- I went over to Leamington Spa to see another UA-camr who I have meet before.
Colin had come down from Scotland via Essex so it was only right I went and spend a few hours with him and his mates from different parts of the country at this very nice ex GW station.
If you get a chance check his channel and video as he was there for over six hours so he filmed a lot of good stuff. Trackside UK ( Colin Garwood )
Fabulous Mike. My earliest memory in life is my dad taking me to Leamington Spa from Coventry by train. We were pulled by a steam locomotive which were at the very end of their lives (1966). Fast-forward many years and I worked as a coalman and would occasionally load up at the coal-yard that stood next to the stunning old signal box. One day, while waiting our turn to get into the yard I chanced my luck and went up to the box, and fortunately the signalman allowed me in to have a look around. What a place!
Fast-forward a few more years and I began my career as a freight guard at LMS. In those days wagons and loco's were still stored in the yard at the north-end of the station, with access via a ground-frame that needed release to get into it. Regular turns included working the bubble-car on the Stratford branch, and if you had the early turn on the right day the driver would stop outside Bearley West Jcn Signal Box while you dropped off the filled water containers as it had no running water!
Class 150's were just starting to make their presence but I loved working those heritage sets. How today's passengers would cope with doors that needed opening by the passengers themselves lord only knows.
What a fantastic account of your early years from this area Julian.
My early thoughts from this area was when I was about eleven catching a 1st generation DMU to Leamington Spa from Coventry, then getting a Midland Red bus outside the station to the Gaydon Air show which I did a few times when it was a V bomber station.
I think the line from Kenilworth to Berkswell was still being used then.

Remember the water buckets coming on occasion for filling up at Leamington. There was of course the occasional cry for a pilot an when the branch went down. Many happy days 🤔 🤓

Great video 😎👍🏽 Brilliant… those Chiltern 68’s 💨💨🙂👍🏽I always used to love that extremely tall signal at the North junction where the lines divide to Warwick and Coventry, although the new replacement LED one in this video seems a little shorter? 🤔

I was sat with a broken down motorbike on the Fosse Way where this line crossed it near Southam a few years back, waiting for the RAC. I couldn't believe how busy the line was, it seemed like an endless procession of freight interspersed with Chilterns and Cross Country passenger trains. Great video as usual.
Oh sorry to hear you had problems with your bike Nigel, but with the trains passing it kept your mind occupied while waiting for help.

This is my local station and I have been a subscriber to your channel for a while now it would've been nice to say hello. LMS is a great station with a great variation of traffic, another great video also.

Mate I think you are right we did meet there all them years ago when we were filming some class 37s.
Fantastic coverage of the workings we saw together Mike, especially 66781 being crossed by the Colas 70, whichas you know i got bowled for on the wrong platform lol. Was a very nice day out in the sunshine and will have to make it an annual event. Thanks for sharing Mike, and also thank you for promoting my channel as well

Some brilliant freight in this one, that crossover with 66781 and the Colas 70 was ace. Always good to see the 68s still hauling proper trains for Chiltern
Yes that crossover was very tight, I thought I could get blocked but it turned out ok.
I do agree with you about Chiltern still using proper trains.

A, wonderful station Mike, so bright and cheerful, the tubs of flowers are amazing, i was last there back in August Bank Holiday 2018 and i too caught Colas Darth on enginners, think it was 70084.Great shots there inc two more nice Redsheds! A wonderful station it is Nick, its easy for me to get there but I bet I only go no more than twice a year.
Indeed it was great to meet up with Colin again which was a lot easier than going to Scotland.
