier Italy can get, how much can be given away. Whilst still being able to pull out a total victory over the invaders in the end, can it be done?
Along the way encirclements shall be made and crushed for both sides, intense defensive strategies will formed and put into action, and when the time is right. We will fall back and begin our last stand, but also plan our inevitable return to victory...

When I finished filming this I thought it was a lot longer than it actually was, the main body of the recording was only 76 minutes long. But when you consider that playing Ethiopia usually requires going down to speed four for a significant period of time. I guess it makes sense.
How many Ethiopia achivements do you reckon you can achive WITHOUT BBA?
I managed to win the war without the "30 minutes of hell" chese and get the achivement but it was hard
I think the scavenging effect only improves already existing scavenging effects, so you go from 3% from the leader trait to 4.2%.
Yeah that's what I heard too.
Gonna be a bit of an contrarian, but i like Aussa spawning divisions when it gets annexed by Italy, before the change, the event annex which is supposed to be a positive thing for Italy was mostly a good thing for Ethiopia as you got excellent defensive terrain from it, a free military factory and Italy had to occupy and push from 2 desert tiles, one of the worst terrains in the game to be in.
The problem with that though is that this change fails the "Does it make the game more fun?" test. A good Italy player could already win without those extra units, just use your air and you'll be okay. Pin Ethiopia's divisions if you must.
And for Ethiopia all it does is make it a worse experience, they already had to deal with the lend-lease nerf, the constant threat of reinforce memes and now this. I think one extra mil and a good tile to defend is fine, gameplay balance wise.
@@BubblesZest Lets be honest, doing a "is this change fun" test for most things is shit, nerfs are almost never fun but still they happen often, you can find a good amount of people that cry about how many additions to the game are too confusing or hard and thus, not fun.
Ethiopia is piss easy to win as if your anything above a beginner, this change does nothing to that, also the change is not targeted towards Italy players, they never had a problem with the war but to address how an event annexing a country that is meant to be a negative to Ethiopia, open a surprise front For Italy to use and let the try and get a foothold in the inner parts of Ethiopia was really just a free factory delivery to the Ethiopian player.
"This change does nothing to that" Except, you know. Taking away 33% of Ethiopia's mils, who also starts in a massive deficit which only grows thanks lack of air.
The way it was before both Italy and Ethiopia _could_ take advantage of the annexation if either was quick enough, which was fair. Sure maybe made the wording of one event slightly inaccurate, but that's nothing new for this game.
And yeah, the change is clearly targeted for the ai as I said. It's just not the right solution, but it's the one Paradox went for as it was the quickest they could find.
@@BubblesZest Before it was always just a good thing for Ethiopia, as their troops were always closer to the new free defensive tile that´s undefended, i don´t think Italy could have even gotten to it outside of them already pushing next to it.
For the mills, sure it slows you down, but at the same time your only making basic guns and each of the paths has a "tons of free guns" focus except for annachist and fascist, but one flips so it dosen´t matter and anarchists is meant to be the hardest one to win, also it has the easiest time getting rid of "conservative high command" so it balances out somewhat.
Ethiopian main strategy remains the same, you still hold the same lines and tiles, you just have to adjust your hold on tile to the two behind it, which funny enough is better as Italy´s supply goes even worse, pushing them back just gets harder.
After 800 hrs I got the relevant DLC and played as Ethiopia, I realised that with a combination of waiting and pinning down certain enemies on the south, you can actually cap the ports and encircle their troops within (if I remember correctly) 12 days, which prevents Italy's incoming reinforcements from landing.

Great work. Can you make something about Ethiopia exile paths comparison?
I used to load up a game as Ethiopia every so often, because the war was kinda fun to play as a short campaign. The two units in Aussa have actually stopped me doing that, as it makes reinforce memes so much more frequent as you'll mostly need to juggle forces more frequently.
I've seen the Carlists in Spain rise up a couple of times on historical, and at least one early war Italian naval invasion of Britain too. Neither of these happened much less frequently than an Ethiopia AI win, although if it was only the last few patches, I may have missed a sudden uptick.
I have found pushing in the south is easier than in the north. Try micro a blitz to surround a port (don't take) in the south and then let Italy lose all its divisions by constantly destroying the reinforcements it sends to the port. Soon enough Italy will have no army left and taking the north will be easy.
streamable.com/7wnvyx Cut because it ruined the flow of the scenes around it.
I have tried doing this with Mogadishu port, surrounded by 7 irregular divs
Yeah that turned out to be just WW1 lmao, cant even destroy the divs in the port
Nice background music!
Amazing content!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude I just did this too, too funny. Couldn’t quite push them out until WT was high enough to get some LL. They never walked out of Aussa so I was at a bit of a disadvantage compared to yours. Fun stuff
I think if you have a bog standard frontline they don't ever walk out but they usually but not always walk out when you surround them with fallback lines
I survivade as finland now a want to try as ethiopia
It’s much easier as Ethiopia
Italy getting the 2 troops ruined ethoipa for me
Idk when it happened but before Italy would never call in germany to the war with ethiopia but if you play the civil war out long enough to have the colonies rise up Italy calls in the whole axis
is it possible to do something like this with Poland and its "Prepare for the Inevitable" branch? I want to do it with Karl Albrecht as leader without capitulating
Doesn't scavenging only work if you're attacking?
Considering I got equipment when I switched to a scavenger, no. It works both ways.
Still kinda annoying that I didn't get a single piece of equipment until I switched over to them, but that's hoi4.
Without lend lease and "free" mill in Aussa - pretty good focus anyway.
@@BubblesZest I think it’s most effective in encirclements and attacking still
@@x-uca7465 same effectiveness for all but due to working off how much equipment the enemy lost, its most effective when closing encirclement due to the enemy losing all their equipment, also as the equipment goes first into your divisions and after that your stockpile, defending or attacking your not gonna notice it most of the time due to your divisions using most or all of the equipment they capture.
@@Thedefenses Pretty much what I was arguing but yeah 😂
So scavenging has a small default value? I thought that it only worked with maintenance companies.
Scavenging work with maintenance or/and the scavenger trait for generals, with out either there is no capture rate to my knowledge.
@@Thedefenses Scavenging works without maintenance or the scavanger trait, check the battle log and go to equipment, I captured 50 guns
whats wrong with them putting 2 units on the capital?
When did the lend lease get nerfed? You cant improve opinion with anyone now anymore and get free stuff? :(
You can improve but lend lease has a higher world tension limit than before, so you can´t get any early into a game.
@@Thedefenses ah ok thx
Lend-lease nerf is way worse than 2 divs on Aussa. You really stuck at the game with gun deficit and no ones going to help you until Germany invades Poland 😤
I mean there is gun purchases in the LoN tree and the free 10k in the Soviet tree, and you could just rush scavenging tactics. It ain't great sure, but it ain't the end of the world.
@@BubblesZest Considering that any path gives you guns at some point, yeah that makes sense. Any recommendation for path thats fun post war? Like I dont really like to just exit the game after the white peace.
